It begins – Jay Carney says ObamaCare based on RomneyCare

Yesterday Jay Carney was asked about a recent Gallup poll showing that a large majority of Americans believe ObamaCare is unconstitutional. His response was to remind the press that ObamaCare was based on what was once a ‘very conservative idea’ from the Heritage Foundation and that its practical origins are from RomneyCare:

Look, I think that to go back to a period that most of you covered and all of you probably remember, that during the debate over health care reform, tens of millions, hundreds of millions of dollars were spent trying to defeat it, and sort of undercutting the essential nature of what was being accomplished here, what the President was trying to accomplish.

One, health care reform, as I need not remind you now, that passed is built on what was once considered a very conservative idea. In fact, it has its origins in the conservative think tank called the Heritage Foundation. It has its practical implemental origins in the states of Massachusetts.

  • The individual mandate which was disavowed by Heritage?!? How disingenuous is this guy….never mind he is the press sec (propagandist secretary?).

Once again, nothing new here that we were not aware of.

    • Sober_Thinking

He’s simply a tool. In every meaning of the insult…

      • MiketheMarine

Yeah, a dull, rusty tool that isn’t good for any job. We’ve all got a couple of them floating around our houses. It takes a gorilla to open because of the rust.

      • steprock

I often call him “Spokestool Jay Carney”.

(Plus, it blurs together and you don’t know if I’m saying stool, or tool, so it’s a triple entendre.)

        • MiketheMarine

Wow, far to deep for me. I can’t stand the guy. To think he holds the same position as so many people I’ve admired. Ari Fleischer, Tony Snow, and Dana Perino, though I don’t care for Dana’s opinion on much now that she is speaking her opinion instead of that of her boss.

        • Sober_Thinking

It could also say: “spoke stool”, which is the crap spewing from his mouth…

          (sorry for the visual)

      • kong1967

True, and it’s possible he does not like his job or agree with anything he says. He doesn’t have to. He just has to tell the public what he’s told to.

      • NYGino

        Put an “s” in front.

    • … and the latest brief to US Supreme Court on the mandate by IJ.

    • He didn’t answer the question as per usual. I don’t give a rats whisker whose idea it was. It’s unconstitutional. I had the idea to sew Jay Carnaging of the truths mouth shut, but that would probably be unconstitutional as well.

      • NYGino

SAl, sewing his mouth shut would result in our getting just as much true information as we get now.

  • kim

    Call the waaahhmbulance for Mitt.

    • Sober_Thinking

      ROFL!!! Brilliant.

      • kim

        Uh oh, he’s whining again.

It’s very easy to excite the base with incendiary comments. We’ve seen throughout the campaign if you’re willing to say really outrageous things that are accusative, attacking of President Obama, that you’re going to jump up in the polls. I’m not willing to light my hair on fire to try and get support. I am who I am. I’m a person with extensive experience in the private sector, in the economy.

        • Linky1

“I’m not willing to light my hair on fire to try and get support…”

If Romney did that, HAZMAT would be needed to clean up the burned hair gel.

        • steprock

Sounds like John “I think Obama means well” McCain.

          ROUND TWO!

        • MiketheMarine

Didn’t we just his tax returns showing he hasn’t worked in quite a while? All his profits are capitol gains he earned from shutting down businesses. Some in trouble and others healthy.

          • BS61

I just don’t understand why he perpetually keeps running – what is with him?! He could retire with all the money he has and volunteer at a church or somewhere, but instead he keeps running for office and never winning?!

  • unclesamnephew

lies and more lies. Obama’s new chief of staff stated that “Obamacare” gives our OWS at our white is dictoral powers. enough said! treason!

  • Susanna958

That doesn’t bode well for Romney running against Obama. So much for him being the electable one.

    • Sober_Thinking

Frankly, with Maobamacare being the central issue in this election, it effectively disqualifies Romney. Seriously, he needs to drop out – he is unable to admit he made a mistake (just like Maobama) and Rick and Newt are MUCH better candidates in every way.

      • steprock

Remember that saying about people who WANT to President don’t deserve it and the ones who DESERVE it are too humble to run?

I think Mitt reeeeaalllly WANTS to be President.

        • Sober_Thinking

          Well said.

