Bloomberg and MSNBC’s Mark Halperin Gets High On Trump Copter

The presidential candidates are stumping in Iowa this weekend (well, not Rand Paul), and among them, of course, is Donald Trump. Trump brought his helicopter along and gave a bunch of kids rides as promised. Among the adults who participated were Mark Halperin and ABC’s Martha Raddatz. Here’s the video:

The selfie-taking, chummy atmosphere probably felt very natural, and certainly Trump seemed relatable, but the whole thing would be loudly objected to if the person with the helo was Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton. This is the press. He is the candidate. If it was just for fun then do it just for fun. But Halperin attempts to squeeze some sort of news out of it even as he’s gazing out the windows with (presumably) his children. Not to mention the fact that Bloomberg and ABC are touting the video all over the web as if it is news content.

Still, there was little notable discussion during the flight, although the bit where Trump corrects Halperin for calling Mitt Romney rich was amusing. “He wasn’t rich,” said Trunp.

Nevertheless, Halperin seemed disappointed on at least one score. “I was hoping you’d wear jeans,” he told the candidate.

Because journalism.
