Paul Ryan felt so strongly about what Trump said this morning in his presser with Putin that he issued a statement defending our intelligence agencies and refuting the president:

Here’s what he said:
“There is no question that Russia interfered in our election and continues attempts to undermine democracy here and around the world. That is not just the finding of the American intelligence community but also the House Committee on Intelligence. The president must appreciate that Russia is not our ally. There is no moral equivalence between the United States and Russia, which remains hostile to our most basic values and ideals. The United States must be focused on holding Russia accountable and putting an end to its vile attacks on democracy.”
Not only does Ryan defend our intelligence agencies, including the House intel committee, he reminds Trump that Russia is not our ally!
There is no moral equivalence between the United States and Russia, which remains hostile to our most basic values and ideals.
I think that line was aimed at Trump’s tweet this morning where he blamed the US for our ‘bad’ relationship with Russia.
Paul Ryan isn’t the only one issuing statements today. DNI Dan Coats, who was referenced by the president in his remarks this morning, also just refuted the president:

Yep.
It’s saying something about Trump’s comments that Coats and Ryan would even release their statements today, as Trump is on foreign soil and it’s generally not appropriate to criticize the president when he’s not here.
