This is stunning and might be the best indicator of where we really are in Obama’s economy. I mean, they say we need x amount of jobs just to outpace population growth but in Obama’s economy we can’t even grow enough jobs to outpace people signing up for disability:

INVESTORS – More workers joined the federal government’s disability program in June than got new jobs, according to two new government reports, a clear indicator of how bleak the nation’s jobs picture is after three full years of economic recovery.

The economy created just 80,000 jobs in June, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday. But that same month, 85,000 workers left the workforce entirely to enroll in the Social Security Disability Insurance program, according to the Social Security Administration.

The disability ranks have outpaced job growth throughout President Obama’s economic recovery. While the economy has created 2.6 million jobs since June 2009, fully 3.1 million workers signed up for disability benefits.

In other words, the number of new disability enrollees has climbed 19% faster than the number of new jobs created during the sluggish recovery. (Even after accounting for people who left the disability program because they died or aged into retirement, the disability ranks have climbed more than 1.1 million in the past three years.)

And the disability ranks will continue to swell. In just the last month, almost 275,000 put in applications for disability benefits. Experts say that more people try to get on disability when jobs are scarce, and changes to eligibility rules enacted back in 1984 have made it far easier to qualify.

In addition, while job growth has been very weak during the recovery, the total number of people who’ve dropped out of the labor force entirely has exploded, climbing 7.3 million since June 2009, an IBD analysis of BLS data show. Some of them aged into retirement, but most either signed up for disability, stayed in school, moved back in with parents, or just quit looking for a job.

Obama administration also loosened eligibility rules and is actually encouraging people to apply for disability. Perhaps he is aware that you can’t have a bunch of overflowing homeless shelters and tout how good the economy is. The image doesn’t work.

Pandering for votes thats all hes doing…

Homeless shelters? Why, I haven’t seen anything about a homeless problem since Bush was president…oh, that’s right…never mind. If Romney gets elected, I’m sure the MSM will start reminding us of it again.

Oh, but the left says we have to do this because the world hates us. Obama makes them love us.

Our country is becoming destitute, and our government has become a corporate global shill. We have no currency, and will soon have no more illusion of a republic where people have individual rights.

I’m a physician who gets hounded for disability BS from perfectly healthy but lazy patients and I guarantee you there are “I’m too depressed to look for work” claims that will guarantee you a lifetime of benefits. I’ll repeat that: a lifetime.

    • kong1967

It gets very frustrating to see all the money being spent and then you look at all the fraud. I am a firm believer that well over half of government funds are wasted because of fraud, political pandering, and other such nonsense. I’d be willing to go as high as 80% waste (bureaucracy).

I live in a senior hoousing unit full of young worthless crybabies. They don’t even respect the older people let alone all the free stuff handed to them by various agencies.

    • librtifirst

Right now, those benefits actually help people survive. Sometime soon, they will not. A worthless private currency that our government forces us to use, will negate those benefits.

  • kong1967

In my opinion there are a lot of people on disability that shouldn’t be. I know of a guy (that acts completely normal) that will play any game you bring out and know all the rules and play the game with strategy like everyone else, yet he’s on disability because he cannot learn basic tasks. Bull, if he can play games he can learn how to do a job on an assembly line. I have also seen several people on day-time court shows that are on disability because they can’t get along with people. So what? That’s a personal problem and you should suffer the consequences for not behaving yourself.

My sister is on disability because of a head-on car crash, so I’m not bashing all recipients of it. Just trying to point out that fraud floods all of our government programs.

    • DebbyX

So true. I knew a guy who walked with a cane for years because he was on disability. As soon as he got to retirement age, miraculously, the cane disappeared!

I guess that’s why they’re called the Golden Years.

      • kong1967

He must have paid a visit to Jerry Falwell and got the golden miracle of healing.

    • WordsFailMe

That guy you’re talking about, is that Obama? Could be.

      Or will be.

  • jackl92

According to the President, we are heading in the right direction. God help us.

This is the third year in a row Obama has said, “Don’t read too much into those job numbers.” He has said this approximately 30 times since his election.

    • WordsFailMe

Far as I am concerned, in addition to the man’s innate lack of imagination and intelligence, he’s a pot head stuck in time. He still thinks he’s in year one of his administration. He is totally unaware that he is repeating himself.

He is totally unaware that he is repeating himself.

This is sad, no one from either side is outraged by this? We need better Senators, they let this corrupt administration do as it pleases.

Like LtCol West said Obama wants to make us all his slaves….to government. This is the pixie dust-unicorn Messiah’s handiwork. The promise of Hope N Change looks more and more like Dope N Chains each and every Business Quarter.

Standing in line at an event recently, two young men behind us had the following conversation, with no shame about people hearing what they said:
Guy 1: “Did you hear? Sue went back to work today. She took that job.”
Guy 2: “She could still be on unemployment.”
1: “Yeah, for about another year, but she’s from that generation that believes in hard work.”
2: ” Not me (chuckling). I’ll take government benefits as long as they give ‘em to me.”
    1: “Same here.”
They actually were mocking “that generation that believes in hard work.” Their exact words. My wife came close to turning around and giving them a lecture about the good old American work ethic, but she bit her tongue. Obama takes joy in creating a dependent underclass that has no pride in work and no shame in not providing for themselves or their children.
When the unemployment runs out, I’m sure these guys will find a way to get on disability. Is chronic laziness a disability?

(I’ve posted this same story on other sites today because people need to know our nation is truly at a crossroads with this dependency mentality. We need to fight it.)

The TV stations have attorneys ads running constantly down here to qualify you for SSI/Medicare. Then you also have 1-800-ask who ever, for your $10000.00 medical expense’s if you have been injured in a car accident. They can also direct you to an attorney if you need additional compensation.

Another step toward total state domination, according to the CLoward-Piven Strategy, that called for “overloading the U.S. public welfare system in order to precipitate a crisis that would lead to a replacement of the welfare system with a national system of a guaranteed annual income and thus an end to poverty.”

obama’s goal, well the goal of all communists, every person works for the government. Liberty loving TEA conservartives; every person is the government/hires representation and works for themselves. A fine line of distinction, ideologically a world apart.
The progressives have made it easier than it ever has been to get on the government payroll, enslavement without a struggle.

  • aZjimbo

And just how many of these disability claims are real?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jude-OConnor/100002766170448 Jude O’Connor

The picture shows the line for disability and most look like they never let the chicken and biscuits pass them. If the media is going to show desperate people one would think of people that looked gaunt and in need of food, not these people.

No doubt about it. I filed a workman’s comp claim for a broken wrist. It healed pretty well but of course will never be the same. The lawyer I hired asked me if I wanted to go on disability, like it was a foregone conclusion that I would get it. I told her I would rather work and went out and got a job.

There is no shortage of jobs. There is a shortage of people who want to work. My first experience with unions in the early 60’s was their insistance that members who were tired of working apply for State Worksmen Comp. The Fed expanded the program filling up the Senior retirement program with malingerers.

So, while doubling the recipients in Social Security, the clowns in Congress approved a decrease in the contributions those still working make to this already financially strained program.

Is it any wonder why most of us still able to mentally compute no longer respect those we sent to Washington.

Where do you find articles showing that the eligibility rules have been loosened. My research shows that the rules were significantly changed in 1984, but it didn’t effect the numbers until the economic downturn in the 90’s. I’d love to be able to support Laurel’s theory with articles, etc.

  • mdstaz

I’d love for someone to share some proof that the Obama adminstration loosened eligibility rules. My research shows that the rules were eased in 1984 last. Please post information backing up this claim as I can’t substantiate it at the moment.
