DOMA is unconstitutional

From what I am seeing the ruling was based on equal protections:
The federal government cannot disparage marriages recognized by the states, says the Court.

On Prop. 8, SCOTUS blog is predicting SCOTUS will not rule it ‘no standing’ which means lower court ruling invalidating it stands:
Looks like the Court is preparing to not decide Prop 8. So the trial judge's ruling invalidating Prop 8 stands. No national ruling.

VERDICT IS IN FOR PROP 8:
Prop 8. No standing. Per Roberts. 5-4.
— SCOTUSblog (@SCOTUSblog) June 26, 2013
This means gay marriage is alive and well in California, despite the people voting it down in 2008.
No precedent on gay marriage in the Prop 8 case. The S. Ct. does not decide, 5-4. Roberts, Scalia, Ginsburg, Breyer, and Kagan majority.

BREAKING: Supreme Court clears way for same-sex unions in Calif., but avoids ruling on gay marriage.
— The Associated Press (@AP) June 26, 2013
Same-sex marriage will be available in CA, at least where court clerks take the position that Prop 8 is unconstitutional.

Here’s a good caveat to the Prop. 8 decision:
While I supperted Prop 8, I'm glad to see SCOTUS start killing off direct democracy.

RT @baseballcrank Prop 8 standing decision is effectively the death knell of the referendum process (YMMV if that's a good thing).
