FIRST ROUND: Egyptians approve new Sharia-based constitution in a very close vote

I don’t think any of us doubt that Egyptians will ‘approve’ the new constitution, but in the first round of voting it was closer than some expected:

EGYPT INDEPENDENT – The Freedom and Justice Party reported that semi-official results, based on 99.2 percent of polling stations, show 56.5 percent of voters approving the constitution and 43.5 percent rejecting it. …

Initial results estimate voter turnout at around 30 percent of eligible voters.

Constitution Party head Mohamed ElBaradei, who also leads the opposition National Salvation Front, tweeted on Sunday, “The nation gets more divided and the state pillars are falling.”

Mohamed Adel, a leading member of the April 6 Youth Movement, said the percentage of voters who rejected the constitution, 44 percent, is high, and stressed that there is a great split in the Egyptian street over the draft.

This percentage shattered the dreams of Islamists and Muslim Brotherhood, according to Adel, after nearly half of the Egyptian people rejected the draft constitution.

The movement released a statement saying that it would continue to call on citizens to vote “no.”

“Members of the movement have begun to intensify their activities and they are confident in their ability to reject the draft constitution,” it said.

“It is unreasonable in a respectable country that a constitution could be passed with almost a 44 percent rate of rejection,” Adel added. “It is a very high percentage, even when only 31 percent of those eligible participated, and despite violations by the Islamist current and attempts to convince voters to choose ‘yes.'”

The second round will happen next Saturday.

Let ’em have it. Good grief.

  • Well, the Egyptian people wanted the Muslim Brotherhood and now they got it. As Egypt turns into another Iran, I hope the few pro-west secularists in Egypt (all four of them) find another country to live in, because they certainly won’t be welcomed in Egypt.

    • warpmine

Thing is I don’t think they wanted either but just like this country, the corruption seemed to win out.

  • 911Infidel

The Eqyptians vote in the Ikwan, and then when he turns into Pharoah, they come out in protest. What’d they expect from the Ikwan anyways: Democracy? LOL. Morons.

The people of Eqypt now get to reap what they have sown. The new dictator is the same as the old dictator, only this one is more ruthless.

    • Conniption Fitz

Evil is always ‘progressive’ it gets progressively worse…it’s virulent, malignant, aggressive, destructive.

      • PAWatcher

Right on Conniption, and unfortunately it’s (progressive mental illness) taken hold of both parties elites, the UN, and most foreign leaders. Hopin We have a big enough antidote for at least the US………We have the formula- Our Constitution, now if We can start to use it instead of letting it be tread on.

    • 12grace

It seems voting in Egypt is as corrupt and fraudulent as it is in America.

G-d help and protect the innocent people of Egypt that did not want this new dictator to be installed.

      • 911Infidel

There aren’t too many innocents in Eqypt. All the polls that I’ve seen indicate that 70%+ want Sharia law. Its the Copts and the few secularists that are most at risk. Copts were forbidden to vote in this referendum on Sharia law for example; which is in keeping with Islamic law that makes all non-Muslims second-class citizens. (Ref: Sura 9:29)

Yes, Christians and Jews are being persecuted all over the world now- and not a peep from the UN run media.

Yeah the Church of the Tares isn’t helping either.

              • 911Infidel

It seems to me that discernment and wisdom are in short supply these days. It is the reason why the Warrens, Hybels and Stanley’s (Andy) are able to deceive so many.
The solution is so simple. If any man lacks wisdom let him ask for it. Solomon…young Solomon… led the way in this regard. It is disconcerting, but not surprising that so many in the Church body, remain lost and ignorant.

The Church of the Tares iis is an apostate blight on the Body of Christ. They’re no better than the gnostics of old.

  • Deleted – oops posted in wrong thread. Moved to right thread.

  • The Muzziecuddleclub (AKA Muslim Brotherhood) won’t be happy or quiet until they are running Egypt regardless of the outcome of elections or polls.

    • Orangeone

Now that was funny! How can you fit that great description into a tweet?

      • Ha! Thanks! I managed to tweet it. I removed “or quiet” and it fits. Tweeted now, thanks for the suggestion! 🙂

        • Orangeone

Wish I could see it but I’m in the gulag…..and Kong joined me today 🙁

          • gulag? And kong? What happened?

            • Orangeone

Kong ticked off a liberal over the 2nd Amendment.  I’m not sure about mine but I did use Barky Boy when @BarackObama was in the reply….This is Kong’s 3rd gulag visit and my 2nd

              • I’ve not even heard of the gulag before. Do you get your account back or do you need to open a new one? 🙁

                • Orangeone

Well sometimes they set you free, other times not….I think there were alot of suspensions going on because of the gun control debate. Libs will flag you if you disagree with them. I’ve sent a few libs to gulag but they were the ones threatening Michelle Malkin and Ann Romney

                • You can flag comments in twitter?

                • Orangeone

It’s pretty complicated.  Go to their profile and there is a way to flag them for spam….It’s otherwise cumbersome to report them…..

                • Sorry you and Kong are in the gulag. I hope you both are “released” soon. I have to go off for the night now, hope you are all back out of jail and fighting the good fight again soon!

