‘I’m not a faith-hater, I ENVY those who have faith!’ – John Stossel explains his thoughts on religion

John Stossel, the libertarian star of Fox News, took on the issue of religious freedom in America and the liberal encroachment on our liberties Saturday night on his show, and he did a really good job of laying out all the issues. At the end of the show, he talked about his own struggles with faith. It’s candid and pretty endearing.

Watch below:

I’m not sure who would call Stossel a “faith-hater,” he seemed pretty even-keeled on all issues. As a Christian myself, I do hope he finds the faith he seeks.

There is one issue I didn’t think was addressed well, and that’s what kind of faith we have. The guy on the street that simply said “it’s just a belief” when asked about evidence of God’s existence seemed to be the only view Stossel put forth on the issue. I would say that there are millions of reasons to believe in God, but there are all different to every person. On my part, I believe the beauty, goodness and love that’s built into this universe is only explained by a loving God, and the exquisite order and reason in reality speaks to a God that makes sense, that is Himself, the source of beauty, goodness, reason and order. The empty, cold, materialistic universe doesn’t explain my experience of this good world, and ultimately I think it’s intellectually empty and arrogant to believe in it. I think it’s more of a leap of faith to believe in an empty meaningless world than to believe in  God-breathed universe.

To ask “for a sign from God” is to misunderstand what faith is. He’s created an entire universe with an infinite depth of signs for us to decipher, if we only let the scales fall from our eyes. I hope Stossel finds that faith one day.
