This ad is going around quite a bit tonight as most people find it, well, a bit lacking:

I hope this isn’t how he plans on beating Obama. Or for that matter anyone else.

This ad was done over a smoke break-literally. Pull the ad Cain, and make some good vicious ones against Romney.

Oh, Smoke a cigar during the making of all future ads- it takes longer AND looks better.

    • Anonymous

      Oh oh, “smoke filled rooms”?!

oh c’mon. this is a YouTube parody. It is a YouTube parody…right?

This ad is going to give Romney pains from laughing. What the heck is going on?

      • Anonymous

Romney needs some “pains” to sober him up and stop with the theatrics during debates as he stutters requests to be heard as though he hasn’t already been given more time than other candidates during the debates (“it’s my turn to talk, it’s my turn to talk, it, it’s, it, it’s my turn to talk, it’s …..”). The whole Romney v. Perry thing is foolish and now there’s talk of a Lincoln/Douglas styled debate!!!..with only Newt and Cain??? Lincoln???…maybe Oldsmobile! My inner conpiracist whispers to me that it could end up as a way for Newt to act as a promotional tool for Cain and enable Cain to appear more substantive and “gravitas-sional”. However, I fear that it would actually appear as faux-profunditutionous…Where’s Reagan. Where’s Patton. Where’s my remote?? I

        • Anonymous

Mitt Romney cut his losses the last election and this time I am afraid he is going to buy the office. I hate the way this election has turned out, Mike Pence was my first choice followed by Sarah Palin and now It has come down to voting against candidates instead of voting for them.

          • Anonymous

Well, just don’t vote for Romney-period.

  • zytekfan

    I have a feeling this truly isn’t an ad…

    • http://www.therightscoop.com/ The Right Scoop

      It’s from TheHermanCain’s YT channel.

      • Anonymous

As long as there are not ads with people on the can.

      • zytekfan

Surely with the money the campaign has raked in, they could have produced something better…

I’m hoping for something better soon, anyway.

edit: If Cain wants to bring down the house, he needs to make something like Reagan’s “Morning in America.”

    Was that Inspector Clouseau…?

Mr. Cain , you can do so much better, C.K. and K.R. are going to point to this ad as proof of their accusations that you are not a serious candidate.

They will lampoon his yellow flowers ad before this one.
Cain is giving them a hell of a lot of source material.

I support cain but this ad is in “demon sheep” territory , oy

I loved the demon sheep ad. At least it showed some creativity and it’s memorable. This was horrible and, fortunately, forgettable.

  • Steven

Cain puts out another ad like this, I’m bailing.

    • Mr. EMT

      bail

run as far and as fast as you can, its only going to get worse.

      • Steven

Actually that was a fun ad. I am now over the initial shock of seeing someone smoke in an ad. It was provocative and it was simply letting Block be Block.

  • http://www.facebook.com/salvatore.anello Salvatore Anello

Absolutely awesome once again. Got one with smoking. Need a big fat guy like me eating a grease dripping cheeseburger next and then to top it off with a guy driving a leaded gasoline 74 Newport with no muffler. America F#$K YEAH!

You’re not Cain’s campaign spokesperson are you? Cause if you were, I’d say find another day job…like Mitt Romney’s campaign.

    • Mr. EMT

Sorry, cain received a bunch of donations as he gained in the polls, and some of that was from the Koch brothers.
and these two ads is what he does with their investment?

What a joke he is making out of everyone trying to support him.

Thanks for the site TannerE, very interesting. Most surprising was Ron Paul’s backers.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6OHPEHB4CY3X6GEGFS63DAC6MI TannerE

There’s a lot of terms thrown at Ron Paul like isolationist, anti-semite, etc… they couldn’t be more wrong. He’s all for a strong defense, he just doesn’t like all this pussy-footing around, nation building, and policing. He believes if you’re going to go on the offensive you need to use the full force of the military, complete your mission, and get out. Yes, he wants to cut the defense budget… but only 15% and it’s already more than six times higher than what any other country spends. Can you see why the military is in support of him? With him their missions will be crystal clear and they won’t be handcuffed in political correctness.

My God! I can’t believe Sarah Palin left us with this. Herman Cain is just jonesying this thing, kinda like Chauncey the Gardener in “Being There.” I don’t believe he thought he’d get this far in the campaign, with all the gaffes, clueless about foreign policy, flip-flops, no substance just talking points.

If this is the best we can do against Barack Obama, will the last person to leave the USA please turn off the lights!!!

  • Anonymous

Only political ad so far this year that sticks in my mind. Two thumbs up!

  • Steven

I have to apologize for my previous comment. I was short-sighted. I commented not knowing the purpose of this ad.

