Karl Rove: Palin is hurting herself. She needs to get in or get out.

Rove was asked about the Fox News poll this morning where only 20% think Palin should run. Why Fox News polled that question I’ll never know. After all, they didn’t poll on Giuliani, Christie, Bolton, or anyone else in the same manner. Just Palin.

Rove believes the poll numbers reflect the fact that Palin is still in ‘tease’ mode, that she hasn’t officially decided to get in or out yet, and it’s hurting her. He says she needs to go ahead and decide one way or the other:

I don’t completely disagree with Rove as even I’m getting a little weary of waiting on the announcement. But I don’t really think it’s hurting her in any significant way. One thing I’ve always believed is that these polls don’t amount to a hill of beans at this point, that once Sarah Palin decides to run and people see her on the campaign trail mixing with people and giving speeches, people will flock to her (just like the media, heh). It’s just that simple.

***

UPDATE (Dan): I noted this in the comments, but just so nobody misses it: Bill Clinton didn’t announce his candidacy until October 3, 1991. Reagan waited until November 11, 1979. We know how those two campaigns worked out. Just a little historical perspective to keep in mind.

He had no fire in his belly, he was weak and his pretty wife was holding him up. He’s a traitor to all the military in the UsA and still in Viet Nam.

  • I rarely agree with Rove, but he’s right. The “will she or won’t she” game is getting tiresome. Especially when there’s a perfectly acceptable conservative alternative to her now in Rick Perry.

That is what they all want us to think. Once Palin annouces the difference between them will be clear.

    • Conservative? Beware the religious left – those like Perry, Bush, Bachmann, Santorum who want to use Christian issues/terminology to get us to trust them and then use the government to do EVERYTHING.

  • I’ve had more than enough of these folks in the media telling me how I feel about a candidate. I’ll wait until she announces her intentions. It’s not as if there isn’t time left and she gave no indication that it’d be sooner than the end of this month. Even after she still has time. It’s not her game, it’s the medias of insisting “she’s in, she’s out”

    • Anonymous

Agreed, I’m also starting to think the LSM is behind this “she better get in soon or she’s toast!” narrative.

  • Anonymous

I agree with Rove here on everything except Palin having more influence if she doesn’t run. That’s just moronic on it’s face. OK, I’m not going to argue with the diehard Palin fanatics who will worship her until the day they die, and I know they exist because they embarrass the hell out of me, but we’re not all like that. If she doesn’t run she will have validated every rotten thing her detractors have ever said about her and her influence will be non existent. She’ll be a joke.

This is a tease, though, and I’m tired of it. I’m sure she’ll give a rousing speech tomorrow and I’m looking forward to it because I’m desperate for SOMEBODY on the Republican side to show some passion. If she runs and makes it to the Florida primaries I’ll vote for her. But I’m done otherwise.

By the way, all this talk about O4P being this vast grass roots organization just waiting for Palin to declare? Yeah? I signed up almost 2 weeks ago and haven’t even gotten any spam yet.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

    • Rove and others are playing you with the “teasing” meme.

      Sarah Palin isn’t ‘teasing”.

Sarah Palin has her own timeline ; just as other candidates.

She made it very clear in the CNN interview , that she will decide in September.

It may hurt her with the commentariat and the insider power brokers, but it’s not hurting her with the people.

CNN polled the same question that FNC did about Palin, and 55% said she should get in. The first sign that the FNC poll was crap is that 68% of TPers said she shouldn’t get in. Yeah, everyone believes that. Need a bridge?

They polled 911 people. How many of those 911 people would say they were TPers? Not many.

Also, if I support anyone other than Palin, I’m fearful that she’ll get in. Of course, I’ll tell a pollster that she should stay out. Duh!! The lower tier candidates will be finished for sure. Bachmann will become an afterthought and Perry will have the fight of his life. If Palin’s running against Perry, he can’t call on her to come help him draw a crowd like he did in 2010.

Isn’t it interesting that FNC came out with that poll on the eve of her speech and that every FNC show for the last two days has had multiple segments bashing Palin?

    • Anonymous

Perry is the chosen one, that becoming more and more clear.

      • puma_for_life

The boss at Fox is a Perry supporter. This is why Beck sabotoged Medina just when she was gaining traction against Perry. Perry is a crony capitalist..no change.

