Governor Cuomo has just issued a stinging rebuke of Mayor de Blasio and the NYPD for not protecting New York City from rioters last night, calling it a disgrace:

Cuomo plainly says “The NYPD and the mayor did not do their job last night. I believe that.” He also noted that New York City has 38,000 ‘people’ on the NYPD, the largest police force in the nation, and called for De Blasio to use all 38,000 to stop the looting and the violence to protect the city.
Cuomo added that he offered to send in the National Guard, but de Blasio turned him down. When asked why he didn’t force the issue, Cuomo suggested having two ‘police forces’ that aren’t working together would be chaos:
Cuomo says he's offered the National Guard to be deployed in New York City.
"My option is displace the mayor of New York City and bring in the National Guard as the governor in an emergency and basically you would have to take over the mayor's job."

"A, I don't think we're at the point." And he says it would be a "chaotic situation" that "wouldn't make any sense."

Cuomo musing about supplanting de Blasio and not truly, totally ruling it out to end the unrest and looting.
"Governmentally it is absurd. I'm not happy with last night… but you have 38,000 NYPD. They have protected the city before in these situations."

Cuomo: "There has to be one police force that's managed. Legally can you replace a mayor? Yes, a mayor can be removed. Theoretically it is legally possible. It is a bizarre thing to try to do in this situation. I think it would make a bad situation worse."

In the last hour Trump has also been tweeting about this, calling on de Blasio to use the National Guard to quell these riots while taking a shot at Cuomo over his horrible nursing home policy during the pandemic, saying “NYC, CALL UP THE NATIONAL GUARD. The lowlifes and losers are ripping you apart. Act fast! Don’t make the same horrible and deadly mistake you made with the Nursing Homes!!!”

Trump also slammed de Blasio for setting NYC’s curfew at 11pm, saying “New York City put on an 11:00 P.M. CURFEW last night. No wonder they ripped the place apart. Should be 7:00 P.M. CALL UP THE NATIONAL GUARD.”
