60 Minutes put together a report on the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut. The most compelling portion of the report is hearing from the school nurse what happened as the shooter made his way through the school building. At one point, as she hid under her desk, she saw the shooters legs and feet pointed in her direction for only for a few seconds before he moved on. She then hid in a closet for around 4 hours before finally opening the door to a state policeman.

They also spoke to neighbors of Adam Lanza’s mother who told them that taking care of Adam was a full time job, that his mother described Adam as being disabled with Asperger syndrome. She also home-schooled Adam which is why he wasn’t in high school very long. She also loved target shooting which is why she legally owned the guns that were used in the shooting.

I feel like a coward, but I just can’t watch this. I appreciate the run down you gave on it Scoop. Perhaps later, but not now…

    • colliemum

Yes – I’m feeling a bit fragile right now as well, and can’t bring myself to watch this at the moment.

      I will do, later.
Thanks, scoop, for putting this up.

  • toongoon

I don’t like hearing that Adam Lanza was home schooled. It creates another target for the left.

  • sDee

Adam Lanza’s father is vice president of taxes for GE Energy Services. Basically, the guy ensuring GE pays no income tax – including all the green slush GE got from Obama..

James Holmes father was FICO scientist and developer of securities fraud software. He was scheduled to testify on the LIBOR scandal.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/CZSU2D67ODNZOKEZYHXONQ4F5Y John

Lanza not a Tea Party member??? Whatta disappointment, right, left???

      • Orangeone

And both Lanza and Holmes have 1% parents…..

    • Orangeone

Maybe if daddy paid more attention to sonny boy instead of Barky Boy and evading taxes, sonny boy would have received the proper mental health treatment he needed and the tragedy would never have occurred.

I do not want to sound like a conspiracy theorist but these two fathers having connections to the administration this way frightens me. Barky Boy oversees the Securities and Exchange Commission who investigate securities fraud……

I’m with Nibblesyble. I just can’t absorb all of this now.

Haven’t had the news on at all, save for some stories online at the UK’s Daily Mail. Theirs seems to be the least sensationalistic.

I just can’t stomach FOX, the alphabet channels or the blogs with the 24/7 coverage. All a bit much for me.

    • Orangeone

Might you share the UK Daily Mail links with us when you are okay reading their coverage. It’s enlightening to see how other parts of the world interpret what the US’alphabet soup media slant for their agenda.

      • Linky1

just Google “Daily Mail” to find the online paper. It’s good, solid coverage, minus all of the politicizing that’s going on over on this side of the ocean.

Also, try SUN News from Canada. I’m Canadian and this is my news source – haven’t watched FOX in close to six weeks and I’m not missing much.

        • Orangeone

Thank you for the info and it’s very nice to post with you at Scoop!  I used to read Financial Times when I traveled to England and I still miss it….

          • Linky1

I have borrowed your term for Obama-Barky Boy. That’s a classic.

OK, Commercial is over, back to Christmas Vacation!

            • Orangeone

Did you see ABinC and me today?  Ketchup Boy and Barky Boy

              • Linky1

No, this is the first I’ve been near the sites today.

                • Orangeone

We were cracking up a bit on the Kerry thread…

        • GretaN

But HOLY FREAKING CRAP – the comments from people (liberal Brits) on the Daily Mail articles are unreal!

  • Nukeman60

I watched Obama’s speech at the memorial tonight. I can almost understand the applause he got, but what puzzled me was the encore he took after he left the stage. Rather strange for a memorial, if you ask me.

President Obama, this is really not about you. It’s about those 26 brave souls who are lost to us. Please try to remember that.

    • Orangeone

It’s always about him, narcissism cannot ever take the back stage.

      • Nukeman60

Hey, Orangeone, what firestorm are you and I going to stir up tonight? We sure got them going yesterday, didn’t we. lol.

        • Orangeone

And we survived to fight for liberty another day didn’t we!  It was great to have your company yesterday :)
I was thinking of stirring things up on the Westboro thread but I only saw one poster I wanted to jab a bit but decided to give AmericanBorninCanada a light night of moderating :)

          • Nukeman60

Yeah, I backed away too. Seemed like there were a lot of new people jumping into the fray and I also decided to make a short night of it. :)

            • Orangeone

I think there were a lot of liberals on that thread trying to stir things up.  The connection between this kid’s father and Holmes’ father to Barky Boy is frightening!

              • Nukeman60

There are a lot of connections that the LameStream will designate to ‘conspiracy’ status. From “Fast and Furious” right down the line. I think I’ll start a dossier on each of these occurrences and see where it leads. We suspect (God forgive me for saying this) that there will be more in the near future. We are under full attack.

                • Orangeone

Great idea. Might want to collaborate with tinlizzieowner, he’s a journalist!

    • las1

I just counted three “I’s” in a short ten second clip from the Narcissist-in-chief. High pronoun density being one of the unmistakable indicators of narcissism.

I refuse to hear any more from a man whose MO on this is the demagoguery of “never letting a crisis go to waste.” We’ll have to stomach his Democrat Media Complex in high gear for the next three months on this.

There is a lot of information contained in this video. Two or three items stand out to me.

    1. The lock down procedures as described are currently changing in many schools throughout the mid-west. Since Columbine and the attacks at Virginia Tech, the old way of thinking has come under heavy and deserved scrutiny. The old method was to sit quietly in a locked room hoping the intruder can’t break through the door. Once through the door the intruder is in total control as the instruction to teachers and personnel is to hope mercy would be shown, and in essence becoming victims. The new mentality has been to be more aggressive in our defense. Instead of just sitting, move, run, attack if necessary. Throw desks, books, back packs, anything to distract and possibly injure. Why should the students and teachers be the only ones threatened with possible injury?

    2. The information now being disclosed about the mental instability of the shooter throw possible motives completely out the preverbal window. There will be no doubt closer looks taken at possible bullying and new efforts to be even more blinded to problems hidden under guise of tolerance and acceptance of behavior that can be problematic. Tolerance should be given to any child for a host of issues; financially less advantaged, attention deprived, special educational needs, emotionally challenged, autistic and simply mentally challenged children. Great care must be given to children who fall in these categories as these children can react very violently; often without warning. I have been witness to and involved with several incidents where a child had to be restrained due to emotional outburst.

    3. While there were no mention of or call for more gun control in this 13+ minute video, they did in soft language point out the volatility of the guns used. The population of the United States who cling to the idea of guns kill people fail to attach the gun to the means necessary to kill, that being the person behind the gun. The video did point out that the town of Newtown CT has some of the most stringent gun laws around, which for most logical thinking people knows the result of such thinking; the more you disarm law abiding citizens, the more victims you create.

One last thought, if you are a parent, and you haven’t visited your child’s classroom; other than opening night or for conferences, then go. If you get there and you have to wait for the teacher to open their LOCKED door, you should at least tell them thanks. Thank them for doing all they can to keep un-wanted people out of their room. This tragedy proves that we never know when something evil will happen. This tragedy also proves we can’t be like an ostrich; that is put our heads in the sand and hope. When it comes to the safety of our children, we must be like the tiger; sharp fangs, powerful jaws and a will that says we will destroy those that intend us or our children harm or sacrifice ourselves for the cause.

still lost for words, bless these dear survivors.

I thought the most compelling part of this was at 10:30 in the video:

“Motive is still a mystery. But if anyone can begin to understand an attack like this, its Robert Fein and Bryan Vossekuil. In 1999 they went into prisons to interview and study assassins and would-be assassins for the U.S. Secret Service.

Then in 2002, the Secret Service published their follow-up study on 37 school shooters.

Scott Pelley: Robert, you’ve been speaking to people who are involved in the investigation at the highest levels. And I wonder what they’re telling you about these early days.

Robert Fein: Fundamentally, what I hear is that this is a very complicated case. A very difficult, painful case that’s going to take a long time to really unravel and understand.

Scott Pelley: What are they saying about precedents and how this compares?

Robert Fein: On the continuum of lone-offender attacks, this case is described as way out there on the continuum in terms of awfulness.

They discovered that most attackers followed a discernible pattern of behavior for weeks or even months before the attack. They call it “the pathway to violence.”

Scott Pelley: How does this pathway to violence manifest itself? What is it that people can look for in– in a person who is on this pathway, as you describe it?

Robert Fein: People who engaged in these attacks took a series of actions as in often selecting a particular weapon, sometimes practicing with a weapon. They thought, “I’m desperate.” They accepted the idea that violence might be an acceptable way to solve their problems.

Scott Pelley: In how many cases did the shooter tell someone essentially what he was planning on doing before he did it?

Bryan Vossekuil: In almost all of them, the student who committed the attack, the school shooter, communicated, in many instances, the– his intent to commit the attack.”

THIS is the part that needs to be discussed; how to recognize the warning signs. If the pattern is there – and these investigators say it is almost every time – we are fools to ignore them.

Every single gun control law is a REACTION to a crime that’s already been committed. We need to be proactive. If that means keeping an eye on someone, or informing law enforcement about things that don’t seem “kosher”, then we need to do it.

One thing the press can do is quit making “legends” out of people like this. Have you noticed all the copy-cats who are threatening violence out there in the past few days?

  • http://www.facebook.com/paul.christian.942 librtifirst

I find it disturbing that these behavioral investigators neglected to mention one common thread in all of these shootings.

    Psych drugs.

    • http://navalwarfare.blogspot.com/ Libertyship46

You know, that’s a very good point. In all the reporting that I’ve heard, this is the first time I heard that the shooter was on medication. OK, what TYPE of medication was it, how much of it did he take, and how often did he take it? More and more kids are going on this stuff. Perhaps he was having a bad reaction to it? It seems too much of a coincidence that he would have a psychotic event like this AND be on drugs at the same time. I hope we hear much more about this in the coming weeks.

      • http://www.facebook.com/paul.christian.942 librtifirst

I don’t think that the MSM is going to look for it or report on it, and the mother is dead, so we may not hear about it specifically. I found this video interesting.

  • Myptofvu

Wow that’s some hard hitting journalism. They were able to find and interview someone who sat behind him in class 4 years ago!! And they were also able to uncover that he had the almost unheard of fear of public speaking. I don’t know what they pay these guys at 60 mins but its not enough. These guys are like Super Sleuths.

  • jcrouse22

Couldn’t they find one of the heroes instead of a coward who chose to hide in a
closet 4 hours after the shooting stopped? From the looks of her, she has already
lived most of her life, but chose self preservation over all else!

  • colliemum

One very important book which came out this year deals with the background to the question of why so many of those mass murderers have been recognised as being mentally ill by people in their neighbourhoods and communities, but why nothing was done about it:

“My Brother Ron” by Clayton E. Cramer.
You can get it as an e-book, and it is very affordable. A must read, and it points the finger rightly at the civil liberties and other leftie campaigns to deinstitutionalise the mentally ill from the 1960s onwards.
Gun control has nothing to do with this.

  • 12grace

If the government takes away the Guns from Americans, we will see worse atrocities than Sandy Hook, throughout America, on a daily basis.

My prayers are with the families and friends of those innocent people killed. This is tragic.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/44F4AB4VSCTOCHBMBG4ZWWD5OU Laurel

And yet we have the UK reporting that the mother was a ‘prepper’ and made her out to be a nut.

Nice job media. You never cease to sicken me.

  • sickandtired

The tragedy here is that the news people and the politicians intend to use the murder of innocents by a madman into a political move to further an agenda of theirs.

They should ALL be so ashamed!!! I can’t any human being could denigrate the lost lives of so many children like that! What has America become?