  • Sober_Thinking

Wow… nail in the coffin of Romney? It SHOULD be!!!

This is where they will go if Romney wins the GOP nomination… it will effectively neuter Romney’s attacks and make him unqualified to debate Maobamacare.

But we already knew that didn’t we?

    • Linky1

Neuter Romney….a dog analogy. Can we all put him in a dog crate and strap him to the roof of a vehicle so that a real conservative candidate can take on Obama?

      • Sober_Thinking

        Lol… brilliant.

      • Nukeman60

I think the vehicle should be one last space shuttle. It would be a fitting end to a glorious program.

    • BS61

Plus, I heard on Rush, I think, yesterday that the Republican elite have said let’s let the 20% of the party have their conservative way this time, and we’ll blame them and move to the center for 2016. They are already conceding this election to Obama! It’s us against them for sure!

  • stage9

But wait! I thought Obamney had the best chance of winning????

    • Nukeman60

I think Annie just switched from Christie to Romney to…OBAMA!

Coulter: ‘If Romney runs, we will lose’

Coulter: ‘If Romney doesn’t run, we will lose’

Coulter: ‘If Christie, uh, Romney, uh, Obama runs, we will win! Please buy my book’.

      • TJ

I heard on a radio show (think it was Hannity’s when Mark Simon was sitting in), Ann Coulter saying her second choice (next to Romney) is Ron Paul.

      • MiketheMarine

If I saw Ann on fire on the side of the road I wouldn’t pull over to p……..

I mean, I won’t buy another of her books. I wouldn’t take one for free, either.

      • NYGino

She lost a lot of us a long time ago. (never bout her book(s)(s)(s)(s)(s)) either.

  • Can someone point me to the right direction on where they’re getting the idea that Heritage is one of the sources for the individual mandate?

    • I don’t have any links for you, sorry, but it was originally conceived by them quite a while back. They have since reversed themselves for reasons that I can’t recall but the original idea was put out back in the 90’s if I remember right.

    • TJ

I’ve heard it was Heritage Foundation’s answer to Hilarycare (universal health care plan Mrs. Clinton had that was soundly defeated). Newt Gingrich I think adopted it from them, but went on to continue to support it for many years after the Hilary universal health care plan defeat. The individual health care mandate is something Rick Santorum did not support.

  • MiketheMarine

And we all know just how much of a conservative hotbed The People’s Republic of Massachusettes is, right?

  • Amy

See, this is why I think Obama will defeat Romney… Those who are ‘undecided’ and ‘independent’ will just look at Romney and say, ‘He’s no different than Obama, so why vote Obama out?’. It’s hard to unseat an incumbent and if the choice is the same, people will either stay home or vote the incumbent.

We need a clear choice between the two options.

    • MiketheMarine

Yep, we have two choices, neither good. Get ride of Maobama after defeating MittWitt or move to the Aussie outback. Anyone want to come with me? We can go to Christchurch, Aussie and rebuild the place.

      • Linky1

        “MittWitt.” Love it!

        • sara holy land

          “MITTWITT” -What does mean ?
          Excuse me for asking.

          • MiketheMarine

It means Mitt is a nitwit.

        • Nukeman60

Yep, Mittwitt and all his ‘Mittforbrains’ followers.

      • virginiagentleman1

Shhh! Don’t tell anyone, Mike, but ChristChurch is in New Zealand! Great way to throw the bad guys off your trail though!

        • MiketheMarine

Yeah, I stand corrected. I’ve heard I may like the New Zealand gov’t better than the Aussie gov’t, anyway.

I, actually want the bad guys to come after me before they start harassing the likes of Maxine, or SDee or Amy, et al.

          • Amy

            You’re a sweetie 😉

NZ sounds better though… Too many things that will eat you, poison you or bite you in Aussie! I’ve officially told the hubbie no way, no how on visiting. LOL He calls me chicken, I say it’s self preservation! 🙂

            • MiketheMarine

I prefer dangerous animals to dangerous humans. Just like dogs, they make their opinion of you known before you get too close where as the likes of clintoons and maobamas and kennedys, they will befriend you then help to disappear you.

Yes, animals are honest in all of their dealings, you just might not like their opinion, is all.
Amy, I got your back and that of every other American. Even those OWS nitwits who do need to be protected. Mostly from themselves.

