Democrat to black pastors: There’s a right-wing conspiracy against blacks to take voting rights back to 1900 and before

G.K. Butterfield, House Democrat from N.C., actually told black pastors yesterday that there’s a right-wing conspiracy “alive and well” to take voting rights back to 1900 and before, and that this could have dire effects on black political empowerment. He goes on to claim that if these laws were in effect in 2008, Obama would not have become president:

The problem isn’t really voter-ID laws, it’s the fact that Obama’s policies have been so detrimental to the black community that some blacks are likely to sit this election out. If you remember, the Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus said late last year that if Obama weren’t the president they would be marching on the White House. The same article notes that Maxine Waters said this a month before:

“We’re supportive of the president, but we getting tired, y’all,” Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) said in August. “We want to give [Obama] every opportunity, but our people are hurting. The unemployment is unconscionable. We don’t know what the strategy is.”

That’s what all this hyperbole is really all about. Once again Democrats are trying to blame Republicans for their failed policies, just as Obama is trying to do to a Republican House. It’s another year of ‘blame Republicans’ since they don’t have George W. Bush to kick around.

But I am a bit concerned as to where all this hyperbole will lead once the elections are over and Obama has lost. Will there be riots in the streets because Obama was swindled out of the presidency by the sneaky right-wing? This is something that I hope won’t happen, but given the already violent Occupy movement and the outrageous lies being told by the highest levels of our government, it’s hard not to think that the day after Obama loses there won’t be more violence.
