BREAKING: U.S. Marine Veteran Jon Hammar to be released from Mexican prison today

FOX NEWS – Jon Hammar, the U.S. Marine imprisoned in Mexico on a gun charge, will be released today, his mother told Fox News Radio.

Olivia Hammar said the judge hearing Hammar’s case issued a ruling in his favor and that her son is to be released at a time on Friday yet to be announced. No more details were available. Hammar, 27, who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, has been stuck in a notorious, drug cartel-controlled prison just 15 miles south of the U.S. border since Aug. 13, after he crossed into Mexico and declared an antique shotgun to Mexican customs officials.

News of his pending release came just a day after a letter surfaced from Mexico’s ambassador to the U.S. that insisted Hammar’s case would go to trial.

“This circumstance requires that he remain under detention during the duration of his trial,” Arturo Sarukhan said in the letter.

I won’t be relieved for him until he sets foot on U.S. soil. They can still change their minds, or overrule the judge.

  • tinlizzieowner

The media ‘hype’ (mostly on Fox News) and the threat to Mexico’s tourist trade is what caused this. A Mexican judge could have released him in August. Wonder how long it’s going to be before Barry tries to take credit for it.

    • colliemum

That will be within one minute after Jon Hammar has stepped on US soil.

      • tinlizzieowner

I can almost guarantee that Barry will have something to say about ‘the government’ was working behind the scenes in this all along. Even though he wouldn’t come out and comment about the injustice of this in the first place, for 3 months.
        Situational (liberal) Hypocrite.

        • Zero is really good at two things. Stealing Credit due others and shirking responsibility!

          • Orangeone

See my reply to tinlizzieowner above!

            • I sure hope someone has a camera! 🙂 That would quickly become the most watched video on Youtube bypassing that stupid South Korean gangnam or whatever the heck he’s called.

              • Orangeone

We’ve have #FreeJonHammerPt2 trending in no time too 🙂  But somehow I think if anyone had the guts, Jon Hammar is the man 🙂

          • one more Wolfie- you forgot the one that comes in between- He’s good at blaming Bush.

            • Oh… I thought that was a given! 😉 (forgot to add that to be honest 🙂 )

        • Orangeone

Me thinks this time the Marine will turn and deck him.

      • warpmine

The real reason Hillary couldn’t be bothered to testify, she’s been working hard for this.

    • Orangeone

Those on Twitter deserve credit as well. There has been tremendous support for Jon and criticism of the Mexican government.

Barky will take credit in 3.2.1

      • …ZERO! Oh, how appropriate.

      • tinlizzieowner

Since I don’t use twitter I haven’t seen the efforts over there. I suspect it was substantial. 🙂

        • It was an awesome effort. 🙂

You should get on Twitter, it can be a pain in the neck to use at times, but it’s also a good source of breaking news and I get links to news articles I might otherwise miss. It’s worth checking out anyway. 🙂 Happy Christmas my friend!

        • Orangeone

You have been supporting those of us that also tweets with your great information that we could share in Twitterland and for that I THANK YOU!

        • colliemum

I second/third Wolfie and Orangeone: you can use twitter/get a twitter account from your PC, and then use your PC for tweets: much easier than using a cell phone!

One other reason it is very useful is that one can get tweets from e.g. people standing up against Morsi in Egypt, or from Israel, all stuff which never makes it to the MSM, and all being tweeted right when it is happening.

          • All true and seconded! I use twitter exclusively on my PC.

          • tinlizzieowner

I’m just too old (and disinterested) to get involved in twitter. I can barely operate the blackberry my daughter gave me. Sitting here at my desk top with my coffee and cigars, (and a cat in my face) is just fine for me. 🙂

            • colliemum

I’ll say nothing at all about having a cat in one’s face … LOL!
But you really can do twitter from your PC – I do that, because I loathe cell phones and only have an old one in case of emergencies, which is otherwise useless.