          • MaxineCA

Hey buddy, you’d better stay right here and help us fight on! But I know how you feel. Many days (like yesterday), just when I think things can’t get worse, they do. I’ve often wished I could run away to a tropical island, but it’s just a dream when I think my head is going to explode!

            • MiketheMarine

So long as the Chairman doesn’t win another election, I can guarantee I’m not going anywhere.

          • unclesamnephew

mike, you are rightous man! i feel the same way about the women in my life. got to get thru me before they even think about them.

            • MiketheMarine

Darn tooten. I won’t be in a position to be bothered by my loved ones being hurt if I’m already dead. That’s my plan.

  • Linky1

This may work against Romney. Carney is telling conservatives what they already know and with this “ringing endorsement” from Obama, Romney may well be toast.

  • WordsFailMe

First is was Nikki, then it was Coulter and Jan- wow, everyone’s endorsing Romney. Am I late for this party?

    Newt/West 2012/2016

    • marketcomp

      Funny huh! Santorum/Ryan 2012/2016!

  • Murray Kupersmith

As I have bee saying all along, Mitt is a RINO and he is NOT electable. This issue is the chink in his armor (and I don’t want to hear anything about a racial slur here).

  • johnos2112

The conservative idea was to have healthcare be available in all 50 states. And to stop forcing govt mandates down Americans throats. That is why healthcare is so expensive.

  • Been_There_BT

Pay attention here Mitt, the reason people don’t support you isn’t the robocalls, it’s the Romneycare

  • anneinarkansas

Little JJ should not get up in the morning!

  • MarkSylvstr

Spinning like a top. Carney actually seems like a likeable guy, it’s a shame he works for such a villian.

    • Michael73501

      Carney works FOR Nobama.
Carney seems like a “likeable” guy.

      …. make the proper conclusion!
      Hiliary works for Nobama too!

  • DavidRobertson

It is so simple and obvious that the masses are missing it altogether. The media will first kill off all Romney competitors. Why? Because they know that there is one issue that angers the public equally if not more than the overall economy…Obamacare. It is what sunk them in 2010, and it is what could kill them in 2012. So, if they can get the GOP to nominate Romney, they have accomplished a couple of things:

    1. They have disaffected the majority of the conservative base. They have exposed the GOP elites for what they are, and have weakened the resolve of getting out the vote. (Even people on this blog have admitted that they won’t vote if Romney is the guy). This gives them numbers and a rebalance of outcome….could even help them retake the house.

    2. They have neutralized the Obamacare fight. In nominating Romney, the GOP shows it is not serious about doing something on this issue. In fact, it shows the country that both parties are for a form of Governmental control over health care. The GOP will be reduced to talking about how they would have “done it better”. They’ll get so beaten down in the debates that they will resort to the “how” vs. the constitutionality of it.

In the end, the GOP will possibly lose Congress and the Presidency. They won’t recover for decades because the GOP will have lost all conservative credibility and will get challenged by a legitimate 3rd party formation…and I’m not thinking it is the Libertarian Party.

    • steprock

Your train of thought is not outside the realm of possibilities.

People say “get behind the frontrunner, no matter who it is” and I wonder what will be the outcome of that if/when Mitt gets defeated? How will that impact Conservatism for the next decade?

Then, of course, I see Israel showing they can’t trust us and I think that a hand puppet would be better than Obama.

  • denbren52

Romney has burned too many bridges with the base to beat Obama. This is just a preview of the general election strategy from the Obama team. We must defeat Romney in the primaries!

  • JohnDoe_FormerlyLOGICandREASON

  • PChandler

Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t, better the devil Obama than the devil you know created Obamacare and implemented it in his homestate of Massachusetts and the one one that said he doesn’t care about poor people.

That’s how’s gonna be in the general election, you’re warned mittbots.

    • unclesamnephew

i almost cursed! no way! our republic as we know it will not survive a second term of Obama. we must stand behind whom ever becomes the rep nominee. will i like it, most likely not. but will not our country be in a worst situation under Obama? as the “great one” states we must vote for the orange can before we ever allow Obama’s second term. will it be a fair election? not likely. we must be on our knees praying for guidance, or we will be on our knees under the rule of ever larger gov’t. give me liberty or give me death

    • NYGino

PChandler, you really don’t have a clue how bad Obama is for our country, do you. Everything this guy touches and does is bad for our country. Everything. I’m not going to get into making lists etc. because anybody that would, for any reason, wish to continue his regime would not understand or hasn’t been following.

