Insulting the Prophet “has no place in freedom of thought”

Sound familiar? It should as it’s similar to what Obama said at the U.N. back in 2012: “The future must not belong to those who slander the Prophet of Islam.”

But this was said earlier today by another world leader, one who has become quite fascist in his career as leader of Turkey:

During his address, Erdoğan also discussed Charlie Hebdo. He said the magazine’s cartoons featuring Prophet Muhammad were a provocation and argued with the belief that the cartoons depicting the Prophet should be regarded within the realm of freedom of thought.

“Now, the incident in France … As you know, this magazine had elements of provocation in its cartoons, which were an insult against our dear Prophet. No one can regard this within the scope of freedom of thought. No one has the right to attack a leader, a guide of a religion. This has no place within freedom of thought,” Erdoğan said.

I know, you must be shocked that Erdogan would say such a thing. I’ll let you pick yourself up off the floor.

He also went on to rebuke France for not preventing the Charlie Hebdo terrorist attack by these ‘French citizens’:

In his remarks during an Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting in İstanbul, Erdoğan mentioned the terrorist attack on the French magazine and underlined that the Paris attackers are French citizens had served time in prison.

“These people served 16-17 months in your prisons. Why didn’t you follow these people after they got out of jail? Isn’t your intelligence working? First, these countries should check themselves. And in the end, this act was committed by … French citizens,” Erdoğan said, adding that it is the French government’s duty to find all of the reasons behind the attack.

Erdogan is like Obama in this regard. He doesn’t want to call the Kouachi brothers ‘Muslims’ so he calls them ‘French citizens’, you know, because he wants to pretend they had other reasons for defending the Prophet or something.
