UNC: Bloomberg criticizes backward vote on NC marriage amendment, says more work needs to be done

At the very liberal UNC-Chapel Hill’s graduation ceremony this weekend, Bloomberg took a moment to call out North Carolina for it’s backward vote on “banning same-sex marriage”, suggesting there is still work that needs to be done to ensure equality and freedom for all people:

Bloomberg has and always will be a sorry excuse for a politician. It’s one thing to disagree on an issue. I can respect that. It’s another thing to paint the citizens of North Carolina as backward thinking hicks that aren’t smart enough yet to realize his ideal of equality.

But that’s the problem with elites. We are never smart enough for them and their ivy league ideas. Our intellectual and practical arguments are just folly to them. No, we just get bitter and cling to our guns and our religion.

UPDATE: I forgot that Bloomberg left the Republican party sometime back. Corrected.

Well said RS, I agree 100%!

  • Sober_Thinking

I can’t listen to this tard. It’s a miracle he wasn’t run out of town…

He has been an embrassment and a clown in N.Y. and the fact that people let this jerk speak publicly is unbelievable. I didn’t know he was a Republican… the classic definition of RINO I guess. He is as liberal as they come and I hope we see less of him in the future. There are already plenty of imbeciles behind the mic… one less would be refreshing.

    • Actually I was wrong. He used to be a Republican. Now he’s an independent or something.

      • Joe

        He’s a “something”

        • Rshill7

He’s one of several reasons many people who used to live in NYC now live in North Carolina. Both my parents were raised in North Carolina. We “kids” spent a lot of time there growing up. I wouldn’t live in NYC for anything. I’d rather live in a hospice.

You can take your big city and rammalammadingdang it Bloomberg! North Carolina has it right. Guess who has it wrong, early, often, late and with consistency?

YOU. Regarding your “values”, keep them crammed down your own throat. NC has no desire to be anything like you. Neither do I.

          • StandingGround

Give ’em h3ll, Rs7!!!! Goes for me, too!

      • MacSwain

Something else to remember for future elections needs to be mentioned in this thread.

Yes R.S.! Bloomberg flew the Republican/Conservative flag just long enough to get the vote.

However, the POINT (villian) to remember in future is: IT WAS RUDY GIULIANI’s endorsement that got Bloomberg elected as NYC Mayor.

That endorsement was the only reason enough people bought into Bloomberg’s “conservative” lie. And NYC has paid the price of Giuliani’s folley. I will always wonder how much it cost Bloomberg to get that golden endorsement and we should never trust Giuliani for any elective office.

        • MiketheMarine

Guiliani is a RINO at best, as well. His social platform is pathetic.

      • welltempered2

He was never even a RINO. He became a Republican because it was politically expedient. Real class.

It still boggles my mind that he is a self made billionaire. Now that he got his he wants to slam the door shut behind him.

      • Sober_Thinking

That makes more sense. Thanks Scoop.

  • Susanna958

The thing is, THIS is what democracy looks like. They just don’t like what the majority wants.

    • NYGino

Kinda like what is happening in the Muslim Brotherhood countries that our impostor in chief and his State department is witnessing.

  • Joe

Bloomberg is sniffing too much subway dust!

    It’s affecting his mind

  • 4Hoppes2

Still trying to paint the Reaffirmation of what the definition of Marriage is as a referendum opposing homosexual marriage. The homosexual community lost Nothing, the definition of Marriage was clearly defined, no more no less.

  • c4pfan

He left it and then came back, I thought? In order to be re-elected?

  • I can’t say much more than you already did Scoop. Well said as usual.

  • The current definition of marriage is not discriminatory toward those who self-identify as homosexual. “Marriage equality” is a red herring. All adults equally have the same right to marry a consenting adult of the opposite gender.

  • steprock

First of all, not only am I backward and old-fashioned, I am proud to be downright ANCIENT. My beliefs don’t change with the wind, but are based on values that are over 2,000 years old.

Second, NC validated and codified what “marriage” is. To my knowledge, they didn’t BAN anything.