              • tinlizzieowner

That’s all I had until my daughter insisted I at least try to join the 20th century and gave me her ‘old’ blackberry because she has one of these gadgets that talks to her, now. You’d think she was a teenager but she’s in her early 40’s. She’s a 21’st century woman. She was involved in a minor traffic accident, what’s the first thing she does? posts pictures of it on facebook, then calls daddy, then calls the law. Sometimes I have to wonder if she really is a successful businesswoman with a degree in ‘Information Services’.

            • LOL your kitty does that too huh? Mine comes up regularly to see what’s going on on Scoop. The only time she comes up lol.

              • tinlizzieowner

We’ve got an almost grown kitten, she’s a holy terror. Climbing the screens and curtains, knocking Christmas decorations off the book shelf, spilling her water dish, just into everything.

                • She must be my Miss Jane Deere’s sister. Good grief, you just described mine~ I haven’t been able to have a decent Christmas tree for three years lol. She knocked over my Nativity snow globe yesterday and broke it 🙁 silly kitty.

                • I take it you – I was going to make an anti-cat joke – But I thought better of it! 😉

                • lol.. She keeps me company, but I do miss my pup.

                • A new year is coming… What better way to begin than to invite a new furry family member into your life… Woof! 🙂

                • tvlgds

I haven’t put up a tree since 1996. It was primarily a giant cat toy!

                • LOL!! LOL!!! 😀 Gotta love our kitteh’s anyway!

                • That is one of the big reasons I prefer dogs! 🙂

                • tinlizzieowner

Dogs love you, they rely on you, they wait patently on you to return home.
Cats, keep the auto feeder full, they won’t eat all of it at once like a dog, clean out the cat pan once in a while. When they aren’t eating or pooping, they’re sleeping. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had dogs and I love dogs, I’m just lazy. 😉

          • Orangeone

Great points mum. I have a fantastic follower who now lives in Canada after leaving Iraq. She gives us the truth of what was happening over there.

            • colliemum

I got an account during the GreenRevolution in Iran – then let it lapse. Then I just linked to various websites, especially the Israeli ones for obvious reasons. Now I’m a bit more into it, but am still mostly using it as another source for information, thanks to the various excellent links other people tweet.

Must get my finger out and get more proactive.
              Well – next year …!

              • poljunkie

                “must get my finger out.”

                ha ha- priceless.

                • colliemum

(Blushing) – aww, British slang will creep in, can’t help meself …

                • poljunkie

                  I love it!

    • Betsey_Ross

We have several friends and relatives that go to Mexico during the holiday season. None have gone for mostly financial reasons since 2008. By now a couple of them are not going because they don’t feel safe there. Back in 08 that feeling was there, but it was warm and at that point the resorts were safe, but none of them felt safe off the restort. No reason to go there at all anymore. Taking a vacation and being confined to the resort just doesn’t cut it. Heck you could go to Gitmo and have the same experience. No thanks.

      • tinlizzieowner

I’m a former Californian. I could never think of a good reason to go to Mexico, even though Tijuana had some of the best upholstery shops for custom cars, it just wasn’t the kind of place you wanted to be ‘caught’ in. Things have become much worse since the ‘Surfin USA’ 60’s.

        • poljunkie

We used to go—20 years ago. But not any more. Too risky. Its too bad. So convenient. Much less expensive, and some really nice places.

….And a built in “diet” plan on the way home. (but you have to drink water from the water fountain at the airport)

        • Orangeone

Me too tinlizzie. Went to Tijuana once with my dad in the 60s and once was enough even back then.

      • Orangeone

And you would receive better medical care at Gitmo too 🙂

  • colliemum

I pray he will come home today – but will wait with thanks until he has crossed the border safely.

  • 4Hoppes2

That is great news!!! I had e-mailed my congressmen when I heard Brian Kilmeade on Fox report the story, I hope tens of thousands of Americans may have made even the smallest of effort to secure his release.

    • Orangeone

You are correct and I think it was hundreds of thousands of Americans (primarily our veterans), Fox, West, Levin and all the others that stepped up for this courageous man.

    • I know thousands have been praying!

      • 4Hoppes2

We sure have been and continue to pray, as you said below, when he arrives on American soil it will be a Huge Hallelujah!

