Chick-fil-A not responsible for Chick-Phil-A day in support of Phil Robertson…

Apparently some group out there has created Chick-Phil-A day in support of Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson, calling on everyone to eat at a Chick-fil-A on Jan. 21st while wearing camouflage. According to TMZ over 40k people have committed to this.

But Chick-fil-A tels TMZ they are in no way sponsoring or affiliated with Chick-Phil-A day.

The Chick-Phil-A campaign is picking up steam on social media … encouraging people to eat at Chick-fil-A restaurants on January 21st while wearing Duck Commander or camouflage gear to show their support for the “Duck Dynasty” star.

A Facebook page for the campaign says, “Stand for free speech. Sit for good food.” So far, more than 40,000 people have already committed to participate

But despite the fact Chick-fil-A knows a little something about anti-gay marriage controversies, the restaurant says the event “is in no way sponsored by or affiliated with Chick-fil-A.”

I did some digging and found that Biz Pac Review is reporting the Facebook page for this event was created by the co-founder of Liberty News:

“Chick-Phil-A National Support Day” is a Facebook page and event started earlier this week by Eric Odom – cofounder and managing director of LibertyNEWS.com – and others, solely “from a grassroots view” to urge support of “two of the biggest brands to have, in recent history, come under fire for sharing an opinion on personal faith-based beliefs:” Chick-fil-A and Phil Robertson.

I’m not exactly sure how they boast more than 40k in support considering they only have 19k likes on their Facebook page, but according to TMZ it’s picking up steam as it spreads through social media. So who knows how big it gets by January 21st. Either way it doesn’t sound like a bad idea in support of Phil Robertson.

UPDATE: I now see how they boast over 48k who say they are going to support Phil Robertson. They have created a separate event page on Facebook here.