              • 12grace

I have to laugh when I read your term ” Barky Boy”. Love it.

    • toongoon

Sounds an awful lot like Democrats.

      • Orangeone

I vote best comment of the thread!

        • toongoon

          Why thank you. ;-D

    • 12grace

The Muzziecuddleclub – I love the term. Smile.

Do you mind if I use it in future descriptions of this group?

  • sjmom

If 43% of the people voted against the Constitution then the unrest is not even close to being over. Egypt will continue to be a hotspot in the ME.

    • Orangeone

Something must have gone wrong with the Soros vote counting machines to permit 43% through. They’ll have it “fixed” for the next vote.

      • It was probably a translation error. Soros said let the opponents win 4 or 3% and the programmers thought he said 43%. You’re right though, they’ll have that fixed soon and nobody will question where the 43% opponents vanished to when the results show 98% support for the muzzies.

        • Orangeone

I hear Kerry’s on his way to advise them 🙂

          • Marridge

Lurch had better like everything to do with islam.

            • Orangeone

And Mrs. Lurch too.  I wonder how the Muzziecuddleclub (AKA Muslim Brotherhood) [thx Wolfie] likes wealthy women…..

              • 🙂

              • 12grace

My sides hurt, I am laughing so hard about all these funny ( and appropriate) descriptions…

                • Orangeone

There are many, many great scooper descriptions.  Hopefully you saw ABinC’s Ketchup Boy!

            • 12grace

              Lurch! LOL!

          • 12grace

Great Point, O. kerry is on the way that’s comforting ( sarcasm)

  • Islam_Sucks

When do they start tearing down the pyramids?

    • PAWatcher

Did the Jews have a hand in building them? Then consider them gone by islamic decree or something like that I think. But the egyptians want full credit for them… the new islamic government may make mosques of them after their conquest of egypt.

  • Conniption Fitz

Sharia = hell on earth – especially for women and children.

    • Marridge

      You forgot the goats.

      Oops, sorry. Couldn’t help myself.

      • 12grace

        LOL! Sic but amusing.

  • These Egyptian folks don’t know what they are getting into. Oh well. It looks like it will be harder to see the Pyramids in the future. Pfft.

    • True. they can kiss their tourist revenue goodbye, unless people want to experience a real life pharaoh (oh joy!) -_-

      • PAWatcher

We’ll make it up in foreign aid, to be sure. Where do you think all the new money from those rich people is going to go……….to the WHOLE WIDE world of course! along with lollipops, gumdrops and singing around the camp fires for everyone in the new utopia the rich will pay for. What a plan DC elites have going, can’t wait for the money to start rolling in. sarc, sarc

    Egypt is lost…

    • Orangeone

Egypt is an opportunity once a Republican is POTUS. The Egyptians have more access to world happenings including what freedom really is. By 2016, we will have a solid conservative in the White House and will work to undo the islamic damage Barky Boy and his minions tried.

      • Sober_Thinking

        I respect your optimism…

I just think that where Muslims are involved, evil will use them like cannon fodder and Obama will simply cheer them on. By 2016… well, the Lord may be back before then…

        • Orangeone

The Lord is in the hearts of those that will set the moooslim back decades.  It is always darkest before the dawn.  I look at it this way, the Nazis were defeated after all they had done, all the mind control they had succeeded with and America isn’t even close to reaching the top of the drain let alone the trap in the piping.

          • Sober_Thinking

Between you and the positive message from Sarah Palin… it’s hard to be pessimistic. 🙂

  • Rshill7

If Obama has a mandate these folks have at least a blind date.

  • Well I hope the Great Sphinx is not a female, otherwise shes gonna be breathing in the hot sands through a burqa from here on.

  • Nukeman60

I can hardly wait till Kerry is appointed SoS. Dressed in his Burqa, he can bow to the Sharia-run Egyptians and ask them how many more Abrams tanks they will need against Israel. Oh, and btw, would you like us to throw in a couple of nukes while we’re at it? Seems we have far too many for the UN’s liking.

  • Even if it’s close it is good news. it shows that some good seize number of Egyptians really do want some form of people representation, and don’t want to trade one dictator for another, and are willing to fight for it.

  • repubboy

Well Mr. Obama how do you like those apples !! Your buddies the Muslim brotherhood get exactly what they were driving at the whole time.. So kiss your young democracy good by.. Oh and by the way keep arming our enemies and it will come back to bite you in the A..

The Muslim Brotherhood Are Turning Into Lennists In Islamist Dress – Egypt Is In Real Trouble

At the end of his blog post, Mr. Johnson writes:

Back in 2001 the Iranian sisters Ladan and Roya Boroumand wrote a seminal article, “Terror, Islam and Democracy”. They warned that Islamist political movements, including the Muslim Brotherhood, confront the West with “Leninism in Islamist dress”. Once again we confront “a power that saw itself as God on earth, organised as an all-powerful state, denying the right to individual belief, and reserving the right to define truth about and for the individual”. It is time to see the Brotherhood plain. And to start playing hard ball on behalf of our true friends in that part of the world.
