This speech is classic Marco Rubio. He gets to the heart of the message, to what America means and why we must do everything to protect America, for the sake of us and for the world. He also challenges his colleagues on both sides of the aisle to not put their careers over what’s good for America.

Great speech! Welcome aboard Senator Rubio!

My #1 choice for VP. For Perry or Palin. He would be awesome and I’d predict Joe would be put to pasture by the Dems in 5 minutes.

This guy has more class in his pinky finger than Obama, Pelosi, Ried and Biden put together. Excellent job Mr. Rubio!

Why do I get the feeling he was talking to a bunch of empty chairs on the Sentate floor.

      …literally and figuratively.

Wonderful speech. Not only his words were excellent, but his sincerity…you know he truly MEANS what he says. I’m so tired of career politicians who are simply snake-oil salesmen. I hope this young man someday will represent our country, or at least take a major part of it.

The other side really doesn’t care, and it should be obvious. This kind of plea is likely tolerated for the meanwhile, after which the other side continues to lie and work out deals for themselves and their donors – all the while, when their duplicitous nature is discovered it is dismissed as “just the way D.C. works”……hopefully they can hold on until we vote the next wave in.

Rubio is a SHINING example of the “American Miracle”.

This is what a true President should sound like. It’s refreshing to see sincerity. And so wonderful to hear someone speak of God’s help. God Bless you Marco Rubio.

Everything- EVERYthing Marco Rubio said is what made me so excited and happy to move to America! It is so nice to hear a member of our present government to talk about America in a way which so many Legal immigrants believe still about America. It would behoove (i always wanted to say that!) the current occupant of the White House to view America in the same way- but he and so many others who have taken full advantage of the American greatness and dream, still wish to see it decline. What would the world look like to them if that were to happen. They see an elitest utopia where they have the power and control to dictate and spread others’ hard earned wealth around, to finalize what they have started, in eliminating the middle class and creating all people equally poor and dependant. If that were to happen, I see the world as discribed in the Bible when talking about the very end of days. I pray God gives us the chance to keep America great for a while longer, to keep evil from spreading so fast and furious.

It’s June, 2011. He was elected in November, 2010, he is only now speaking on the floor for the first time, huh? How many times has Rand Paul spoken already?

What’s he still doing here anyway? Shouldn’t my freshman senator should be over in the Mediterranean helping firsthand with the escalation in the Libya war in the defense and aid of Al Qaeda he was so gung-ho for? Whatever happened to it lasting “days” rather than weeks? Or how about the continuation of the other four wars the US is involved in? How is any of that “good for America?”

How is the money printing used to pay for empire expansion good for those lower income or blue color individuals working to provide a better life for their children? How is the inflation that devalues their hard earned savings and raises the cost of putting food on the table before inflation adjustments make their way into their paychecks? How is the printing press welfare of the military industrial complex a favor to hard working employees and entrepreneurs?

This is nothing but a string of meaningless noises pouring from his face, it’s his actions that count, and in that he’s no better than McCain.

      Making up for lost time?

      Where you been, anyway?

      • Anonymous

Life. Also, I got banned, then re-banned after the switch to wordpress, and then for some reason some time after the switch back to disqus I’m not banned anymore.

I suppose we’ll see if it was a glitch or not based on how long my un-banning lasts. :P

        • http://twitter.com/ozziecastillo The Wizard of Oz

I was going to ask the same, but I guess I know- If you get banned again, send me a message on Twitter- there is a way I’m sure, and it would be cool to be able to discuss some of your politics even if you’re gone from here. So long as there are no weiner pics, of course.

          • Anonymous

Ha, no worries about that. I don’t do that nonsense and you’re not an underaged girl so Weiner has no interest in you.

I’ll have to make a Twitter account if that happens, and learn how it all works ’cause I don’t have the first clue. Twitter has always struck me as the Facebook “feed” on ADD. Lol, we’ll see what happens.

            • http://twitter.com/ozziecastillo The Wizard of Oz

That’s only if you use it- I have a twitter account for the purpose of having an information hub should I need it. Aside from that, if someone I know contacts me, I get a message and information can be shared once contact is made. Pretty cool, but pretty useless unless you’re in media or networked with all your friends.

Regardless- hope you get to stick around. A different perspective doesn’t have to be harmful if it can be discussed openly and with civility.

              • Anonymous

I’ll just stay away from Israel topics, since that was what got me the boot both times. There should be plenty more to give me blood pressure problems these coming days, what with more presidential debates and Lindsey Graham calling for war with both Syria and Pakistan.

Apparently Guam wants to break away from the empire, now. I wonder how long until someone calls for war with Guam if they go forward with that…

Hmm smarmy, silly me trying to be even mildly amiable to a defender of the permanent warfare state and empire. I’ll never make that mistake again, I suppose.