    • Well said steprock!

    • Yup, all the state did was amend their constitution so it said in plain language that “marriage” is defined as a relationship between one man and one woman. They saw what a judge can do to the will of the people if the language of the law isn’t crystal clear. They already have a law banning SSM, all they did was change the state constitution so some judge couldn’t find or invent some obscure typo and turn reality on it’s head.

  • MiketheMarine

He is simply wrong. The order of the Reference material our laws and mores are based on are as follows.

    1) The Bible
    2) The Magna Carta
    3) The Declaration of Independence
    4) The US Constitution
    4a) The Bill of Rights.

Homosexuality is not acceptable in any one of these.

    • steprock

      BUT I WANT TO!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Doesn’t that count?
      (Plus, you’re a stupid-face if you disagree, knuckle-dragger.)

There. New order. But that works about the same as traditional rule of law, don’t you think?

      • MiketheMarine

I love that. I am, indeed, a stupid face knuckle dragger who clings to my Bible and guns. 🙂

  • johnos2112

Hey Bloomberg here is an unintended consequence for you sir. Who is going to back the pastors and institutions of worship when slime bag lawyers go to these people and SUE them because of their belief systems? Because folks this is not about equality this is about power! If you do not think these lawyers would not sue in states where gay marriage is the law you are delusional. When pastors refuse to marry gays then this is really going to get ugly.

    • steprock

DING! Or hire them for children’s ministers, or offer full health coverage…

    • c4pfan

He doesn’t care about people of faith. Unless it’s Muslim.

      • Rshill7

Right. What’s more backward than Islam? They would not only vote against gay marriage, they would cut the heads off of any that even spoke the desire.

Let’s hear your Islam speech Bloomberg! Go deliver it at ground zero. Tell them that backward is the new forward. I think you are backward, Islam is backward and NC and Christianity are peechy keen. If you don’t like that, tough tookies. Your opinion doesn’t trump dirt.

    • MiketheMarine

On that note, in the past two years the attornies who work for the state of Maryland have decided that insurance professionals are REQUIRED to attend 24 hours of continuing education class. This is up from 12. Can you guys the number of CE credits an attorney needs in the state of Maryland? I’ll give you a hint……

      Doesn’t seem right

  • CaseyGeorge

I really think its in poor taste for politicians to use graduation ceremonies to take cheap shots and promote political agendas.

This is supposed to be about the graduates, not about you, your party, or your cause.

    • c4pfan

      Me too! Enough with that!

  • NJK

You need to worry about your own state, Bloomberg. I’m getting sick and tired of these liberal politicians up North trying to impose their views on other states. Northern aggression is what led to the Civil War, and if they don’t stop, it’s going to head that way again. The South will not let you win, next time.

  • Never had any respect for Bloomberg. Hope he fades away into the sunset with Obummer at his side…

  • WestGAFlash

I find it amusing that the vaunted collection of communists, progressives and liberals at UNC couldn’t find a local pinko to address the students. They had to import Bloomie from, where the hell is he from?

  • 4Hoppes2

Constitutional amendment to provide that marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized by this State.

This is the wording in the amendment and no matter how many times I read it I can not find the words Ban, Same Sex, Homosexuals or any other denial of any equality or injustice.

  • Wow, Bloomberg had a lot of nerve telling the people of North Carolina they were “backwards.” Isn’t N.C. the home of Billy Graham?

I think nanny Bloomberg should have respected how the people voted and furthermore saying such a thing didn’t belong in a graduation speech.

    • WestGAFlash

He’s too busy banning salt in public restaurants.

  • According to liberals, there is only one “right” opinion, and that’s the one that agrees with them. Yep, these people just smell of tolerance, don’t they? God forbid that anyone should disagree with them. Because if you do, then there certainly must be something wrong with you and not them, right? What a shabby little creature he is, this Bloomberg fellow.

    • kong1967

Any opposing view is considered as hate speech, literally. The actual hate speech from the left is acceptable (kill Bush, kill Limbaugh, etc.).