Don’t jump onto a conservative blog like TRS and start spouting worn out sayings without knowing what you’re talking about. True, this may be your opinion, which you are entitled to, but general sayings won’t cut it here.

      Thanks for the ‘warning’.

And no, I’m not a Romney guy, I’m an anti Obama guy.

  • It was NEVER a conservative idea and Heritage acknowledges that now. I wonder how much cough syrup Carney has to drink so he can sleep at night.

    • MiketheMarine

Don’t be fooled. He buys his own crapola. He is one of them.

      • I’m not fooled and neither is Carney. He’s lying and he knows it (However, since he’s a committed leftist, he doesn’t believe in objective truth. Truth is whatever he can convince people it is). Everyone knows that government-mandated insurance coverage predates even Heritage’s idea. You think anyone in this administration knew about Heritage’s plan before Obama began his ’08 campaign? The fact that Heritage briefly supported an individual mandate is nothing but a convenient coincidence that the White House is now trotting out to make them seem less out of the mainstream.

When have they ever listened to anything else Heritage had to say? I’d be willing to believe they came around to Heritage’s idea, which was apparently way ahead of its time, if they got onboard with Heritages current ideas regarding the federal budget, entitlement reform and energy production.

  • Never thought I would miss Robert Gibbs

  • I don’t give a crap that it was based on Romneycare- it’s still unconstitutional and it’s a horrible thing for the US to go down this socialism road anymore!!!

    • BankGuy

Romney continually tries to hide behind state’s rights and doesn’t address the issue that the plan in MA did nothing other than boost premiums radically in the state. It only proves my belief that Rombama is a big government guy and will act that way if elected president.

  • Ana

And that’s why Romney disqualifies himself (or should recuse himself) from this election! His name (RomneyCare) carries one of the nails hammered (ObamaCare) onto America’s coffin!

    • steprock

I’ll say it again: Mitt Romney REALLY wants to be President! He’s been trying for the last few cycles and building up before that. He wants to sit in the big chair, fly on Air Force One, make the big decisions, have the military salute him, live in the White House, and get called “Mr. President.”

      He wants it all.

That’s why he’s not qualified. I do not think he’s in it to serve or put us on a new path; I think he just wants the most important job in the world.

  • kong1967

It makes no difference where the idea originated from. Unconstitutional is unconstitutional.

  • stevenbiot

It really pisses me off that the Heritage Foundation came up with the individual mandate crap.

  • Rshill7

Hey Carney! (carney is short for a carnival guy…weeeee, classy)

Since Obamacare was fashioned after Romneycare, how’s about limiting it to Massoftwoshits, mmkay?

“Hi I’m Jay Carney, and my job is to defend the indefensible. To obfuscate. Any notable newspaper need a delivery guy? OMG, this is too hard. I am now qualified to argue that the ground is blue and the sky is brown. Of course no one will believe that either. They will believe this Obamacare/Romneycare biz though.

    C’est la vie.”

assistant LIAR IN CHIEF! The Heritage Foundation is Ronald Reagan’s Foundation and he always said Government IS THE PROBLEM!

  • Heritage be hanged. There’s nothing conservative about it.

  • LeonidasOfSparta1957

That’s like saying the Bible condones bootleg hooch because, taken out of context, the 23rd Psalm states: “He leadeth me beside the still….”
Carney is a bobblehead. He has the ability to reason and capacity for logic of a housefly.

  • shame on Obama

    • actionsspeaklouder

Obama has no shame. Not a trillionth of an ounce.

  • NCHokie02

If Santorum uses this clip in an ad is Mitt going to say that its dirty politics?

  • Way to go, GOP “establishment.” Thanks for forcing Romney on us. I guess we better start buying–and BURYING–gold, guns and ammo, because you’re pretty much doomed us to Presidence Corky McShortbus 2.0.

  • Michael73501

Yeah – the US Constitution was once a “very conservative idea”.

We have seen what Nobama has done with that!!!

    In November – Nobama !