        • tinlizzieowner

If he isn’t released now, the Mexican government knows there’s going to be hell to pay. Barry could have ‘suggested’ that to them months ago if Valerie Jarrett had told him he has a spine.
          😉 😉

        • amen!!

      • Orangeone

Yes they have sis and thank you for helping to lead in that effort!

    • tinlizzieowner

Oh, you can bet money that the outcry of the American people (not the American government), played a big part in this.

  • Orangeone

Thank you thank you Lord! This was my B-D wish today!!!! I pray our Marine veterans escort him home in the honorable way he deserves. Barky Boy TAKE A HIKE!

    • Happy Birthday Orangeone! Happy Christmas and Happy New Year too! 🙂

      • Orangeone

        Thank you kind sir!

    • Happy Blessed Birthday sis!! xoxoxo

      • Orangeone

TU Sis, got what I wanted, Jon Hammar is coming home!!!!

    • celestiallady

Happy Birthday – have an awesome day.

      • Orangeone

TU ma’am!  My blessings are everyone in the Scoop community!

    • 4Hoppes2

Happy Birthday Orangeone, What a great idea, it would be beautiful if the Patriot Guard Riders formed up to give this Marine a well deserved Welcome Home.

      • Orangeone

Anyone on Scoop have connections to the Patriot Guard Riders??????

      • Orangeone

Thanks my friend, I found them on Twitter and tweeted them to see if they might do so!

        • That’s a wonderful idea! Hope they do so! He deserves it! If NObama comes by trying to steal credit again, they just just all just ride on past him… Nothing to see there!

          • Orangeone

Please tweet @thePRG . Maybe if they receive enough tweets they can find a way to make it happen! Are you following @iResistAll on Twitter? He’s leading the charge

            • Done and done! 🙂 I saw your recommendation I follow him when I was reading back over your tweets this morning. He’s following me now too.

              • Orangeone

I posted the website on this thread too, it’s just up.
Oh, the power of our active and retired military 🙂

    • poljunkie

      Happy Birthday!

I’d take you out for lunch but you’re too far away!!

      • Orangeone

TU, you are so very sweet! An extra prayer and as our sis ABinC suggested a little yellow for Jon Hammar to go with your REDFriday would help!

    • colliemum

A very Happy Birthday to you, Orangeone, and many many happy returns!

      (Very rare!!!)

      • Orangeone

That got the Brit in my dancin’ this morning, thanks ma’am!!!

  • After not speaking out in Public about the tragedy I am sure that Obama will now take full credit for his release.

    • elbee2012

And what if he had spoken, or acted? You’d probably still be deriding him, even though Jon Hammar’s mother and buddy were begging Obama to get him out of his pickle.

The Warren Zevon song isn’t “Send lawyers, guns and money… and the President of the United States.” I know a handful of people myself who’ve found themselves locked up in Mexican prisons, sometimes for completely fabricated offenses. They knew how corrupt the Mexican authorities are when they crossed the border. And they all took their medicine, faced a judge or paid a bribe to the Federales. Not a single one cried for POTUS to come save him.

      • A lump of coal in your sock.

        • poljunkie

          Thats funny right there.

        • elbee2012

I’ve been on the Naughty List for decades. I could run the Titanic back and forth across the Atlantic with what I’ve gotten over the years.

          • And the icebergs?

          • poljunkie

Thats a lot of coal. Did you know the Titantic started off their voyage with close to 6000 tons? (My son did a report on the Ship when he was in Grammar school!)

        • Orangeone

Post of the day! 10,000 likes from me

          • I can tell you’re in a really good mood because of the news of Jon Hammar! But then who wouldn’t be! 🙂

            • Orangeone

You soooo deserve those 10,000 likes and title for that post Wolfie!  You knocked it clean out of the ballpark and didn’t need a bat to do it either.

              • (blush) If you say so! 🙂

      • poljunkie

        “sometimes for completely fabricated offenses”

        just sometimes?

  • While I am so glad to hear it, I’ll save my cheering for when he is back in the US. Please Lord, let him be home soon!! Thank you!!

    • celestiallady

      I agree – I don’t trust those people.

