John Bolton makes a compelling argument for why we need to go ahead and put American troops on the ground. Here’s an excerpt from his interview with Greta:
I believe it is a huge mistake to place the safety of the hands of the United States, in terms of troops on the ground, in the hands of the Iraqi army, the Free Syria opposition, the Sunnis of Western Iraq or the Kurds. That’s why we need Americans now.

The fact is putting American safety in the hands of others who have failed before, like the Iraqi army for god sakes, is going to endanger us and cost us more in terms of American lives down the road.
He also makes the point that if we really feel ISIS is a mortal threat to America, then we should find the quickest possible way of destroying them without giving them the chance to grow larger and consolidate themselves as a state, which means ground troops. Bolton fears the longer this war goes on, the more American casualties there will be.