    • Ha ha, good point. How will Perry draw a crowd this time without Palin pulling his chestnuts out of the fire and rescuing him from his challengers who had more endorsements. Sorry Rick, no super bowl rally with Palin drawing thousands for you this time!

Somehow strangely… Rove has miraculously really convinced me of his concern that Palin may be hurting herself by not yet declaring. I mean he’s really concerned. He surely could have no other motive now, could he?

She isn’t running – people have moved on to Rick Perry, and she will endorse him. She would be insane to run for President when she has everything going for her right now, including a nice income. She might run for Senate in Arizona for Kyl’s seat, but she is not running. What would be great is if Palin doesn’t run and puts her support 100% behind Perry. Perhaps getting Rubio to run for VP as well. She can raise the enthusiasm of the people better than most.

That combo can only lose if ACORD and SEIU have stuffed their trunks with a lot more dead absentee votes than they had planned on.

    • Then I stay home. I will not vote for another crony capitalist who believes in binational healthcare with Mexico. Not gonna happen. If you all want to, God Bless!

      • Anonymous

And that is how Obama wins. We need your vote to get him out. Wake up. But please don’t tell me that any candidate right now wouldn’t be better.

You need to swallow your pride or belief in some greater purity, and GET IT DONE, or we’re lost.

        • Anonymous

This is the one place where I part company with Mark Levin, who has been absolutely on-target during the last seven months or so.

I will damn sure tell you that “any candidate right now wouldn’t be better.”

“Anyone but Obama” is the formula for more Bush nonsense, more McCain-like candidates. It has FA to do with pride, purity, or any of the other of the usual BS claims. This IS a hill to die on, if necessary. I promise you I will vote only for a Constitution-honoring Conservative in 2012. If I have to write one in, I will.

Someone, somewhere has to stop this suicide pact toward statism, and voting for the beltway candidate is not how to do it. I won’t join that pact, and if Obama wins, it damn sure won’t be because Dan C., or I, or any of millions of good people wouldn’t join it.

This is no time for the wobbly-kneed response. If a “moderate” wins the nomination, I won’t be saying “no”, I’ll be joining millions of folks who say “HELL NO!”. If Romney or Huntsman or Newt or Rudy or someone remotely like those folks wins the Republican nomination, then to hell with the Republican party.

Why? Because they won’t kill Obamacare. It’s just that simple.

It’s not for me, or my pride, or some stupid party, or for political power, or any of the other, politics-as-usual reasons. It’s for my children and for the Republic. Putting up with claims by party-power pushers about “that guarantees an Obama win” is a small price to pay for doing what’s right.

It makes zero difference whether Obamacare survives because of Obama or some Moderate Republican.

          Zero.

That zero is something no rational person should accept. This is why Levin is correct in all other respects. If a constitution-honoring Conservative does not win the nomination and the general, then it’s game over for the American Moment.

That’s the problem with these primaries. Obama gets to watch and obtain ammo against all the candidates. The nature of this contest is to paint or skew points and/or facts to paint the opponents in a negative light.

Is he perfect, nope. No one is perfect. I hope you realize that? Looking for perfection is futile. The more we beat on our own, the better for Obama.

        • Anonymous

Don’t worry, they don’t need the GOP primaries for dirt. They already have it. This stuff is not rocket science. Trust me on this. It doesn’t matter what we say or don’t say, the info is out there. Its up to us to vet, b/c you better believe if we don’t, Obama, the DNC, and MSM will.

I just have to say that with all these guys coming out of the woodwork and making the statements just like this proves to me that what Sarah is doing is correct. By this time most of your pollers and advisors have started making their game plans for their candidates. They have ‘supposedly’ gotten all of their talking points and ‘spike areas’ to go after the lead candidates. With Sarah, these guys can’t make plans, nor can they determine how to manipulate the media for their candidate against her. They have NO IDEA where to hit at her. I again will state, that her tactics are completely brilliant. She has managed to create the necessary chaos within each candidates camp, and mess up the very foundations of established advisors so that they can’t make their usual timely game plans.

You keep up the nice foot work Sarah!!!! I love it!!!!

  • Shut up, Karl. I will wait to hear SP and all the other candidates speak and then make my decision. I sure as heck don’t need you or any other political “Pundit” to help me make up my mind about who to vote for.

