OK folks, break out the bubbly! With all the beatings the Tea Party has taken over the last few weeks, Krauthammer now says that it’s the Tea Party that’s the real winner in all of this because it has managed to focus the debate in Washington on the debt and it makes Obama’s investment talk sound like it’s from the Jurassic era.

Welcome to the Debt Era:

That must hurt like the dickens to say anything positive about the Tea Party.

Our 2nd huge victory since November . Well done Patriots !

  • http://twitter.com/ozziecastillo The Wizard of Oz

I wouldn’t call it a “win” just yet. The real winning will come after the next election and will not be completely over until everything Obama and the 111th have done gets scrapped……and then some more reductions for good measure.

Realistically, most of the federal government has to disappear to be able to pay the debt off. It’s painful to think how much money this administration has practically burned.

              Mo’ Money = Mo’ Problems

If Mo’ Money also = Mo’ Desk Lamps, then by the transitive property we can see that Mo’ Desk Lamps also = Mo’ Problems

This is not the end Mr. k – it is the beginning of a gov’t for the people,by the people. There is always risk when you make deals with Dems. Their words are not their bond even when they are etched in stone. Remember all the lies we have lived with in the past. Mr. K is throwing crumbs to the Tea Party to shut them up. Tea party please be careful of praise from one who has bad mouthed you in the past. You always can tell what kind of tree it is when you look at it’s fruit.

    • Anonymous

Judging from the looks of Krauthammer, the fruit is old and wrinkled and probably tastes bad. :)

  • Steven

Declare victory and go home? Uh, no Mr. Krauthammer, we still have the business of the 2012 GOP primaries and especially the GOP presidential primaries. We are not done yet putting into office true conservatives who will change Washington. And it begins in September when Sarah Palin enters the race. We need a Tea Party patriot at the top of the ticket in 2012.

Also there is still talk of some type of grand bargain, i.e. tax hikes. So no, we will be vigilant and hold our representatives and Senators feet to the fire until we get this administration out of power in 2012. And even then we will ensure that whoever is the GOP nominee, does what has to be done to put this country back on the right track.

  • http://twitter.com/victoria_29 victoria_29

OMG the TeaParty got suckered. From the Get Go Obama wanted a pass so this did NOT come up during election, the GOP rolled over & gave that to him, he has a blank check until 2013 well really from now on. And y’all call this a victory?? For pie in the sky cuts…yep good job.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_IDAKYMXLZIRLMLGEZJXV3AOO7E Vorlath

Krauthammer mentioned this. He said you should “declare victory”. The opposite is declaring a loss. That’s not what you want to do. He understands perfectly that the Tea Party didn’t get what it wanted, but there are some cuts albeit dangerous ones with respect to the defense budget. He mentioned this.

But one thing you cannot deny is that the message has been altered. It is now about the debt. The Tea Party completely OWNED Obama with messaging. The entire country understands that the debt needs to be addressed. And now it’s Obama who looks like he’s out of touch. Krauthammer said he looks like something out of the Jurassic era, he’s so out of touch. That’s a win right there. Get both houses and the Presidency and start making real changes.

Victory? It won’t be a victory until:

    1. A Balanced Budget Amendment
    2. Defeat of obama
    3. Congressional Term Limits
    4. Constitutional Amendment of Super-majority to Overturn Supreme Court Decisions
    5. 90% Scaling back of the EPA and Congressional oversight of that agency
    6. Elimination of Dept. of Energy and Education
    7. Breaking up of Teacher’s Unions under Anti-trust and monopoly laws
    8. Taking the Senate
    9. Increasing the Houses’ numbers with Conservatives
    10. Repealing obamacare

      Repealing the 16th Amendment.

Phasing out Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and all forms of federal welfare and declaring them unconstitutional.

Eliminating the Federal Reserve’s charter and a constitutional amendment outlawing central banks.

Making gold and silver money again while reducing fractional reserve lending ratio down to 2:1.

      BS

And the 16th was never properly ratified ! Theft then, theft now. We are on the proverbial merry-go-round and it looks like the ride is perpetual. Of course, we do have a 12 panel commission to look forward to in helping us. Rah.

Look, all I want is for a Constitutional amendment to require that the date of significance for all legal and financial correspondence, instruments, bills and receipts, be placed in the upper-right-hand corner of the front page of the document, in clear typeface.

That, and to eliminate all traffic signs, signals, and safety restrictions in return for placing stop signs every 600 feet, unless you certify once a year at the Skip Barbour Racing School, which allows you to ignore the stop signs at your discretion.

I figure with those two changes, I’ll save about a bajillionty dollars in the first ten years, and make life easier for everyone.

How much is 1 Trillion dollars?

1 millions seconds pass in 12 days.
1 billion seconds pass in 31 years.
1 trillion seconds pass in 31,688 years! We have $114 Trillion in unfunded entitlements. I don’t thing anyone can realistically expect to keep them.

Didn’t Margaret Thatcher say, the problem with socialism, is that eventually you run out of other peoples money? FDR created this mess, LBJ’s great society made it worse, and it has gotten progressively worse since. They are dead and gone, and we’re here in a mess. We have to go back to the Constitution, and stop this social welfare state. There are other ways to help people in need. The government isn’t permitted to do it by the Constitution, and they can’t fix anything even if they wanted to. Gosh, these people make a mess. If they’d just follow the law, and mind their own business, everything would run fine.

