In a really bewildering segment on “The Five” today, the supposedly objective election reporter for Fox News Carl Cameron absolutely defended the Trump campaign, and called Cruz and Kasich “dumb” and “desperate.” Cameron was amazingly and brazenly pro-Trump.

First, Cameron takes on the embarrassing Politico report that there’s turmoil in the Trump campaign after Manafort took control but was then demoted when Trump decided against his message of toning down the campaign. Cameron tries to explain it all away, saying that it was “ridiculous” for anyone to think that Trump was going to “stop calling someone names” like Manafort said – but isn’t it foolish for Trump to hire a guy who did that, and then walk it back? Not according to Cameron. He calls it smart politics!! Apparently it’s stupid for anyone to point out the gap in Manafort’s rhetoric and how Trump completely rejected it.
He then launches into the Cruz-Kasich truce, saying that it’s not “unprecedented” that campaign “conspire behind the scenes” – but they had PRESS CONFERENCES about it!! It wasn’t “behind the scenes” at all!! Again, by using the words he’s using, he’s helping push the Trump narrative that people are secretly conspiring against him. IN press conferences.
He goes so far as to say, “it was really dumb politics” and, “it looked desperate” when Cruz and Kasich had their press conferences 16 minutes apart. Huh? What’s the approved non-panicky time for them to separate press conferences? It was just weird how he blatantly used Trump narratives and talking points, even parroting the “desperation” line.
I’ve never thought Cameron was biased, which is why this segment threw me for a loop. I guess we can expect more of this Trumpian “objectivity” from Fox News reporters…