There is no comparison. Perry has crony capitalist problems that the Republican political class is intentionally suppressing.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/right-turn/post/crony-capitalism-perrys-achilles-heel/2011/03/29/gIQAHVRXwJ_blog.html

This election is not Republican verses Democrat. It is the political class against the country class. You have read Codevilla’s essay. The political class is attempting to push the public in Perry’s camp now that Romney, a false favorite, has gained no steam.

The Fox poll is bogus. Even Pollutico is reporting about it.
    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0911/62553.html

Tokyo Rove and the Repthuglican establishment are just as despicable as the extreme left wing that took over the Democrat Party.

The problem is that many Palinistas are former PUMA’s who helped in the 2010 election to change the House. They are Reagan Democrats and Independents. They have no allegiance to the Republican Party and have seen this game played before in the 2008 presidential campaign. Check out the documentary “We Will Not Be silenced.” This is not over by a longshot.

What an exciting time to be an American!

Game On, Tokyo Rove. You can spin all the propaganda you want. It will do nothing to despirit our resolve. It is not anybody but Obama. It is anybody but a “crony capitalist.” Crony capitalism is killing this country.

Patience is a virtue for a reason.

It’s not just a virtue because it seems like such an admirable trait. Only easy goals require little patience. The most difficult, near impossible goals require the kind of patience only the greatest of heroes can seem to muster.

Cultivate a little serenity, folks, the ride gets bumpy later.

  • I think it is smart for her to not declare yet. For one thing, she is getting huge media coverage of her speeches, comments, shots at Obama and the left wingers AND the Establishment Right… ** see her speech on Saturday, Sept 3 in Iowa, which will be live streamed by CSPAN, CNN, FOX, etc. etc. etc. and it is costing her NOTHING.
As she stays in the national spotlight, with her every move all over the national news, the other declared candidates are taking potshots at each other and going to debates where there are 7? 10? candidates on the stage… its like a circus… and none of the declared candidates is daring to take shots at her because if she doesn’t run, then whoever wants to win will need her support.
Its Brilliant Brilliant politicking on her part.

Why should she declare? to satisfy jerk offs like Rove or Morris or her potential opponents?

Lets just see how the speech goes on Saturday. Sounds like she is going to take on everyone in Washington by the sounds of it.

My personal opinion… Sarah Palin could destroy all of them (including Obama) if there is a realization and a groundswell for her as someone who will go after ALL the dolts in Washington… Democrat and Republican… and that she is the only one of the bunch who could make that argument. Even Perry can’t divorce himself from being an outside the beltway Establishment guy (forget Bachmann, she is done).

Now, remind me what the approval rating for Congress is? 14% you say?

  • Anonymous

Palin has been vetted for more than 3 years now, these people that do want her to declare her candidacy are desperate for ratings coz she’s a cash machine for all the media.
I care less for when she’ll get in, I only would love for her to run when she’s ready.
Why start spending money, dealing with the media onslaught, lies and false accusations and facts twistings. If Sarah run, she still have more than a year to deal with “Palin “so called campaign trail road blocks and bumps.
I am prayerful for her and stand ready if she will decide so to run. If not, she will still remain a big PAIN in the lefts and Rinos arse for many years to come.

It was interesting seeing the dates that Reagan and Clinton announced their candidacies. I didn’t know that.

Which begs the question, why aren’t news outlets pointing that out? Palin is treated as if she’s breaking some sort of unwritten rule, and that real candidates are candidates because they are serious and don’t want to wait. But we are quite in advance of the dates that the most popular Republican and Democrat presidents of this generation announced.

Seems like the strongest candidates announce late. Perry held out as long as he could but he did wait. And now all these hits and attacks he’s taking in the media.

Seems to me the smart move is to wait. That’s less time the LSM can spend focusing on how horrible you are as a human being. Of course with Palin, they do that 24/7 anyway but once she announces, the attacks against her will get worse… which is actually a bit hard to imagine.

    • M Simon

Palin at this time doesn’t need to hire anyone. She has 10 armies on the ground doing her work for her and preparing for the day she announces (if she does).

What better way to go in than to have 10 Phantom Armies suddenly show up on the field when she announces. The other candidates have Campaigns. Palin has Volunteers.
