FISA amendment in Senate has loophole you could drive a MACK TRUCK through – Mike Lee

Mike Lee is not happy with the latest iteration of the FISA Act in the Senate that was advanced last night via a vote to stop debate. Lee voted against cloture and explains why:

Mike Lee says that the way the Senate is amending the FISA Act doesn’t protect the privacy of American citizens because it has a mile-wide loophole in it. He explains that some of the protections that have been added only apply if there is a predicated investigation. But Lee argues that there are many stages of an investigation at which those protections would NOT apply.

Lee makes clear that he doesn’t want to end the FISA Act, but just reform it. And he says there are good reforms that would still allow the FISA Act to protect Americans from those who want to harm us. But those reforms weren’t even allowed to come up for a vote in the Senate, he adds, disappointedly.

Just FYI, here are the Republicans who voted NO last night on cloture:

Cruz (R-TX)
Daines (R-MT)
Gardner (R-CO)
Heller (R-NV)
Lee (R-UT)
Moran (R-KS)
Murkowski (R-AK)
Paul (R-KY)

There were a number of Democrats who voted with them, but the Senate got the 60 votes they needed to advance the FISA Act for a final vote.
