This is patently ridiculous! Saying “So help me God” doesn’t even come close to being unconstitutional. Mikey Weinstein, president of Military Religious Freedom Foundation, is the one pushing for the change and says it violates the religious test portion of the Constitution. How so? In this day and age ‘God’ can mean anything to anybody…at least that’s what our culture has been telling us for years. But even more so it’s a proclamation, not a religious test. And if people don’t want to say it then they don’t have to say it, nor do they have to join our volunteer military.

This is nothing more than militant atheism trying to remove God from the public square and trying to twist the Constitution in knots to make it mean what they want it to mean. Plus, this Weinstein joker is a real, pardon the expression, jackass. If you don’t believe me just watch his interview on Megyn Kelly’s show. She was nothing but classy and he was a jerk from beginning to the end.

FOX NEWS – The Air Force Academy is considering dropping the phrase “so help me God’ from its honor oath after the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) filed a complaint.

The Academy’s Honor Review Committee met Wednesday to review the oath in response to the MRFF complaint, said Public Affairs Director Maj. Brus Vidal.

“They considered a range of options and some of those options will be presented to Academy leaders and, ultimately, the Academy Superintendent for a decision,” he said.

The current version of the Academy’s oath reads: “We will not lie, steal or cheat nor tolerate among us anyone who does. Furthermore, I resolve to do my duty and live honorably, so help me God.”

Last week, the Colorado Springs Independent newspaper published a photograph of a poster at the academy which included the oath. The newspaper then forwarded the photo to MRFF President Mikey Weinstein.

Weinstein, a frequent critic of Christianity in the armed forces, wrote a letter to Academy Superintendent Lt. Gen. Michelle Johnson. Weinstein said she responded 68 minutes later.

“The Prep School poster has been taken down,” she wrote in an email reply posted by the Independent. “We are assessing the situation and have many mission elements, to include Prep School leadership, the Honor Review Committee and other entities on base, working to put together a way ahead that is respectful to all perspectives.”

While the poster has been removed, the phrase “so help me God” remains as part of the oath.

Vidal told the Air Force Times they could either make no change, make the God part optional or strike the entire oath.

“We value an inclusive environment that promotes dignity and respect for all,” Vidal told the newspaper.

    Not to minimize the cultural importance of this subject, but I believe it’s a tactic to make conservatives expend energy in multiple side issues, so they have less energy and attention to devote to big battles, like Obamacare and growth of government.

        Militarily, that isn’t the case. An army with limited resources has to pick the battles where it can do the most damage to the enemy. George Washington wanted to fight the British in New York, but was persuaded to instead fight them in Yorktown, and effectively won the war. That wouldn’t have happened if he’d tried to fight them on all fronts.

        I’m not saying that this isn’t a serious attack on our rights, but rather that I think it can be repelled by civil disobedience. I’d be sorry to think that we Christians don’t have strength enough to adhere to Christian language in spite of atheist persecution.

          I personally think that our military is now compromised. The progressive horde has infiltrated it and they are damaging its traditions a piece at a time. They will eventually make it so toxic that god fearing, gun loving, red blooded, Americans will no longer want to sign up. If that happens, kiss the USA and our constitution goodbye.

        Cut the size of government, and government has fewer resources to attack us on so many fronts. I picture it as a battle against a hydra: you don’t win by cutting off hundreds of heads–you win by driving a spear through its heart.

        In my opinion, the Tea party’s recent lawsuit against the IRS is more to the point. That’s strking at the hydra’s heart.

          Gosh I wasn’t aware our intellectual resources were so scarce. Cutting the size of government is sure working out pretty good now isn’t it. Meanwhile while they are tackling that size of government thing… on every other front America is being attacked and cancer is setting in.

          I prefer this wise adage from Bill Whittle on how to deal with the left Keep cutting the grass… you may not like it, but you gotta keep doing it. Others might use the adage that there’s no reason you can’t walk and chew gum at the same time..

    So who “owns” the word “God?” Christians, Jews, Muslims? The word “God” is not exclusively owned by any religion. So what’s to offend?. One is pledging with that oath to the God one believes in.

    Who are these people who come up with these PC controversies? God is a problem. Christmas is a problem. Indian names for sports teams are a problem. Are they looking for attention? Maybe that is what “Mikey” is doing.

    I think it was Zo that said that the first amendment isn’t keeping Religion out of Government, it is keeping Government out of Religion. That said, I’m glad that if you don’t believe in God you don’t have to say that line. Also agree with ApplePie. Don’t get distracted with things like this. No freedom is technically being taken away here unlike other political issues of the day.