      • marketcomp

Especially since he has been there for 4 months and neither Obama or Hilary done anything to get him out. It wasn’t until the citizens got involved and brought this story to the forefront! This is so ridiculous. I cannot beleive this man, Obama, was reelected! This man is a disgrace to the American people!

    • Orangeone

I’m going to tie an extra yellow ribbon for that sis!

  • c4pfan

I would like to thank the actor, Gary Genese (sp?) who was out there actively getting people to know about this!

    • Bill O’Reilly was doing a far job as well hammering away from his soapbox on The Factor.

      • poljunkie

As much as I criticize Bill when he goes “soft” politically, I have to give him credit when he gets behind a cause- he sticks with it.

        I commend him.

      • Orangeone

        That’s great to hear Wolfie!

    • Orangeone

So true! Gary Sinese has been all over Twitter as well as other social media. He is a great supporter of the Disabled American Veterans organization as well.

      • poljunkie

        I love Gary Sinese!

        He rocks.

        • Orangeone

I just tweeted him and thanked him for speaking up for Jon Hammar!  We do have some in Hollywood that put America first and they need to know they are appreciated.

          • poljunkie

            Thats true.

Thank you for thanking him. He has been vocal for years. Decades. AND he does it because he loves to be a voice and also to interact with the men and women of our Armed Forces.

            • Orangeone

ABinC posted the link to his great foundation too!

    • Gary Sinise is AWESOME! He loves our troops and does a lot for them.

      • Orangeone

Think that just might be my nonprofit selection for 2013 sis!

  • o/t, Sorry, but can’t wait for the open thread, so just wanted to wish all my friends here (and Scoop! 😉 ) a very happy Christmas and a peaceful, prosperous and happy New Year!

    • poljunkie

You too Wolfie. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

    • Orangeone

And to you and your family Wolfie!

    • colliemum

Same back to you, dear Wolfie, with knobs on, seeing that the World hasn’t come to an end!

      • Just saw someone lamenting that the world didn’t end because it means we might indeed be stuck with NObama for (I can’t bring myself to type it) but… 4 m or e yea rs… I could type it if I didn’t have to read it… 🙂

        • colliemum

Never mind not typing/mentioning this dreaded time span. Remember this:
God’s mills grind slowly, but they do grind exceedingly fine.
The POS will get his comeuppance, sooner rather than later – because God will not let evil grow unrestricted.

          • Amen colliemum, Amen!

        • gunclinger

but…but….I spent all my retirement and ran up my credit cards to their max!!!

I can’t believe they LIED to me!

          • It was weird. I read a news article that said that suicide hotlines were getting in more staff to cope with the calls. I was thinking… What? They want to kill themselves? They can’t wait 3 days? I know I shouldn’t joke about this topic, but since we’re all still here I suspect a lot of them are probably happy they are too!

    • nibblesyble

      You too Wolfie!

    • Same to you Wolfie! Have a Blessed Christmas and safe New Year!!

  • poljunkie

Fantastic news. Im so glad he will be home for Christmas.

    What a gift.

PS. Personally, I’m glad Pres 0 didnt have a hand in his release.

    • It is fantastic news!

By the time the media are done spinning this, NObama will have personally charged down the gates of the prison, took on all the guards, beat them all, grabbed Jon and threw him over his shoulder and charged back to the border on foot!

      Just wait…

      • poljunkie

A small correction, if I may::::

Everything you said—But Michelle will carry him out, in a tank top- showing off those fabulously toned ARMS.

        • LOL!!! There’s a mental image it’s going to take several strong drinks to wipe! 😉

          • poljunkie

            I thought you’d like that!

        • colliemum

She’d be better off toning her glutaeus maximus!
(Not that we would want to see the effects, thank you very much!)

          • poljunkie

Personally, from my own workout experience, arms and legs are easiest to see results.

But the “tuckus”…takes a lot of work.

            • colliemum

See – right there you have the reason why Moochelle ‘does’ her arms but not her behind: ‘work’ is a four-letter-word to any socialist!

      • nibblesyble true!