  • NYGino

    Bloomberg. The nuisance of nannydom.

  • I guess California and 30 other states are just “backward” bigots too.

    • kong1967

In a way it’s a compliment. The slogan “forward” is a communist trademark. I’ll be backwards all day long to avoid that.

      • NYGino

        Good catch kong1967.

  • G_unitttt

traditional marriage = monogamy + heterosexuality
proposed marriage = monogamy + homosexuality

my question to the libs…..what do you find so sacred about monogamy?

logical next step -> polygamy + homosexuality

sounds far-fetched? we don’t want to be discriminatory against bisexuals and muslims

    • NYGino

If you really want to avoid discrimination you will have to include pedophiles, necrophiliacs, bestiality practitioners, and on and on. We’re either open to diversity or we’re not.

  • brendawatkins

I guess God is backwards according to Mr. Bloomberg. I prefer being on God’s side of this issue as opposed to Mr. Bloombergs. This kind of behavior is just asking for the wrath of God to fall on you.

  • kong1967

Yep, more work to be done. One task is getting rid of this liberal jackass.

  • GreenBeretWay

The MTV crowd always asks these stupid pollute-atitions Boxers or Briefs?
I am starting to wonder if Bloomberg wears ladies Bloomers.
But then again I really don’t think I want to know.
Joe here at RS could probably produce a picture of Bloomberg in drag.
But then again I really don’t know if I want to see that image.

  • Yes, more work needs to be done — at the Afro-American Studies department where free grades are given for no work done and plagiarism seems to be campus wide.

  • stage9

“Backwards vote”. So it’s now backwards to take a stand for the natural and moral definition of marriage?

Comparing the Lifestyles of Homosexual Couples to Married Couples

Now explain to me again, WHO exactly is “backwards”?

“Gay activists often point to high divorce rates and claim that married couples fare little better than homosexuals with regard to the duration of their relationships. The research, however, indicates that male homosexual relationships last only a fraction of the length of most marriages.”

“A 2001 National Center for Health Statistics study on marriage and divorce statistics reported that 66 percent of first marriages last ten years or longer, with fifty percent lasting twenty years or longer.[2]”

“The 2003-2004 Gay/Lesbian Consumer Online Census surveyed the lifestyles of 7,862 homosexuals. Of those involved in a “current relationship,” only 15 percent describe their current relationship as having lasted twelve years or longer, with five percent lasting more than twenty years.[4] While this “snapshot in time” is not an absolute predictor of the length of homosexual relationships, it does indicate that few homosexual relationships achieve the longevity common in marriages.”

    • kong1967

Yep. When you are a baby and you put the round peg in the round hole you will be sent to a psychiatrist for reparational therapy. If you put the square peg in the round hole you will be considered normal.

They think that mother nature is backwards.

  • Why the hell is “dick” Bloomberg giving the commencement address at UNC? Were there no “dicks” available from North Carolina, so they had to call one down from New York?

  • marketcomp

Bloomerg is a diaster as mayor of New York. He allowed OWS to takeover that city and turn it into a dumping ground. So why would he care if gay marriage is legalized in North Carolina his city is the one needing citizens since people are leaving the State for other states such as North Carolina. Bloomberg always as something to say about Southern States including critizing Georgia for it’s right to carry a consealed weapon. He and others are not Republicans and they cause confusion within the GOP. Does anyone believe that if this clown was President he would be just like Obama? It just goes to proves that in New York, if you have money you can buy the mayorial office.

  • InsiderII

Liberty is just that, live your life as you choose without treading on the liberties of others. Freedom as as it is, live your life and do as you will. When your Liberty and Freedom makes this Country weak and vunerable as it has in many previous societies and brought them to extension then your Liberty and Freedom must be challenged. As imperfect as it might be Father and Mother Families have produced the Greatest Country this World has ever seen. Perversion will bring nothing but destruction and an end to our greatness. It takes a male and a female to make life all the rest is just perversion. Sex that leads to nothing and produces nothing. Self gratification at it’s simpliest.