Have you ever thought what would happen if the ‘Spirit of God’ were to be taken away from this world and Satan was given full control of the thoughs and actions of the ‘unsaved’?

        It WILL HAPPEN and the ‘Spirit of Prophecy’ tells us that it will be quite soon. All the signs are pointing to ‘the time of trouble’ that will soon burst upon the whole world.

        WE are the generation that will be living upon the earth when God sends his Son to gather His children to Himself…. The Second Coming of Jesus is soon. My prayer is that all will study and pray for forgiveness and deliverance of their sins. They HAVE TO BE COVERED by the blood of the Lamb!

          I have to say I understand M_J_S’s attitude though. I forget what warrior it was who said, “Any man who has any power of joy in battle knows what it is like when the wolf rises in the heart.”

          Enemies provoke that reaction. Especially vile and contemptible enemies such as America faces from within,

          Furthermore, just a little of my own opinion here, as Israel is the declared homeland of Jews, America is the declared homeland of Christians. If “Stand Your Ground” is right for Americans, it’s right for America too.

          For those who are left behind after the Rapture, there’s something else to contemplate: when the Rapture occurs, those who are left will know for certain that Christians were right: the God of the Bible is real. If they then choose to die without first becoming believers in Jesus, they have lost everything, forever. So to those who remain after the Rapture, I recommend you take care of that matter FIRST. Dying in a war against evil is not what gets you into Heaven.

            I have no problem standing up for the rights of my Christian brothers and sisters. This country was founded on RELIGIOUS LIBERTY and when we lose those rights (and we will soon), we are in deep trouble.

            We’re in deep trouble now, but it’s only going to get worse. We have people governing us that are from the ‘den of Satan’… they do not believe in Christ, and they have no qualms about killing Christians, after all, some of the worlds population has to be elimminated to be able to sustain THEM after they have taken complete control of EVERYTHING man does. It’s all about POWER and CONTROL.

            I agree with M_J_S. There is a time for Christians to stand up and fight… (maybe not fight literaly as in to take up arms) but in the strength of Christ! we are to carry on with the ‘great commission’ of carrying the gospel to the world. Speak up, YES — back down, only at the risk of your salvation!

            As concerning the ‘secret rapture’ I am not convinced, and do not believe that is what Scripture teaches. There will be a rapture of those that are saved (both the righteous dead and the righteous living), but I do not believe that it will be ‘secret’.

            As I read through 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17, I see that Christ will return “with a shout”, “with the trumpht of God”. [I don’t believe that Jesus will come SNEEKING IN and WHISPERING, I’m here to take you home. He came ONCE as a baby and the world did not know Him. When He comes the second time, EVERYONE WILL KNOW that it is the King of KIngs coming to get HIS people.]

            Matthew 24:31 says that “God will send His angels with a GREAT SOUND OF THE TRUMPET, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.” [This tells me that the Second Coming of Christ will not be a secret.]

            “But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars of heaven will fall, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. And then He will send His angels, and gather together His elect from the four winds, from the farthest part of earth to the farthest part of heaven.” (Mark 13:24-27) [Again, this doesn’t sound like it it going to be a secret event.]

            “I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was A GREAT EARTHQUAKE; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. And the stars of heaven FELL to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. Then the SKY RECEDED AS A SCROLL when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was MOVED OUT OF ITS PLACE. And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, HID THEMSELVES in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and HIDE US from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of His wrath has come, and WHO IS ABLE TO STAND?” (Revelation 6:12-17) [It sounds to me that at the Second Coming of Jesus, the whole will be paying attention. Nothing secret here.]

            I have a lot of information on this subject if you are interested in learning more about the ‘rapture vs secret rapture’. There is a major difference and if you are looking for the ‘secret rapture’ to take place, you are being mislead and deceived by your preacher. When Christ comes the second time (Second Coming), IT IS ALL OVER!

            Those who believe in the ‘secret rapture’ but have neglected to accept Jesus, thinking that they will have 7 more years to be saved, will BE LOST. There will be no additional 7 years after Christ comes for those on earth. They will all be dead, waiting for the ‘Great White Throne Judgment’ (Revelation 20:11-15)

            And he said to me, “Do not seal the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is at hand. He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; he who is righteous, let him be righteous still; he who is holy, let him be holy still.”

            “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”

            Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. (Revelation 22:10-14)

            You may not agree with this position (probably don’t) but it is ‘BIBLICAL’. You cannot take everything your preacher says as ‘the gospel’. If it doesn’t line up with the Bible, we are to disregard it… “To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” (Isaiah 8:20)

              Thanks, sno warrior. I’ve never heard of a secret rapture. I do read the Bible, have read it through seven times word for word, and I agree, it’s not wise to accept everything that comes from any pulpit. I agree, the Bible is the final authority for believers.

