I don’t recognize this Republican Party anymore

Last night I decided not to watch the RNC after seeing how long Trump’s speech would be. I took a break and did some Netflix for the first time this week.

Now that I am back in the saddle, I see this clip being trumpeted by the media:

This is the founder of Paypal, one of Trump’s good friends. He’s proud to be gay and he calls the ‘bathroom issue’ a distraction from our real problems, saying who cares what bathroom you use. And the crowd cheers.

What the heck?

I don’t recognize this Republican Party. This issue is not a distraction, it’s a war. Sure, as a country we have other problems. But it’s still a war that has been waged and a war we must fight.

Why would we ever call such a thing a distraction? Are we not willing to stand up for women and children who will fall prey to those who will use this ‘distraction’ to exploit them or even worse? Why is this ok?

But even more so, why is it a ‘distraction’ to say a grown man shouldn’t be using the bathroom with women and children? Why is this ok?

Why are we saying that if you feel like a woman, no matter how you were born, you can be a woman? Or vice-a-versa? Why is this ok?

From a Christian perspective this bothers me immensely. But you don’t have to be a Christian to oppose this ‘distraction’. The common ground is safety and security of our women and children, but even that was called a ‘distraction’ last night.

Yes, I don’t recognize this Republican Party. But perhaps that’s because it’s not the Republican Party anymore.

It’s the Trump Party now.