They’ve seized our resources. We can’t drill for our own God given oil. We can’t mine for our God given coal, because these people have stolen our resources and claimed them as their own. They even want to lay claim to the air we breathe and operate businesses in. They don’t get to lay claim on the air. It belongs to
    God.

Spot on sDee. Couple of my work colleages just got back from the US and while they were out there got talking about healthcare with some of our customers out there. Back of a ‘fag packet’ maths – UK taxpayers pay almost double in taxation for healthcare than US citizens pay for health insurance. And our healthcare is frankly shocking – it’s so bad that all but one company I have ever worked for has offered private healthcare as part of the renumeration package.

British hospitals are where people go to die.

Will you ever hear our politicians criticize the NHS? No, and the reason is the NHS is the third biggest employer IN THE WORLD. That’s a big voting block to annoy. So instead, politicians of every party boast of ”investing” in the NHS and once in power make good by pouring more of our children’s future into that black hole.

Meanwhile, our Navy includes an aircraft carrier that has no aircraft.

  • http://www.solitudeholdings.com/blog1/ Dan C

Kraut is dealing in politics and optics and not actual policy reality. Assuming Obama is defeated the next President will have to deal with 17 Trillion in debt right away, and a limit that is about to be reached right when they take office. All this spending is baked into the cake and cuts are nothing in comparison to it.

This latest debt increase to 17 trillion or so will last into 2013 when a new president takes office hopefully. Which means even if we get a serious budget cutter like Sarah Palin, she can’t cut everything all at once especially with the establishment republicans pitching a fit! We are going to have 20 trillion in debt before you know it.

3 trillion in cuts (wont even be that much) over 10 years is 300 billion per year in cuts when we are running 1.2 trillion deficits each year! So we will still be running a trillion in the red approximately every single year!

    • Anonymous

Your remark that if Palin is elected she can’t cut it all is to take note of and when Charles says we are doing what we can right now, instead of assaulting him, realize the same is true for his opinion. (See Mike Morrison above).

We can’t throw someone out because they’re not perfect or able to do what is 100% the perfect correction to the problems. We are walking on egg shells.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that the Tea Party is the first time the mostly white middle working class has had a political movement.

It’s a cry from the once silent middle that is the last hope to roll back the tidal wave of lower class and upper class lobbyist dominance of the Washington political establishment.

The lower classes and even illegal immigrants are teaming with advocacy groups flooding the halls of Congress with their hands in the cookie jar in almost every piece of legislation. The upper class, gain the upper hand by paying off corrupt Congress people with campaign cash while the banksters and Wall Street operatives move in and out of positions of power within the government itself.

Who speaks for the middle? The Tea Party.

China and Russia signed a bilateral agreement recently to get out of the dollar and trade with their own currencies. They have been calling for a new world reserve currency. The IMF is doing the same, while we still pump billions into it. I saw a list one time that consisted of 20 individual factors that could “each” collapse our economy, and/or the dollar. (same thing) Its a house of cards. Politicians want us to believe that the fundamentals of our economy are strong. Bush’s words saying that ring loudly in my head. That was when I supported him. Then that quote and “Islam is a peaceful religion” killed my support. Not to mention when I found out about the Patriot Act. Now Obama has carried on and added to the same agenda.

Oh yes. I am awake now.

Different rules. Government has a private central bank that prints money from nothing, lends it to them, and then we pay it back. In reality, we just get put on the hook for it. It is called a central bankster ponzi scheme, which just serves to enslave us beyond the collapse of the currency.

Our credit cards quit lending to us if we don’t pay, and we can’t make someone else pay. Theirs doesn’t, and they do. You. QE what?

In all seriousness – you guys should all be damned proud of yourselves. You are a peoples movement that has massively influenced your government to act in the opposite way government normally and instinctively acts. The deal may not have been everything you wanted but one things for sure, Obama is not going to run for reelection on BS lines like ”vote for me as I am going to be ”investing” in x, y & z”.

In the UK, we still fall for the ”investment” line without fail. The population still haven’t worked out that when a politician says ‘investment’ what he really means is borrowing more of your kids future to spend on something that never returns an income but does guarantee votes from one small but vocal section of society.

    Well done everyone.

This is really not a compliment at all. This is his way of being psychologically manipulative. Especially with his comparison to the `worst days of the Vietnam war`. Meaning declare and empty victory because you didn`t really get what you wanted but you did stop the other guy from getting all that he wanted. So with this plan Obama gets 90% of what he wanted so we should all be happy with the 10%, crumbs falling off the table.
Using a war analogy, this is like the battle of the bulge where the 101st airborne (tea party) are surrounded by the enemy, outnumbered and out gunned but still stopped their attack. Now it is time to dig in, keep firing back and wait for Patton to arrive with his tanks in 2012 to get a clear cut, final victory! My response to you Mr. Krauthammer is `NUTS!

The tea party is a success not for the reasons he claims. It is a true grass roots movement and not a political party. It is (so far) leaderless therefore immune to attack from the left. It embodies real principles, something that is foreign to the Potomac river rats.

A deal that reduces the projected growth of spending 6bil the first year, that doesn’t eliminate one single program or department, that says nothing at all about Obamacare, that essentially gives Obama a free ride through 2012 by raising the ceiling and giving him further authority to raise it himself, and that doesn’t mandate the passage of a balanced budget amendment; anyone who says that is a win for the Tea Party, for conservatism needs to grab his left ear with his right hand, his right ear with his left hand and Pull.