              I appreciate your offer of information on the subject, but at my age (sixth decade plus) I’ve pretty much decided what I believe. We both have the only “pass/fail” answer right: salvation is by faith alone in Christ alone – and I’m satisfied to wait until I get to Heaven to straighten out any points I may be wrong on. I do appreciate your willingness to discuss it, though. Thank you.

    The central issue with these leftist progressives is that they are all unhappy and angry that life isn’t conforming to their desires. They are stuck in a perpetual state of childhood. To compensate they have to force life to conform… and they do that by forcing everyone to follow what they dictate.

    What we are witnessing is a psychological problem played out on society through the extremist politics of damaged and emotionally undeveloped people. Mikey Weinstein is a perfect example of this. Obama is another example…a malignant psychopathic narcissist who has taken control of a country.

    Weinstein, by the way, uses his son as an excuse for his own childhood issues. Weinstein decided to form the MRFF after he claimed that his Air Force son complained about Christians trying to force their religion down his throat. Weinstein is quite the piece of work.

      I saw that interview last night on The Kelly File. Mikey whatever his name is, he a jerk. Megyn handed that interveiw with class. When he told her that he had the floor, I was hoping he would fall through it. We took God out of our public schools and notice how well that worked out. Now this idiot wants to take God out of our military, I wish he would climb back under the hole he came from!

      THere’s a very on-point book you should read titled “Faith of the Fatherless: the Psychology of Atheism” by Paul Vitz. What Vitz discovered, and documents, is that almost all the leading atheists either had no father or had a bitter relationship with their fathers.

    Typical liberal on display there. Attack the constitution in a piecemeal fashion when it suits them, and declare that it is the same Constitution that gives them the power to do so. This entire movement is based on lunacy and pseudo made up offenses, and you hurt my little feelings arguments. You don’t want to say “so help me God” then don’t. Your choice. It’s been that way since the beginning of the nation’s founding. Get over yourself already.

        No it’s from one of my daughter’s favorite children’s book series. I collect children’s books because many of them are very clever. she loved to be read to as a child and that one was always top of the list. I always tried to buy books that were humorous and entertaining but has life lessons to them as well.

        I’m a Californian and conservative as well as a parent…so I don’t scare easily. ;)

        What I don’t like on money is the supposed all seeing eye, which is not rooted in God, but in false religion.

          Maybe. But it is kind of dicey. I highly doubt very many people, Christians included, look at the motto and go, “Oh, right, this money only exists because of God!” Maybe I’m too cynical, but given that the faces of our Presidents (and Franklin and Hamilton) are more prominent than the motto I tend to think it’s more of an afterthought.

          I’m not sure about the eye; I’ve heard conflicting accounts. Some say it’s a reference to Thoth, the ancient Egyptian messenger god (the Greeks considered him roughly equivalent to Hermes, but it’s not exactly like that.) Others have told me it’s a reference to Exodus, with the all-seeing eye of God watching His people endure slavery in Egypt before freeing them (but the Bible says that the Israelites were forced to build storehouses, not the pyramids.)

          I don’t know. I kind of don’t care, really. What’s on my currency doesn’t effect my faith. Render unto Caesar and all that.

I can’t help but wonder why it is that the unspecific, ultimately Deistic language of “…so help me God” or “In God we trust” inspires such rage. Even the French atheists enshrined the goddess of “Reason.” Mankind has been inventing gods ever since they rejected the real one, so why can’t they engage creativity and just insert whatever they want there mentally and stop being such a pain about it.

      It’s not like they say “In the Most Holy Trinity we trust” or “…so help me Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, One God now and forever. Amen.” In that case, even I’d admit that you have a clear case of religious endorsement and might have a legal cause to complain.

      Really though, it’s not about their legal woes. They’re evangelists. Unfortunately atheism isn’t a very comforting religion so they have to supplement poor outreach with legal enforcement.

        It’s like I saying the other day, no one is afraid of Allah; he doesn’t exist. No one’s afraid of Buddha; he’s dead and buried, but mention the name of Jesus Christ and suddenly everyone is scurrying like cockroaches trying to decry the mere utterance of the name.

        That’s why the Bible says that it is the name that is above EVERY name, and that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:9-11)

        You can’t run from the DNA that courses through your created being. You can’t hide from the eyes of God, and you can’t escape His wrath. Whole armies have marched against the Gospel of Jesus Christ and tried to wipe it from the earth, but you can’t stop God. His Word still remains some 2,000 years later as a testament to His unyielding glory.

        He is God, and the implications of that scares the godless to death.