First, this ad is a web ad. Though web ads have increased in quality, let’s not blow their impact out of proportion. After all, how did those ads help Pawlenty or Palin?

Second, if the purpose of this ad is to introduce Cain’s campaign team, then there’s nothing wrong with it. The only problem I had was Cain appearing at the end of the ad, which was unnecessary for such an ad.

I expect we will see the other members of Cain’s team come out with spots as to why they are working with Cain. IF so, this ad is par for the course and nothing to be alarmed about.

I think those who want to weave a narrative about Cain are blowing this out proportion. It will only help Cain get more publicity and make them look petty for jumping on Cain. And for what? Because a dude decided to smoke on camera? Is that a crime?

    • Anonymous

No, not a crime to smoke on camera, but very ‘that is so yesterday’. Back when everyone smoked in the movies and on television, the health risks were unknown – it was even touted as ‘healthy’. Now we know better. Stupid to keep on smoking these days.

It was probably meant to mean that Cain is not politically correct but this is not the way. The guy with the bad teeth smoking says to me -‘stupid is as stupid does- and then with Cain showing up at the end it plays into the narrative that he doesn’t know what he is talking about. Bad add. Will be the butt of jokes.

      (I’m a Cain supporter.)

      • Steven

Yeah you’re right, if it was intended to be an ad and not just some web video. Since Cain shows up at the end of it, it makes it an official deal. But I still don’t think it should be blown out of proportion. In any case, we’ll see where this goes, but Cain is choosing the worst time to show that he’s an amateur at this.

Geez! I hate politicians and politics as usual and that’s why i support Cain. But he still has to be able to compete and do the basics! Lord..

  • Brandy Carter

Wait…is this supposed to be a nod to Cancer Man from the X-Files? If so, I don’t get it.

  • Anonymous

Forgetting everything else. Herman is a Cancer surviver and this cigarette smoking in the ad doesn’t contrast well to the least.

    • Mr. EMT

That cain, he sure does like to clown around huh?

He sure does, and I feel bad sometimes when I don’t get it. This ad is making me laugh tho, with him, of course! Lol

  • http://profiles.google.com/michael.andrew.alaniz Michael Alaniz

Well, now we all have something to look forward to. The Lincoln-Douglus style debate between Newt Gingrich and Hermain Cain. Mr. Cain against Mr. Gingrich in a debate, I think we all know who is going to win that one. In my honest opinion, I think this is going to make or break Cain in the debate. This video is awful!

    • Mr. EMT

I think we all know who is going to win that one.

Unless they waste three hours of the viewing audiences time pitching soft balls at each other, the only people who are going to win are liberal “comedians.”
Actually either way the only people going to win are liberal comedians.

As someone who is very open about everything that happens..I’m starting to lose hope. I need some people to talk me up about things. My two candidates I’ve leaned towards (bachmann at first and Cain second) have both run their campaigns into the ground. Its just one thing after another. I’ve now been blocked from posting on the herman cain facebook page I guess b/c I was a little harsh about the pro-life/pro-choice debate going on b/c of his comments on piers morgan that made no sense. He’s allowed the establishment to get a foot in the door to try to hurt his campaign.

  • http://profiles.google.com/ajtelles Art Telles

Get attention – Get em talking…

I wonder what the reason given will be?

Possibly, “hey, it’s only a legal cigarette… and it got people talking.”

Everything he said was right on, and the smoke doesn’t mean a political thing in the bigger picture.

It is still a legal cigarette, not bongos and booze and “burning the bush” at Zucotti Park.

    The ads ok.

PS. I haven’t smoked legal smoke in almost 15 years, and I haven’t smoked illegal smoke in more than 30 years.

    The ads ok.

    Art

    • Mr. EMT

I think it has more to do with cain’s stint as a restaurant lobbyist when he pushed for smokers rights and tied his restaurant lobby to the tobacco lobby.
But with cain there is absolutely no telling where he is coming from.

  • Anonymous

It’s quite nearly like a Romney conducted orchestra isn’t it? Could that really be? Shiver me timbers, and “C’mon man!”

I’m looking on the bright side though…at least the ATM machine ate my debit card today because I entered my pin # wrong 3 times in a row.

  • http://www.facebook.com/steamboat2302 Joshua Saunders

Its not the first major miss on an ad either. Nor is it the first time he looks like he’s a bumbling idiot. I’m a huge cain supporter and will vote for him more then likely, but I’d like to have someone run a campaign and not have some sort of existential crackup before it even starts. I’m so frustrated.

    • Anonymous

Yes. This reminds me of when I was supportive of Pat Buchanan’s campaign in the nineties. And then the creeping dread I felt as he donned goofy hats at various festivals along the trail and always tied his tie too short – Oliver Hardy style. These people need handlers at least to some degree so they avoid visual faux pas, or run commercials that aren’t tested. Not looking for them to aim for lowest common denominator like movie producers do, just think twice and get some qualified input. Maybe Cain can call Dick Morris, his friend, and ask, whaddya think?, before running a poor ad.

