BOLTON: There was ONE word missing from Trump’s Afghanistan address…

John Bolton wasn’t jumping up and down over Trump’s Afghanistan address, but he did like it, saying that it was rhetorically good and that we need to see how it plays out.

But he did say there was one thing missing from Trump’s speech that he feels is very important:

Did you guess what it was before watching it? Or did you just skip ahead to down here to see what it was?

Ok fine, it was China.

Bolton makes the point that China is responsible for both N. Korea and Pakistan having nukes and that China, as a part of its One Belt One Road initiative, has spent a lot more money in Pakistan than we do because they want to significantly increase their influence there.

So he believes that part of Trump’s Afghanistan policy should be to pressure China into getting Pakistan to give up their safe havens for the Taliban, Al Qaeda, and ISIS and to renounce terrorism completely – that is if China wants good relations with America.

Bolton also make the argument that implicit in Trump’s address tonight, perhaps from his advisors, is that we are in Afghanistan to defend Afghanistan. But he says that’s only incidental to the reason we are there, which is really to defend America from the terrorist threat.

Bolton suggests that we cannot believe that our defense ultimately rests on Afghanistan, because if that’s the case we’re in serious trouble.
