At a fundraiser for Obama tonight, Bill Clinton was arguing the case for how much Obama’s done in spite of criticism, and referenced Allen West’s comments that almost 80 members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus were Communists:
He’s had to get all this done with a House of Representatives that had one of the Tea Party members claim that 78 to 81 members of the Democratic Caucus were members of the Communist Party and neither the presidential nominee nor any of the leaders rebuked him for saying that! This is not the 1950s. At least Joe McCarthy could skate on the fact that there were one or two living Communists walking around. Nobody’s seen a Communist in over a decade!
Allow me to quote Allen West when asked if he regretted his comments referenced in the above video:
No I don’t regret it whatsoever. And I think that if you would take the time to study the political spectrum of ideologies at the turn of the century, American Communists renamed themselves as progressives. If you study the Woodrow Wilson administration, people referred to the Woodrow Wilson administration as ‘a progressive administration.
Now what I would hope people would do in the media is – maybe you should do little research and start looking at what political ideologies are and what they stand for. There’s a very thin line between Communism/Progressivism/Marxism/Socialism or even as Mark Levin ha said, Statism.
It’s about nationalizing means of production. It’s about expanding the welfare state and economic justice. You hear that now played out with fairness, fair share or economic equality, shared sacrifice ad nauseum, ad infinitum. It’s also about the creation of a secular state.
So I stand by what I’m saying.
It’s very interesting that people on the Left are not debating the point that I made, they just don’t like the fact that it was made.