    • tinlizzieowner

I’ll bet money he will say he did.

      • poljunkie

He’ll probably have him to the White House.

        • tinlizzieowner

After what his parents have been talking about on Fox about the reluctance of the government to do anything, I’d be surprised if he accepted the offer.

          • I’d love to see NObama extend an invite to create a photo-op and the family turning him down flatly – “You didn’t help and you could have” or some such… That would be a just fantastic!

            • Orangeone

That has got to be captured on video and viral on You Tube!

          • poljunkie

If it were us- WE WOULDN’T.

But then- My family is different like that. We don’t fawn over “celebrities”.

There are a some stand out people in bands, and a handful of politicans we like, but the rest…meh…if we bumped into them in Safeway…we’d probably keep walking.

            • tinlizzieowner

I’m the same way. Precious few politicians impress me. I’d trot through dung to meet Col. Allen West but that’s more a military thing than it is a political thing.

              • poljunkie

Yes, we’d shake his hand, thank him for his service.

Its so funny, I’m friends with a gal that works at our local market and when I run into her, she always gives me the low down on “who” was in.

Shes always; oh my gosh, oh my gosh: guess who was here? Nicholas Cage!!!! Michael Moore!!! Curt Shilling….Brad Paisley….She’ll say, I had to run to the break room to get my phone, so I could take a photo.

                I’ll be thinking why?

When she said Michael Moore, I said- you took your photo with Michael Moore?
(Shes more conservative than I am) She said, yes, I used it as one of the photos on my family Christmas cards.

I might have said hi to Brad Paisely but I probably wouldn’t have even recoginized him.

              • sorry,but that made me lol. 😀

                • tinlizzieowner

Well, I probably would have to ‘trot through dung’ to meet him, when you consider he’s usually surrounded by liberal protesters.
                  😉 😉

                • Too true lol. But, I’d be wading through it right along side if I could! 😀

          • Orangeone

Very true and I think his mom will give Barky Boy a verbal dressing down that the MSM could never cover (not like they would) because it would be a series of beep, beep…beep, beep, beep….

            • tinlizzieowner

As military or ex-military, If he were to just ‘respectfully decline’ to meet his Commander in Chief, those 2 words would say all that needs to be said.
              😉 😉

              • Orangeone

Kinda like CrumbandGetIt did to Joe Biden during the campaigning! Their biz is booming and they’ve expanded to include nationwide shipping 🙂

        • gunclinger

wouldn’t it be funny if he “politely” declined?

          • He should rub his nose/eye with his middle finger when he’s doing so like NObama does when he mentions Republicans*.

  • Orangeone

Free Jon Hammar website is up:

  • bjohnson55

How long do you think it will take for Obama or her Thighness Clinton to get in front of this and take credit? I say twenty minutes.

    • You mean hitlary will get off her deathbed to bring Jon home? What a patriot! GAG.

      • Yeah… I got a bad concussion a few weeks ago and I was fine after a couple of days. I slipped on the driveway, hit my head, knocked out, bad bruise, new scar, headaches, feeling queezy… For a few days I thought I had trouble finding the right words or getting them in the right order… But then better I got that after! 😉

  • marketcomp

This is fantastic news! But I will not be comfortable until he is on US soil! No Thanks to Obama or Hilary Clinton!

  • Philo Beddoe

There will be fanfare when he comes home, watch the announcements from Washington.

The release will be used to cover another oppressive policy being proposed

  • Sober_Thinking

    Thank God!

Mexico IS corrupt. While I’m glad there was some internal pressure exerted by Mexican businessmen… this was a corrupt travesty from the beginning.

  • ‘Notorious drug controlled cartel prison’ and we leave our borders open to a corrupt country and government that is out of control why?

  • 911Infidel

I hear that Duncan Hunter has been all over this issue trying to get this Marine released. If so, kudos to him.

    • Affirmative.

Duncan Hunter Jr. is my Congressman. I live in his district in San Diego. We also happen to be friends with his family. In fact, we’ve been friends with his family since Duncan Jr was in middle school.

