Apparently they need more time to deliberate over this ‘complex’ issue. If you ask me this doesn’t sound like a good development for those who want the Boy Scouts to keep the ban:

YAHOO NEWS – The Boy Scouts of America put off a decision Wednesday on whether to lift its ban on gay members and leaders, saying the question will be taken up at the organization’s national meeting in May.

“After careful consideration and extensive dialogue within the Scouting family, along with comments from those outside the organization, the volunteer officers of the Boy Scouts of America’s National Executive Board concluded that due to the complexity of this issue, the organization needs time for a more deliberate review of its membership policy,” Deron Smith, the BSA director of public relations, said in a statement.

Smith said the organization’s national executive board will prepare a resolution for the 1,400 voting members of the national council to consider. The annual meeting will take place in May, 2013, in Grapevine, Texas.

    From http://www.scouting.org/executiveboarddecision.aspx

“…the National Executive Board directed its committees to further engage representatives of Scouting’s membership and listen to their perspectives and concerns. This will assist the officers’ work on a resolution on membership standards. The approximately 1,400 voting members of the National Council will take action on the resolution at the National Annual Meeting in May 2013.”

Actually, given the above excerpt, it sounds like a good development, as the decision is now in the hands of the National Council, instead of just the National Executive Board. I would guess there are more traditionalists in that 1,400-member bloc.

    • bbitter

We can hope, work, and pray. However this is encouragement to the homosexual movement as they see tacit if not open approval for dropping the ban from the National Executive Board.

That buckling has me concerned… I’m a scout master and I’ll not be able to continue in good faith, contribute to scouting, or even look with a friendly eye on my neighbors donating to scouting if this goes through. I cannot morally support homosexuality in any form.

“due to the complexity of this issue, the organization needs time for a more deliberate review of its membership policy..”

What is complex? You either stand on your principles and the honorable heritage you have had or you fold like a cheap lawn chair and end up being just another pc organization on the trash heap.

    • Orangeone

      Amen sis!

    • cabensg

      Damn straight!

    • deTocqueville1

      Good one, hah, hah!

Excellent point, AbC. A few years ago the United Way and the Boy Scouts ended their association because of the Boy Scouts refusing to allow homosexuals to be Scout leaders. It seems the attack they were under then has now returned. It will be interesting to see how things have “evolved” from then to now. I guess sooner or later it will be required to have pedophiles to be involved in our children’s nurseries.

      • http://no-apologies-round2.blogspot.com/ AmericanborninCanada

Oh good grief, don’t give them any ideas Don! Your points are well made also though.

  • http://black-avenger-1.livejournal.com/profile VirusX

I’ve already withdrawn my support. They’re just amother so called Christian organization that has chosen to turn its back on Jesus Christ. I wash my hands of them, and shake the dust off my boots.

  • sjmom

Wonder if this has anything to do with a former Boy Scout leader in Virginia being indicted Monday on sodomy charges? hmmmmmm.

    • Orangeone

Great minds, I posted the link in my comment :)

      • sjmom

        :) :)

  • objective123

Southern Baptist Conference threat must have worked (I would go through it and remove all funding for the want to be Gay Scouts) Let us see how many f-a-g-g-o-t kids will join this organization.

    • Orangeone

And let’s add a registry for them too! If it’s good for gun owners, it’s good for gays so we are sure not to “discriminate” against them.

  • bjohnson55

Liberals love to make a simple issue “complex” so the enlightened can make decisions for those lower life forms who cling to their guns and Bibles. As AmericanborninCanada already stated this is not a “complex” issue it is a moral issue. Look at the motto of the Boy Scouts I do believe teaching Morals is in there somewhere, right?

  • TickedWhiteDude

We should also let ex-convicts run the girl scouts too.

    • Orangeone

Likely happening, the girl scouts are so far left it’s frightening.

  • Orangeone
    • toongoon

Gee. An inconvenient truth but it will cease to be a crime if they vote to drop the ban.

  • ryanomaniac

You losing a ton of your members isn’t complex.

    • Orangeone

Not to mention businesses that make donations to their organization.

    • T4Ut

The Utah chapter of the BSA is the largest (has the most members) in the nation.

I can guarantee that if this rule changes the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will pull it’s support and the Utah chapter will disappear.

  • MiketheMarine

Why can’t each troop make their own decisions? Come on people, I’m against the whole gay/lesbo thing but this is not a national discussion. It’s all distracting BS.

    • cabensg

Gotta disagree with you here. How would a parent go about finding a troop not led by a homosexual? What if after joining a homosexual was chosen as leader? How could you have your son take a pledge of being morally straight with a homosexual scout leader? When the organization has it’s values stated clearly from the top down it eliminates all the confusion and hypocrisy. This would be like trying to run our country without the Constitution but by opinion like we’re getting now.

    • DebbyX

That just wouldn’t work. All the troops get together too often, there’s no way to separate them.

    • Patriot077

It is a national discussion in my opinion. The BSA is a national organization and the very foundation is on Christian principles. Is it possible to build strong moral character in the boys they serve when they can’t exhibit the courage of their convictions as an organization?

I don’t dislike gays and I’ve enjoyed friendships with a few over the years. That doesn’t mean that I accept their lifestyle. That’s between them and God. I do not want gay males in a faith based organization where young boys could become easy targets. I don’t mean to imply that all gays are pedophiles, either, but certainly the attraction to the same sex is already prevalent.

It’s hard enough trying to protect youths from the opportunistic pedophiles who somehow manage to groom their victims without anyone realizing until the damage has been done.