  • Anonymous

So, we’ve got the Marlboro man in this ad, and then Cain’s got that other weird video with the cowboys shooting a commercial on his site, and it makes one cringe and wonder if there’s anyone with good taste on the Cain campaign. This is absurd.

  • http://www.facebook.com/steamboat2302 Joshua Saunders

Anybody, I can’t believe that ad…and the one with that..who the heck was it actor shooting a western? The biggest thing is that he’s been very unclear. Every time he says “let me be clear” its about as clear as mud in spite of the fact that I know how he thinks on the issue via past occurrences.

    • Mr. EMT

  • Anonymous

I kinda liked it. Refreshingly anti-PC.

I humbly suggest a lot of the “cringing” comes from the way we’ve all been beaten into submission by people who keep trying to make certain behaviors socially unacceptable. Sure, smoking is probably bad (still unproven), but a lot of people still do it. Most of the guys in my band smoke, and they’re the kind of folks that work in trades.

A ton of tradesmen still smoke.

I suspect Herman Cain knows the folks he’s trying to reach.

    • Anonymous

The cringing is not from someone smoking, but how it is an otherwise talking head video, and that the one gesture that is made is with a cigarette. It is left in purposefully and yet with no purpose at all. It adds nothing but questions. It’s just weird, conjuring the cigarette man from the X-Files.
Substance-wise, it is just a bunch of superlatives about Cain in the abstract, no specific message or content. It’s really a waste of our time. Also, video is a visual medium and this is not an attractive video.

      • Anonymous

You could say that about 99% of what’s on TV, so while I understand your point, …the fact is, marketing folks know something about selling. How else to explain people watching reality TV?

    • http://www.facebook.com/steamboat2302 Joshua Saunders

I dunno about proven, but every person in my family that smoked for 20+ years have died from emphysema or cancer.

      • Anonymous

I know some folks who smoked like chimneys up until their late seventies and early eighties, when their lungs could no longer tolerate the smoker’s cough. Many of them tell me their father or mother was the same way (back before filters were common, too).

Like alcohol tolerance, there is likely a strong genetic component involved with tolerance of whatever comes out of tobacco use.

But so far, no one has found the elusive process that proves the cigarette-to-lung-cancer causality chain.

(Statistical inference is strong, and most of us feel better without smoking.)

  • Anonymous

I can see SNL lampooning this with the Martin Short guy who chain-smoked nervously and sweated profusely.

I didn’t get it at first, it’s been interesting reading comments from several websites on the topic tonight. Most thought it was great (non-traditional) and kind of poke at govt over regulation.

    OMG, I love this ad!

I usually hate, I mean absolutely HATE, political ads. You know the type, the ones you hear on the radio and TV endlessly around election time read in a sinister voice: “Mitt Romney steals from the homeless for fun, and he even sold his lap dog into slavery.”

Full disclosure: I liked the Christine O’Donnell “I’m not a Witch” ad too.

  • Michael Friesen

How odd … I’ve been warming to Cain but there are starting to be more and more oddball moments … starting to wonder about some missing common sense?

  • Anonymous

Initially I liked Herman Cain but now I think he’s in it for his book and and a tool for Romney. Cain keeps putting his foot in his mouth, starting with “right of return” months ago and now on abortion. I don’t like the way he said he would be VP for anyone but Perry, etc.
It is only amnutition the dems will use against our nominee, we do not have to have our candidates contribute to the dem ammo.

I don’t want Romney to be the GOP nominee, anyone who would impose Romneycare on the people of MA, I am one, would do the same as Obamacare. Obama said he credits Romney with his model. I heard Romney say is is unconstitutional, isn’t it the same in MA?
I know MA had big federal $$ to fund this waste of money. My state taxes went up, sales tax increased 25% to fund this monstrosity. Repeal Romneycare. I don’t trust Romney to repeal Obamacare,

  • Anonymous

Cain is a clever marketer and gets his point across with a straight forward no frills ad that is politically incorrect. Just his style. Simple message by his Campaign chief of staff saying Cain is a uniter, is unorthodox, and is not a politically correct candidate. The Cain Train is moving closer everyday to the White House, just like the ad says and what his book is about… his journey to the White House.

I believe conservatives were sabotaged by their ad people in 2010. Remember the I am not a witch ad. How about the Joe Miller Halloween ad that was reminiscent of the I am not a witch one. And then there was the Sharon Angle border ad that I think Karl Rove helped pay for. You remember, the one some thought went over the top and Angle went from up 3 to down 7 in the last week. Now this pathetic one that does absolutely nothing for Herman Cain.

