CORRECTION: CBS News was WRONG, Trump did NOT lie about Hawaii hotel

So I guess CBS News couldn’t be bothered to contact the Trump campaign before running this story. Now they have egg on their face and the rest of us look bad for trusting their erroneous reporting.

Trump, as it turns out, did not lie about employing people in a Trump hotel in Hawaii. He has a management contract with the hotel and most certainly employs people there:

Hope Hicks, Donald Trump’s communications director, clarified Donald Trump’s relationship with the Hawaii hotel bearing his name. “He licenses his name for millions of dollars, meaning he has no downside but a lot of upside. There’s no risk for him, he makes a lot of money doing that,” she told CBS News.

“And he also has a management contract with the owner, so he’s the operator of the hotel. And it’s operated by Trump Hotel Collections, meaning that when an employee gets a paycheck, [it’s from] Trump Hotel Collections. He manages the property. He employs the people that work there.”

Great job CBS News. Great job.

Ugh.

Trump will apparently say anything and take credit for anything, even if he has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Here’s what he said yesterday on Twitter as he was trying to convince Hawaii voters to vote for him:

But CBS News says this is absolutely not true:

There’s one problem here: Trump does not own the Trump International Hotel Waikiki Beach Walk. The Trump company is not involved in any way in selling or developing the property. Here’s the disclaimer at bottom of the hotel’s website:

“Trump International Hotel & Tower® Waikiki Beach Walk® is not owned, developed or sold by Donald J. Trump, the Trump Organization or any of their affiliates. Irongate Azrep BW LLC, the owner and developer of the property, uses the “Trump” name and mark under license from Trump Marks Waikiki LLC, which license may be terminated or revoked according to its terms.”

Trump doesn’t even own it, he just licenses his name. Somebody else does all the hiring and firing and yet Trump takes credit for it.

What a jerk.