My son was a scout and I was active in his troop. I know the national organization developed rules for the leaders and the scouts which are meticulously observed in the better troops. Having said that, we are all aware that Murphy’s law always exists and there will always be those who feel that rules don’t apply to them.

I’m going to be very, very upset with the BSA if they cave on this. I don’t care how many big donors they lose, they must practice what they have always preached.

    • momto3scouts

Also, a problem here is when you go off to camp…. how will you know which troop has the gays and which doesn’t? Or to their Jamborees? Again, when many troops are put together at one large boy scout camp..you never know why will be there. KWIM?

  • http://navalwarfare.blogspot.com/ Libertyship46

The Boy Scouts is a private organization and the Supreme Court defended their right NOT to have gays serving as Scouts or Scout leaders. Deal with it, gay people. If you are SO upset about that, then start your own gay Boy Scout private organization. That way, people will know up front what you’re all about and you won’t have to hide what you are in the regular Boy Scouts. But no, the gays stamp their little feet like spoiled children and even though they are a small percentage of the overall population they feel compelled to drag everybody down to their level. The Scouts should not give in on this and, if they do, I’ll bet they will lose a lot of members, and that would be the real tragedy in all of this.

    • cabensg

The overall goal isn’t about homosexuals being part of the Scouts. The goal is to destroy an organization that teaches young boys to be morally straight and upstanding citizens. Maybe militant homosexuals think it’s important to be allowed to be in scouting but the liberal socialist goal is to destroy the Boy Scouts. The teachings of the Boy Scouts is diametrically opposite to the socialist indoctrination in our schools, on TV and elsewhere. If homosexuals are allowed into the Boy Scouts it will eventually destroy the organization. Churches will withdraw support and so will parents and many organizations, the scouts will not survive as it once was. Just like our government, our schools, our churches and our entertainment. The socialist goal is to infiltrate, indoctrinate and subjugate.

  • Landscaper

Eating a WIENER by the campfire takes on a whole new meaning now.

    • DebbyX

You didn’t just say that, did you?

I did giggle a bit, I must admit.

  • deTocqueville1

Perhaps they weren’t “prepared” for the backlash!

  • 12grace

This is very sad, the boy scouts used to be a wholesome group.

    • Patriot077

      They are a wholesome group.

This circus is run by the same activist groups that fought prop 8 in Ca. They will not be satisfied until they have forced everyone to accept their lifestyle whether it violates their conscience or not. They are boycotting large corporations who support scouting which has driven a stake into the budget and the public perception of the BSA.

  • deeme

I would like to know what in the heck is going on here??? Since when does sexual orientation even have a need to come up in joining youth groups?? You become a boyscout to learn how to be a man , on your honor no less..If your sex life comes up you have crossed the line as far as I’m concerned..You’ve change the purpose of the group..To learn important life skills..Sex is not one of them..If your sex life becomes a part of the group, you no longer are a part of the task at hand..but a task, no parent put their boys in the boyscouts to learn about ,they have enough trash on t.v. for that. Not everything is about sex..

  • Sober_Thinking

I don’t get what there is to discuss. What a gay merit badge would look like maybe?

I keep two Boy Scout handbooks in my library from the 50s and 60s (mainly because I find them interesting) and nowhere does it talk about embracing a gay lifestyle of folding under pressure. It does reference God and Christian principles many time though. My how times have changed.

    • DebbyX

The entire scout oath would have to be re-written. My son was in scouting, I might be old school, but I wouldn’t have wanted him “bunking” with the gay kid. There are enough mixed signals out there already.

      • Sober_Thinking

        I support you on that…

A friend of mine said he would send back every one of his badges, etc. if they turn to the rainbow side. What a disgrace this is…

        • DebbyX

Yuuuuup! It’s difficult to even enjoy a rainbow anymore. They had to go and ruin a natural phenomenon for us too.

          • Sober_Thinking

Something that was God’s promise to us… Ugh.

    • chatterbox365

      Probably a rainbow badge…LOL!

I have some old books from the 1920’s about politics and etiquette and they are the most interesting reads. I am fond of the one about etiquette because it tells girls how to be ladies…no foul language, proper grooming, respect, etc. Go to a college campus and there are so many skanks trolling around.

      • Sober_Thinking

“Skank”… what a descriptive and appropriate word… always makes me laugh.

I’m trying to raise my 16 yr. old daughter to be a virtuous woman… she’s in a Christian private school (that I honestly can’t afford), we go to church, we do things together as a family…

It’s hard to keep the world’s filth off of her or out of her mind… and if we fail, well, another skank might be born.

Some of those older books continue to be founts of wisdom.

  • chatterbox365

I wonder if they will propose a “don’t ask, don’t tell” type policy.

    • unionville

I think that’s what they have now. Particularly given all the molestations that have occured by scoutmasters. I don’t think those are hetero males molesting those boys.

      • Patriot077

Can’t comment on “all the molestations” but I believe the numbers to be relatively small for the numbers of youths and leaders over many decades. The only two cases I have knowledge of (one on the East Coast and one on the West) both involved married men with families.

  • notsofastthere

This is the same tactic that Hillary and all use. Postpone everything until the issue becomes old news, or the time is right to push through the unpopular decision.

  • http://www.facebook.com/brian.mouland.908 Brian Mouland

Live in Canada and was a scout when a kid 50 years ago. Scouts went inclusive here in 2000 in this country and numbers have dropped since expect same thing to happen in the USA. Wholesome values and honesty dont cut in this progressive world anymore
