Jesus “wouldn’t have been our Messiah” if he’d been an illegal immigrant – Trump’s Spiritual Adviser

So this is going around today…

THE HILL – President Trump’s spiritual adviser Paula White said this week that Jesus would have been sinful and “would not have been our Messiah” if he had broken immigration laws.

White, who recently toured an immigrant detention center in Virginia, said during an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) on Monday that there was a difference between the immigrants being detained for illegally entering the U.S. and Jesus being a refugee in Egypt.

The Gospel of Matthew describes Jesus and his parents Mary and Joseph fleeing to Egypt shortly after Jesus’s birth to escape King Herod, who sought to kill the infant.

“I think so many people have taken biblical scriptures out of context on this, to say stuff like, ‘Well, Jesus was a refugee,’ ” White told CBN. “And yes, he did live in Egypt for 3 1/2 years. But it was not illegal. If he had broke the law then he would have been sinful and he would not have been our Messiah.”

Here it is in video (it’s cued up):

I find this to be a weird thing to say, to be honest. While I get her point that Jesus wasn’t a ‘refugee’ in a modern day sense as some people are trying to make him out to be in order to support their immigration positions, it’s just weird to say that if Jesus had broken the law he wouldn’t be the Messiah.

Jesus is our Messiah because of who He was and what He did for us, not because He did or didn’t break law. And if He did break a law, it wouldn’t have been a sin because He’s God and He’s without sin. God’s law ALWAYS trumps man’s law. Period.

It’s always awkward when people put Jesus in a modern day context like this. It’s like saying Jesus would have been a Republican or Democrat. Huh? That kind of logic is backwards. If Jesus were here on earth today as he was 2,000 years ago, everything would revolve around Him because He is God and our true King and ruler. There would be no Republican or Democrat.

Again, I get her overall point. I just think she didn’t really consider what she was saying before she said it.
