Classy move:

BREITBART: In the aftermath of Ron Paul’s despicable tweet today slamming US Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle, murdered on Saturday while helping a fellow soldier learn to cope with post traumatic stress syndrome, Paul’s son, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has told Breitbart News exclusively, “Chris Kyle was a hero like all Americans who don the uniform to defend our country. Our prayers are with his family during this tragic time.”

I used to be a rabid Ron Paul supporter in 2008. It's a shame Ron flipped his wig. What a terrible loss to our nation.

Poor Rand - this is called CYA - 'cuz he's trying to be somebody's party candidate for Prez in 2016.............. good luck with that....loser

I do like Rand and his actions as a Senator are much needed but being circumspect in language can hide deep beliefs. I don't believe in this particular instance he was just being circumspect but overall I doubt very much his beliefs are that far from his fathers. We can't afford an isolationist any more than we can afford the communist we now have.

I like Rand Paul much better that his Dad.

I have to be honest...Rand's father Ron is a nutjob and has James Jones, Heaven's Gate and Manson type followers; rabid loons.

On the other hand, I can't think of anything I've heard from Rand that I haven't agreed with or thought was an honest position for him to take...quite unlike his dad.

I could be wrong; obviously I haven't heard EVERYTHING the guy said. What I have heard in various interviews has been genuine...he doesn't strike me as a phony hypocrite like daddy Ron.

Good for Rand.

We are not responsible for what our parents or our children say or do ( even though often times we'd like to think we can control them, and hope we have great influence over them).

Glad Rand Paul showed some class and respect, unlike his idiot father.

What he wrote was bad enough, but the sentiment was despicable. This man fought for our country and our freedom. Ron Paul must be senile. He should apologize to Mr. Kyle's family.

Ron still was the best candidate last time around, even after all this that I disagree with.

It is a mega pet peeve of mine that people want a child or a parent to react to something the other does! Ron Paul is the person who said it and is the only one who should be questioned about it!

Ain't gonna happen. It delights the press to much.

Ted Cruz is still #1 in my book.I just wish he was my senator.

Just think. It's quite probable that Rand Paul and Ron Paul could be opponents in the next Republican Presidential Primary :-)

Thanks Rand. Every now and again, one of my three sons have to clean up for my stupidity too. BTW, today, the government sent me a letter saying that my DD 214 was incorrect and that they had made a mistake. They deleted my BSM with one oak leaf cluster, and made it a BSM with two oak leaf clusters. WTF

I'm not one to hold kids responsible for parents or parents responsible for kids, ie Reagan. But this answer was not sufficient to address the horrible remark his Dad made. This was a PASSIVE response. Not something a leader would say. Just something a politician would say.

If it had been someone other than his Father I expect we would have heard more. I haven't seen him back down from controversy before. What would you have said publicly about your own Father. I think he handled it diplomatically.

I am not sure about the disconnect between Rand and his father, however hid father made a despicable statement today about a fellow Texan, and veteran.

Well he is part of the cookie generation, kookie father on one side and a son on the other recently arrested for underage drinking.....

John

Are you saying it skipped a generation?

Orangeone

Time will tell on that for me. But what I do know is that he has a lot to deal with on either side of his generation. Cookie generation I guess is the new term for those with both kids and aging parents to care fore.

Thanks for the insight. Duncan wasn't the one in recent trouble, right?

John

Rand has three kids, the middle one (Duncan) is the one I have hopes for... but let him go to college first. It's a long term project.

Of course he was a hero! That is obvious!

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT YOUR KOOK FATHERS STATEMENT? That is the question that needs to be asked by our so called conservative media.

Why didn't Breitbart insist on getting an answer to THAT QUESTION I wonder?

The issue is not whether Kyle is a hero. He is, and it is obvious to everyone except the kooks. The issue is what does Rand Paul, who may want to be POTUS, think about his father's lunatic comments?

This quote to Breitbart does not answer that question. It just states the obvious that kyle is a hero. My hunch is that Rand does not want to anger his dad's kook supporters.

I am glad that Rand had good things to say about this hero. However his voting on issues frustrates me to no end.Why on earth would he vote yes for amnesty?

Laurel
Laurel

That will sink him more than anything his Father could ever do.

57thunderbird

I hope he has a change of heart on the matter.

cabensg
cabensg

Change of heart or change in his heart. That's the question.

Laurel
Laurel

Me too. Call his office and write him and put some pressure on. You don't need to be in his district for that. The fact that they are relying on Napolitano and DHS to certify border when she has been caught lying repeatedly about it is beyond a scam. It is willful blindness and misuse of the public trust with the intent to deceive.

MissMyGuy

What "vote" on amnesty? It is all just talk and political posturing right now.

There hasn't been a vote on amnesty.

Rand cannot own what his father believes. Ron can do his son and the rest of us a favor and go into retirement, it is past time Ron.

Conniption Fitz

I certainly do not believe what my father or mother did - quite the opposite.

Jenny5426
Jenny5426

He did retire. But apparently it hasn't stopped him from tweeting. I don't really think Ron means to be a malicious person. After all, he's a veteran. But he's so unfiltered and doesn't think about how offensive his comments come across. He should shut up for his son's sake, though.

tshtsh
tshtsh

He is probably jealous of his son.

cabensg

He doesn't have to think about his remarks because they are what he believes. Just because he changes them doesn't mean they weren't an honest statement to begin with.

bjohnson55
bjohnson55

Agreed, he really needs to shut his mouth.

cabensg

As offensive as his remarks were it's better we know. Just as I'm appalled and angry about what Obama says it's better it be in the open so we can judge the content.