May I suggest that hard right Conservatives be more skeptical of their ad people. They may be working for the Republican establishment.

    • Mr. EMT

I don’t think that advertising cigarettes in a campaign is going to fly at all.

  • Anonymous

My hopes were so high for Herman Cain, does this mean we are forced to choose from the remaining field? OMG! Paul = Nutjob, Romney = RINO with his own Romneycare to explain away, not happening. Gingrich = RINO supports RINO’s and Was All in for Cap and Tax otherwise known as Global Warming Scam, NOT! Perry really bothered me when he said Illegal’s should get state tuition tax dollars for their education. He has other baggage too, one being his lack of ability to challenge anyone in a debate. I love Michelle Bachmann but she has been demonized by the media and Hollywood elites. If she makes it to the end I would vote for her but – it ain’t happening. Santorum does say what I want to hear but lacks leadership in my opinion. Maybe that’s what is wrong with Michelle too now that I think about it, they just don’t have that leadership look or feel about them. I fear the 2012 election will be a huge bust for true conservatives. I hope and pray I am wrong but getting a true conservative candidate on the ballot looks very dim at this point. True Conservatives want a candidate that espouses what the Tea Party (majority of American’s) want. Smaller much more limited government in our lives and everywhere else. Fiscal responsibility and the ability to spend within our means. Stick to the Constitution and what the founding fathers original intent was for this great nation and we will be just fine. I hope this ad was a blunder and we start seeing Cain as our Tea Party candidate again. Continue to educate and we will still have a fighting chance in 2012. God bless true Conservatives…. peace.

    • Mr. EMT

Perry really bothered me when he said Illegal’s should get state tuition tax dollars for their education.

Perry has never said anything like that at all.
Last one I heard ever say illegals should receive free education was Ronald Reagan.
Under the Texas Dream Act illegals who qualify for college by having been in Texas schools for at least three years, have to PAY for college.
There is no scholarship or grant funding in the Texas Dream Act
There is no funding for their tuition from a single dime in the Texas Dream Act.
There is no shortcuts or path to citizenship in the Texas Dream Act either.

      Via Ace of Spades
      http://minx.cc/?post=322179

Furthermore, the problem Texans have is not from someone who is trying to obtain a higher education and going through the legal process to obtain it
Our problem is from drug and human smugglers and dope peddlers hopping across the river who have NO interest in getting a college education.
We in Texas feel if someone wants to obtain citizenship and get educated and get off of government aid that got knows how many hundreds of thousands to millions of illegals take advantage of, they should be encouraged to do so.
That is why the bill passed when Perry had been in office only a few months with 99% approval behind it.

And a little more food for thought. Had the bill not been in place, if an illegal qualified for college (there is nothing stopping them from going in the first place and never has been in any state) they would take even more funding from tax payers if they had to pay out of state rates.
Good job shooting your nose off to spite your face with that argument.

Speaking of Cain’s ads, the newest debuts today, which beats up Perry and Romney on illegal immigration:

And what, if anything, has Cain done about illegal immigration? Absolutely nothing, because he has absolutely no experience on the subject. It’s a big turn-off for me to see someone with no record of achievements on the subject of illegal immigration beating up on those who have actually had to deal with this very complex issue.

    • Mr. EMT

CNN made romney pull an add using their footage. Be interesting to see what happens to cain over it.
But yes, you voiced my sentiments on cain and immigration. He has no solutions, just pandering.

I loved it!!! I love the music at the end, and then Cain smirks! Just a funny little ad. I’m sure they’ll make regular ads but until then I thought it was funny!

I think it’s great. Definitely in the face of the PC police. Things libs DO NOT find offensive: Pooping on a police car, a dog chewing an American flag, having sex in public, violence, anti-semitism, etc… However, something that tens of millions of Americans do, smoking (when allowed by the nanny state) – is wildly offensive?

This may just connect with the tens of millions of people who smoke that have been made to feel like lepers. I noticed that they have added “mild smoking” to the warnings (such as violence, nudity, language, etc.) that they list before a movie is played. How weird is that? Even the thought of that 30 years ago would have been laughed at as ridiculous.

I don’t smoke, but seeing someone in a video clip won’t make me start. It really goes along with Herman’s advice that America needs to lighten up (no pun intended).

This campaign ad suggests an in your face to big brother to me. It was okay but not great. Cain needs to put his views out there in his own words. As far as the immigration issue goes. It is so simple. Enforce the laws on the books whatever it takes. We are a nation of laws or we are not. Start enforcing the laws and they will not be able to come here and work and they will stop coming. Since Oblamer has been in office not so much a nation of laws except the ones he agrees with sometimes.
