The White House just released the following statement on Syria:
It’s interesting that they don’t mention Trump’s stated desire to pull US troops out of Syria. However when I read the statement, especially the last part, it seems to address the main issue that would happen if Trump pulled the troops out.
Note that it puts the onus on “countries in the region and beyond” as well as the “United Nations” to keep ISIS from reemerging in Syria. Meaning that Trump believes it’s not our responsibility to stay in Syria to make sure the gains we’ve made aren’t undone, as they were in Afghanistan over a decade ago.
So it sounds like to me that this WH statement is providing justification for Trump’s pullout of our troops, which I’m guessing will probably happen pretty soon.