  • welltempered2

    What courage. What a moron.

  • MikeBri527

Bloomberg is a big government progressive. The government needs to get out of our bedrooms and let the people and the churches deal with the question of what constitutes a marriage and what doesn’t. The marriage question is no place for government laws and regulations.

  • NCHokie02

Agree with you RS. Thats what states are about though. If you don’t agree with the way people in North Carolina want to live and what laws they want to live under then go to another state….say….New York. Too many liberal Yankees come down south because they want to escape the burdonsome taxes and government that they voted in yet can’t understand why it’s happeneing. Only problem is they bring their liberal views with them. Thats what happened to VA and is happening in NC.

RS you should also look for Gov Bev Perdue’s comment on the vote. She is just as retarded and said that the vote to add the ban of gay marriage to the constitution of NC makes NC look like Mississippi. So not only is she saying that Mississippi is backwards and bigoted but also her own state of NC. Unreal.

  • Never had faith in Bloomberg. Never will.

    –Victor Golf Charles

  • barney59

    Bloomberg… geeezzz what a tool.

  • NYGino

Bloomberg, as shown by his comments in North Carolina, is the type of person that will, if invited into your home, begin to tell you what he sees that is not to his taste. Your sense of colors is not compatible with his, your furniture might be comfortable to you but you don’t have his refined taste. “I don’t care if that picture of that woman hanging in your hallway is your grandmother, she is not a handsome lady, if indeed she is a lady, and you should take it down and replace it with something more appealing.”

He is a first class boor with money, a rude, inconsiderate scratch on a chalkboard.

  • NYGino

He goes on about liberty…”If government can deny freedom to one it can deny freedom to all”. How many personal freedoms has he outlawed in his City. Tells you what you can eat, drink, smoke, basically how to live your life according to the Rules of Bloomberg.

Tells you that your being insensitive because you object to a 13 story Islamic Mosque being built next to ground zero.

Lot of nerve going into another State and basically calling the people of that State a bunch of illiterate, backward hicks.

  • wodiej

It’s not backward if NC residents don’t want it. This is a states rights issues and Bloomberg needs to nib out-it’s none of his business. Frankly, it’s none of Obama’s business either. If you live in a rare state that does approve it and you don’t like it, then move to one of the 36 states that hasn’t approved it. You have a nice variety to choose from.

In the last several days I’ve seen numerous posts about gay marriage and very little about jobs, the economy etc. Do the conservatives want to lose again?

    • Galatiansch2vs20

America loses for each step she takes toward embracing sexual immorality of a certain variety as something it is not- marriage. Kudos for those in NC who voted to affirm and recognize the truth of what marriage is.

As for who is running, I’ve heard Romney is remaining low key, probably owing to his own record in MA and his desire to garner votes of people who are self-deceived or have been indoctrinated into thinking the practice of a certain kind of sexual immorality should afford those who practice it special civil rights not afforded to other singles who practice other types of of sexual immorality.

  • Galatiansch2vs20

Sadly, young children are being indoctrinated in our public schools today in regards to homosexuality. I saw in a documentary called IndoctriNation this being done. Parents are entrusting their children to be taught reading, writing and math but the kids are being brainwashed. If parents continue to send their kids off to public school, it is highly likely very soon Bloomberg’s wish about homosexual behavior being called marriage (though falsely) in this country will come true.

  • hongryhawg

Yeah Bloomy; you’re right. You’re just gonna have to start bending over more.

  • Nukeman60

Perhaps Bloomberg could get a NY federal Judge to overrule NC’s legitimate vote, because we all know the unwashed masses aren’t allowed to think for themselves. Only an activist judge would know enough to be able to tell these people what they want.

Even in California, the people know better than these dufuses, in spite of what their courts keep doing to them out there.

  • jimmie smith

I believe Mr. Bloomburg is “shooten” for the eastern zone “czar”…under the current regime of course?….
