Israel building massive underground wall to stop Hamas terror tunnels

This is pretty cool. Israel is announcing that they are building a huge underground wall made with sensors galore that will stop the threat from Hamas of building terror tunnels into Israel:

DAILY MAIL – Israel is pushing ahead with plans to build a giant underground wall around Gaza and into the Mediterranean Sea to stop Hamas using underground tunnels to attack the country.

Major General Eyal Zamir said Israel will ‘accelerate the construction of the barrier’, deemed necessary after Palestinian fighters burrowed into the country’s territory during the 2014 Gaza war.

General Zamir, who is head of Israel’s Southern Command, said he hopes that construction will be complete in two years.

Army radio reported that the wall, made with concrete planks and sensors, will stretch 40 miles.

It is expected to be about 20 feet high and 130 feet deep, costing close to three billion shekels (£640million).

It will also include an offshore barrier intended to stop sea-based commando attacks.

Construction Minister Yoav Galant, also a former military commander, said the wall will be built in Israeli territory parallel to the border fence sealing off the Palestinian enclave run by Islamist movement Hamas.

Israel actually began building the wall last year and is now saying it won’t just be a land wall, but will extend into the Mediterranean Sea “to stave off Hamas infiltration by sea”.

The Jerusalem post also points out that the IDF is very confident “no tunnel will be able to cross the underground barrier, which it says will change the reality on the ground for both Israel and Hamas.”.

Trump will be so jealous if they finish their wall before we even get a good start at ours.
