FACT CHECK: Romney right that Obama made major cuts to oil permits both off-shore and on-shore

Chris Wallace presents the numbers that show Romney indeed was correct during the debate on the major cuts to oil permits by the Obama administration:

Here’s the fact checking on this debate –

    1. Your monthly spending on gasoline exceedes your monthly car payment.

    2. You are probably filling out multiple job applications each week because either you don’t have a job or you are looking for a better job after accepting something to pay the minimum of bills.

    3. The President’s immigration policy seems to be “arm the Mexican drug cartels so that they can kill other Mexicans and prevent them from crossing the border.”

    • Please don’t keep repeating the same comment everywhere. I saw this on another thread already.

      • theDUHgeneration

My apologies Scoop. I wondered if it would get burried in the other 2 threads and thought I’d give it one more try. And as I rarely get an opportunity to join in the fun on your great site, maybe I got a little over zealous this time. Won’t happen again.

        • thanks for your very direct, truthful, and insightful comment.

We know many families that are having trouble paying the bills and can’t find a part time job. every week our family helps with a few can goods and we have pitch in an purchased a couple of coats and a couple pairs of shoes to help out. All of us have had to cut back things we enjoy doing just to save a few dollars for these families. One child is a special needs child that goes to the doc on a regular schedual so the mother and father really do appreciate any help they can get. lives in obamaville couldn’t make it if the few of us hadn’t heard about them from another friend and jumped in to help. We didn’t want to see that family living out of their car, or have to break apart.
I hope all of us remember our friends and families who need us everday but especially during the approaching Thanksgiving and Christmas season. It’s really amazing how doing just a little something can mean so much.

I haven’t the time to read through every thread to read every comment, so glad you posted your comment here.
looking forward to reading your future comments

  • Boy Obama has a really tough time looking Romney in the Eye. What does that tell you. He’s lying. They need to get a real good fact checker in on what Obama’s actions and Body language says. That will be a real winner.

  • toongoon

Unfortunately we have to fact check. This is common knowledge, Obama has invested our children’s lives in bankrupt “green”energy and trying to convince us that it is a good thing.

Complete Second Presidential Town Hall Debate 2012 Romney/obama

  • sjmom

Romney wiped the floor with Obama on energy tonight. Mitt was strong on a number of things and energy was one of them. Drill baby drill!!!!!!

    • PVG

And remember BO said that gas prices are high cuz the economy is doing so well!????? WHAT?? Gas prices were low back in 2008 because the economy was bad…yeah, that makes sense. Do we want this moron for another 4 long years? I still cannot believe he is so inept. It is stunning!

      • His point about our importing less oil was humorous. Economies around the planet are importing less oil, because they all are in collapse.

        • I shouted it at the screen…..it’s because people don’t f’n got a job to drive to work for.

      • librtifirst

I was thinking that it would be the longest four years yet. I thought that the Clinton years would never end. Then I thought “the last four years went really quick”, because there was so much negative stuff happening that I could hardly keep up with it, and time flew by.

      • the idiocy of that statement is beyond my imagination, but our MSM urinalists will let it slide….

      • username_1

Actually according to economists, gas prices were down in 2008 because there was much less demand. People began to find alternative means of transport because the prices were so high, so they had to come down. Now that demand is increasing, the cost is increasing – that’s simple economics. No President can really affect oil prices, they are generally driven by the global market.

      • username_1

Actually gas prices decreased in 2008 because the demand decreased. Prices were so high that people actively began finding alternative means of transport so the prices had to come down for companies to remain solvent. Many companies shut down filling stations etc as well. Now that demand has increase, prices are increasing, this will no doubt lead to another cycle of increase/decrease as well. No president can really affect the price of oil. It is driven by the global market not the government.

  • librtifirst

Obama still gave out permits, but he cut “new permits” by 62%. They failed to make that distinction. I AM NOT defending Obama, just noticed the discrepancy.

  • 3seven77

Of course Mitt was right about the permits. I have to say I enjoyed seeing Presnit Bumbleschints getting all pissy about it. Little touchy about the truth there Barak?

But I really wanted to see Romney hang Solyndra, Fisker Karma (the expensive Finnish-made electric car that lights itself on fire), Abound Solar, A123, etc. around Obama’s neck like millstones. A nice recitation of the hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars flushed down the toilet through Obama’s “green energy” schemes would have been “the cherry on top”.

    • Yeah, that would have been nice to see.

    • librtifirst

He could have won that argument, and probably the debate, with those specifics.

    • the profitability of those “green companies” is not in his plan – the kickbacks are.
The h*ll with: workers, taxpayers’ money, creating new energy.

  • The simple and depressing fact is: lies and lying often work.

