Another shooting in California kills at least 2, wounds several more

While everyone has been focused on the shooting near DC, there was another shooting in California where a UPS employee opened fire on his fellow employees, killing at least two and wounding at least one or two more before turning the gun on himself:

Here’s the lowdown:

FOX 5 – A shooting at United Parcel Service facility in San Francisco killed “multiple” people Wednesday morning, according to a company spokesman.

Four employees were involved in the shooting, including the gunman, according to Steven Gaut, a UPS spokesman. Gaut said the shooter was a driver.

The shooting occurred around 9 a.m. and prompted the San Francisco Police Department to issue a “shelter in place” alert to the neighborhood. The UPS facility is located on the border of the Mission District and Potrero Hill neighborhoods.

Police declared the building “secure” and that the incident was “contained” just after 10:30 a.m. in a tweet. Officers continued to search the building for additional victims and witnesses.

Gaut said employees were evacuated from the facility, which processes packages for delivery in the San Francisco area and has 815 workers.

It is unknown how many employees were in the facility at the time of the shooting, Gaut said.

“I don’t remember anything like this in California in recent history,” he said.

In a series of tweets that began just after 9 a.m., police told the public to avoid the area of 17th and Vermont streets.

Police officials did not immediately say if anyone was wounded or killed.

I’m seeing on twitter that at least two are dead and I don’t believe they are including the shooter in that number.

Here’s a tweet from someone that heard the shooting:
