In a segment on Morning Joe earlier today, New York Times reporter Eliza Griswold tried to explain just why it is that Christians are being persecuted so harshly in the Middle East. I’m pretty sure we can guess what side of the political spectrum she lies on, because she immediately answered that Christian persecution can be traced back to George Bush, and right-wing Christians.
No, really this happened.
On national television.
Watch:
Griswold was actually challenged on it on the twitters:
@elizagriswold starts off appearance on @Morning_Joe by blaming Christian persecution on Bush. So unexpected from the @nytimes

One unintended consequence of the 2003 invasion of Iraq was the departure of hundreds of thousands of Christians https://t.co/VgAtk0r1vv

@elizagriswold @Morning_Joe @nytimes it appears to be a reflex action among your colleagues to provide cover for @POTUS whenever possible
— Peter V.S. Bond (@PVSBond) July 22, 2015
@elizagriswold @Morning_Joe @nytimes by using "Bush" in your intro, you queued the audience to ascribe blame for everything that followed

Yeah pretty much. While it’s good for the New York Times to do a huge story on persecution of Christians, it seems like their real intention is to define the boundaries of the conversation so that conservative American Christians and George Bush are to blame instead of the people actually doing the persecuting.