That’s why our side has to work harder and be better.
To overcome unfair advantages like those on display tonight.

  • colliemum

Good for Romney, not letting Obama get away with trying not to answer the question.

Bad for Obama, using finger-wagging (like your typical muslim Imam) to support his lies.

  • Rocco11

Obama still has his Muslim ring on..

    • SoLongSong

I think that was debunked, that it’s more likely just a common Kenyan design (something along those lines).

Of course, he’s STILL a Muslim at heart (in my humble o).

      • “The sweetest sound I know is the Muslim call to prayer” – Barack Hussein Obama

  • The people who really understand this are in the states bording the Gulf of Mexico. After the BP oil spill, Obama and the EPA basically shut down most oil production in the Gulf and certainly did not encourage new drilling permits. People know the truth and will vote accordingly, especially in the Gulf states.

  • Sober_Thinking

Obama is again trying to play on fear and lies.

We all know he lied about being pro oil or coal. We know his completely misrepresented his “accomplishments” and improvements with oil production. We know that his green initiatives have been a complete failure. We know that he is not pro free market. My concern is that the average American doesn’t know how badly Obama lied if he/she just relies on this liar’s words.

And repeatedly Obama fell back on those tired, false accusations that Romney if for “big oil” and corporations. This boogie man approach to smearing and campaigning is ridiculous and old… and it contradicts dear ruler’s assertions back in 2008.

    Obama has nothing… nothing.

  • denbren52

Romney should have said that Obama kept one promise when he said that his policies would result in “necessarily higher energy prices” referring to higher prices for energy created by fossil fuel to pay for green energy. And then slam him again for the many failures in the world of green energy.

  • Gee what was that story about cutting oil in half in Alaska I read just day before yesterday on Drudge.

C’mon Obama! People can be dumb and fooled but not all of the time, and not on every single issue.

  • RosiesSeeingRed

What is really great about last night is that even though people don’t like it when the two candidates become confrontational, the two most confrontational moments last night were the Libya moment and this moment about the wells, both of which have been proven to be lies on Obama’s part. The MSM cannot ignore these two moments because that’s all everyone is talking about, so now they have to talk about the LIES. Ha! I LOVE IT.

Obama’s knee-jerk reaction to the BP oil spill shut down most of the drilling for a significant period of time and stopped all pending and new permits, resulting in the loss of tens of thousands of jobs. Every time he talks about saving the auto industry, I just WISH Romney would retort that while he was busy saving his union-buddies’ jobs, he had no problem wiping out the livelihoods of tens of thousands of people along the Gulf Coast who directly or indirectly were impacted by his moratorium!!!!!

  • US foreign policy? Behind our backs!
“The source, who remains anonymous for security reasons, said a three-person delegation of the Obama administration led by a woman engaged in secret negotiations with a representative of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The delegation urged the Iranian leader to announce a halt to enrichment, even if temporary, before the Nov. 6 election, promising removal of some sanctions.”

  • Bryan Ewbank

“two men interrupting each other” – yes, the moderator FAILED.

  • sjmom

Though not major news right now Obama refusing oil permits was news not long ago. Remember when he defied the judge’s order in the gulf region? Don’t remember all the particulars but do remember what I thought at the time and it was centered around his hubris.

  • NYGino

Romney’s adversaries last night were Obama, the “Independent and undecided” audience and Crowley. This we assumed would be so and it turned out it was.

One of the most blatant examples of this, and I have not heard it addressed although I could have missed it somewhere, is the question posed to Romney dealing with how he differs from former President George W. Bush. (remember Crowley picked the questions to be asked).

These questions were to be answered by both Romney and Obama so as to get a picture of how these two men think and what their aims and actions will be should they win the 2012 Presidential election.

This question put all the onus on Romney and none on Obama.

    • DebbyX

But I think it was during that discussion that Barry almost HAD to compliment Bush. I heard something to that affect on Rush today (or somewhere).

  • PFFV

The Obots don’t see the lies of Obama and they say he won this debate, unreal!

  • DebbyX

It was truly disgusting listening to George Stephenpuffandstuff this morning on Good Morning America, just glowing about how his guy did such an outstanding job. They showed short clips all of Barry seeming to make a point when the only point he has is on his head!

Q1: If 0bama can run on his record, why is he attacking Romney personally?
A1: He can’t because 0’s record stinks for our nation on so many levels.

    Romney-Ryan 2012 !

Q2: If 0bama knows how to fix the economy, why has he waited four years to do it?
A2: This is a trick question. He doesn’t know how. He’s never run a business, city or state, never managed a budget. His lifetime income has been at the expense of the taxpayer. No amount of years could fix his policies.

    Romney-Ryan 2012!
