More on the story:

Cassidy Stay, 15, was discharged Friday “in good condition” and is “expected to make a full recovery” according to a statement from the Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Ronald Lee Haskell is accused of killing Stay’s parents, Stephen and Katie Stay, and her four siblings ranging in age from 4 to 13.

The teen attended a local community gathering for her family on Saturday with her grandfather Roger Lyons, quoting a line from Harry Potter to those assembled.

” ‘Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.’ I know that my mom, dad, Bryan, Emily, Becca and Zach are in a much better place and that I’ll be able to see them again one day,” she said.

Authorities have said Haskell was searching for his ex-wife, Katie Stay’s sister, when he came to the family’s home in Spring, Texas, on Wednesday.

Cassidy suffered a skull fracture from a bullet graze but survived by playing dead and later calling 911 to warn police that Haskell planned to shoot other relatives, investigators say.

“Without her courage and quick thinking, we might be mourning the deaths of 20 people today, including us, and nearly all of our children and grandchildren,” Lyons said Saturday.

Pretty remarkable for such a young girl.
