Graham pushing bipartisan ‘Dream Act’ amnesty bill for illegal alien minors

Lindsey Graham has been pushing for this for a while, and it looks like it’s getting some traction.

This would cement Obama’s Dream Act that was passed by executive action and could be rescinded by Trump at any second – making it even more odd that he hasn’t in all his six months in power.

From McClatchy:

South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham and Illinois Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin plan to re-introduce a version of the long-stalled DREAM Act, hoping to provide a lifeline to young immigrants who are likely to lose their special protected status because of a court challenge from Texas and nine other states.

“We’re working on it,” Graham said Monday. “We’ll see.”

Graham said they’re still working out the details, but those familiar with the proposal said the goal is to introduce something similar to the Dream Act that would grant legal status to young people brought to the country illegally as children. They’re hoping to introduce the legislation on Thursday.

Immigration advocates have sought to pass the bill for more than a decade, but members of Congress have never been able to get enough support to pass the measure.

There is a new urgency to pass the measure now that the fate of the Obama-era deferred action program known as DACA is in question.

This has a better chance of passing than people think – Americans are much more sympathetic to children who were brought in to America illegally than they are for people who themselves come here illegally.

BUT if they’re going to do this, they really should push for some concessions on the other side – let us go after illegal aliens more, if we’re going to concede some legalization for illegal alien minors. AND make this a one-time shot, not a new program to act like a magnet for more children to cross illegally into the U.S…
