LONE STAR SENATOR issues LONE VOTE against McConnell’s immigration scheme! [Update: CRUZ statement!]

The TedNado came out against the odd motion in the Senate where any law with more than 60 votes will be passed.

From the Hill:

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was the only senator to oppose moving toward an immigration fight on the Senate floor.

Senators voted 97-1 on ending debate over whether or not to take up the House-passed bill being used as a vehicle for the Senate’s debate.

A spokesman for Cruz didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment about why the conservative firebrand voted no.

He hasn’t said why he voted against it, but it kinda sounds like they might have agreed on an immigration bill that might anger some people – this way they can claim it was a big accident.

But the Texas Republican has frequently said he does not believe so-called “dreamers” —immigrants brought into the country illegally as children — should be given a path to citizenship.

The Senate is expected to officially start its immigration debate as soon as Tuesday, with senators from both parties expected to propose a wide array of proposals.

Any amendment will need 60 votes to get attached to the unrelated House bill. The legislation will also have to overcome the threat of a final 60-vote filibuster.

It’s unclear what, if any, proposal will be able to pass the Senate, much less the more conservative House and White House.

SO this is very interesting – we’ll keep an eye on what’s going on here, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they hoodwink us into some yuge amnesty scam, which is what the Republicans AND Democrats have been pushing for more than a decade.

UPDATE!

We got an exclusive statement from Catherine Frazier, Trump’s Senior Communications Advisor:

“Sen. Cruz believes it would be a serious mistake for Congress to pass legislation that grants a path to citizenship for those here illegally. Such a policy is inconsistent with the promises that he and Republicans have made to the voters, and is in fact further to the left of President Obama’s position.”

“The solutions that we should pursue should focus on securing the border and building the wall, as well as passing Kate’s Law and the El Chapo Act, both introduced by Sen. Cruz.”

“Respectively, these bills will provide for mandatory minimum prison sentences for aggravated felons who repeatedly enter the country illegally and require that any assets seized from convicted drug lords go towards building the wall and other border security assets.”

BOOM!! TedNado!!