Duncan Hunter (both Jr and Sr) has been all over this epically asinine situation from the beginning — literally day & night — putting just about everything else he has cookin’ on the back burners until this is resolved.

  • CG patriot

This is wonderful news. It’s my understanding that there were private citizens in Mexico who were behind this movement to return US Marine Jon Hammar. That in it’s-self helps restores some of my faith in humanity. For even in a third world country such as “Mexico” there is also hope. As for our esteemed POTUS: and I use that term loosely’ this captivity should have never come to this and for any of our citizen’s who are being held captive foreign or domestic.

Shame-on this administration and God help us America.

I’m happy for Mr. Hammar and his family. No doubt a very Merry Christmas gift to them and to all their prayer’s that have been answered.

as a side note, and once again, we need to ready our-self’s for the fake and pompous PR in regards to Mr. Hammar’s return. ~Let there be no-doubt~ that President Narcissist will be front and center and that he deserve’s all credit and any accolades in regards to Mr. Hammar’s safe return.

“At that point………. I will have to excuse myself from speaking any further on those thought’s”

I thought for awhile I was gonna have to get some vets together and go down to the local Mexican consulate and burn their damn flag or something. I think it is no thanks to Obama either, if he is released. It is because of threats to their piss poor economy.

  • For Caucasian Americans jailed in Mexico’s jails and prisons — it is truly the stuff of nightmares.

Don’t get your hopes up too much.

Mexico’s notorious for announcing the ‘releasing’ of jailed Americans only to renege on their ‘assurance’ and they’ll delay releases for weeks — or even months — then they blame it on their judges and courts. The fact of the matter is though — a ‘ransom’ must be paid in every and all scenarios involving imprisoned Americans be it a legitimate arrest or not. ‘Not’ way way more often being the case.

Although in this case — as in very few other cases in recent memory — it may be high profile enough that they’ll keep their word.

I know. I live in San Diego and it happened to me personally once after years and years of going to Mexico with zero problems or issues down there. I’ve never set foot in Mexico since — and I never will again.

Flatfoot, you are correct with what you have shared. In Mexico everything has a price on-it. Mexico is all about extortion, and gaming off American’s is nothing knew. You right about this case being high profiled. Never enter a country and think because we are American’s, that fact automatically makes us safe…..? nothing can be further from the truth. The mere fact a person/ or person’s from America makes us their number one target. It’s all about money.

Oh you can bet that there’s some ‘Mordida’ rapped up in this release somewhere.
‘Mordida’ (the bite, in English) is a Spanish slang word for bribery.

  • I’ll feel better once he’s back safely on US soil. I don’t trust the Mexicans as far as I can spit, and that ain’t far.

That’s good but this will always be my favorite.

These little ‘cuties’ are what those of us who have been in combat went to fight for. To see that they remain in ‘the land of the free and the home of the brave’. 😉

Love that curmudgeon, Billy O’Reilly …a fine BROTH of a Fox Cable lad..and let’s not forget his enablers, Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes.
stepping in for the Two AWOL, “Kraven Kreeps,” hiding – in – the- hinterlands”eg:
Hillary: the 2016 candidate for any of the following: President; Ambassador to Benghazi; Queen; or, restoration to the Staff of the Nixon Watergate cmte. from which she was fired for various nefarious contretemps; and

Barry, “Br’er Rabbit” Obama: that matinee Idol of the 99%; architect of many mansions of revolutionary endeavor and obviously too preoccupied with his current commission to unchain an ex GI (only a marine corporal) for fear Mexico might shut off the Niagara of northbound illegals needed to collapse the tents of the stateside bourgeoisie…. and eventuate a final transition to a, “Banana Republic”, electorate.
Third term? Bet he retains Hugo Chavez as consultant-in-chief.

Great news. He’ll have a nice Christmas.
Now I’d like to know WHEN Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl — a POW in Afghanistan since Memoiral day 2009 is coming home.

Great tweeted a little over a half hour ago that Jon Hammar has been released from the Mexican jail. I’ll try and monitor for updates and post back on this thread.

That was quick. She just tweeted that Jon Hammar’s attorney just called her and he is in the UNITED STATES
