On the Kelly File tonight, two of Bergdahl’s platoon mates were on the show to respond to newly revealed letters that Bergdahl sent his parents in 2012 and 2013. In those letters Bergdahl explains why he deserted, citing leader incompetence and general difficulty during his time in Afghanistan.
But his platoon mates both agree that it was a difficult experience and there are certainly times you won’t agree with your leaders, but that is no excuse to desert. Plus, they also agreed that those letters serve as proof that he did indeed desert, because he admitted it.
