BREAKING: Oregon Shooter’s Cause Of Death Ruled Suicide

Moments ago officials in Roseburg, Oregon held a press conference to discuss new details in the Umpqua Community College attack. Among the many topics discussed was the death of the murderer during his confrontation with police. According to the Sheriff, the medical examiner ruled that death a suicide.

“I have been asked to release the following information by the Oregon State Police on behalf of the Oregon State Medical Examiner. The medical examiner has determined the cause of death of the shooter to be suicide. the Oregon State Police is conducting the investigation on the officer involved shooting.”

Later he was asked to clarify and added only:

“I can tell you that as those two officers arrived at the scene, there was an exchange of gunfire, the shooter was neutralized at that point in time, and as far as the very specific information regarding whether it was an officer’s bullet or his own bullet, we aren’t prepared at this time …”

So it would appear that he did shoot himself, but the Sheriff was not prepared to say whether that was where they consider the rampage stopped, or whether he was first stopped by an officer’s weapon and then committed suicide. Still, with the medical examiner ruling it a suicide, it seems clear that at least that office considers the cause of death to be the shooter’s bullet.