It’s wrong to want there to be a truly free market, both because it’s morally correct and the time-tested best way to promote the most prosperity for the most people? It’s wrong to want private property to be respected? It’s wrong to see aggression as morally reprehensible?

Oh, and can you make up your minds as to which country you want to start WW3 in already? This back and forth from one week to the next between Pakistan, Syria, and Iran is just tiring.

I feel privileged to have become an American. A month ago, I passed the interview and recently was called upon to take the Oath of Allegiance. It’s an amazing to witness a group of people, representatives of some countries that you hear about only in the news, for their struggles and for their resilience, getting up and receiving their Citizenship Certificates.
America the Beautiful is a beacon of light to the world.
May God give us a righteous and upright leader reminding us who we are; how we are a nation of achievers. But let’s not forget who we are: One Nation Under God. Indivisible.
I understand Senator Rubio’s proud feeling about the becoming and the future of America as a thriving and prosperous nation. May God always shine his light on us and may we be found grateful stewards of such a privilege.

Congratulations on your citizenship, I am a Canadian so I can’t vote.
I think that people such as yourself are very important to the political process. I know that if I became a citizen of the USA I would be more inclined to do all I could to keep the country strong and free. Apathy in the American voter is a big problem, unfortunately many Americans won’t realize what they had until it is gone. Work hard to keep America free!

I would register independent just so that I don’t raise any flags within the “regime”. ….slightly sarcastic, but only slightly- Congrats btw

          • Anonymous

Yeah! I was thinking about that too. My family leans more democrat (with aftershocks since the last elections). I am more like a “nose-to-the-grindstone” person that believe you can make things happen by God’s grace and sheer will. Yeah! Going independent is great. I like the idea of a blank check!

          • Anonymous

            Thanks!

            • Anonymous

Find out the laws in your state before you register to vote. I recently moved to Florida and registered when I got my drivers license. I picked Independent because of paranoia from living in RI and MA my whole life. I have since found out that Florida has a closed primary system and in order for me to vote in the Republican primary I’m going to have to change it to register as a Republican.

          • Anonymous

That’s the first thing I’m planning on doing when I get my citizenship- going to my local registration and registering Independent.

Where in the constitution do you find the responsibility to make the world a better place?
You want to make the world a better place? stop giving money to Africa, the UN, the Saudis, Pakistan, the IMF, the Chinese,…. Basically stop doing what you call ‘help’. Calvin Coolidge said his greatest accomplishment was minding his own business. Now that was president.

Whoah! Nice buildup to the “but” that happens at 6:17.

Greatness or “Doom”. OK, I’m with ya, there. But then, why bring out the John McCain style rhetoric? Why does Marco Rubio shun Tea Party style, originalist principles for “we’re really great and so we shall overcome, if we only make a few tweaks,” motivational-speaker stuff?

Here’s what stood out to me:

“If we here in Washington could just find agreement on a plan to get control of our debt. If we could just make our tax code simpler and more predictable. If we could just get the government to ease up on some of these onerous regulations, the American People will take care of the rest.”

“If we give America a government that can live within its means, the American economy will give us a government of considerable means.”

“If we can deliver on a few, simple, important things…”

Frankly we have too many people–in both parties–who have decided that the next election is more important than the next generation.

This is an argument pitched perfectly to appeal to nationalist sentiment, without bothering with those pesky Constitutional principles that make the whole thing work.

In fact, Rubio never mentioned anything hinting at originalist thinking. No hint of Locke, nor Paine, nor Jefferson. No hint of the concept of Individual Liberty. Just banal reliance on the “greatness of the American people.”

Fortunately, he appears to “get” the jihad business. But he never mentioned Israel.

I still like Rubio, or at least Rubio’s story, but he strikes me as someone playing a game designed to get control of the system, rather than return control to the people. I sure hope I’m wrong, but this speech does nothing to reassure me.

    • Anonymous

I should add, I’ve been noticing his tendency to distance himself from the Tea Party types for a while, now. Also a lack of rhetoric from him about the American experiment, and where our greatness originated. I totally get that he wants to bring “Hispanics” into the fold, and attract younger voters to the right. But this isn’t 1980. We’re now in a full fledged war of ideas with the left, and that level of subtlety is not where most of the country is, now.

So that’s why I pointed out the lack of mentioning Israel (unless I missed it, if so let me know!) and any hints of originalist thinking. It’s not just this speech that has me worried.

Healthy skepticism and I guess he could have a hidden agenda…as most politicians do. I think though you give Rubio to much credit as a member of the seedy underbelly. Considering his life story it’s not a stretch to accept his words as spoken.

        Maybe I’m over-analyzing.

NO, he should not be VP. Either reamin as the effective most important Senator he is right now or the Presidency should he so desire. He is the future.

His day is coming. West/Rubio, Rubio/West. The voice of the Tea party movement has given courage to several new politicians. As long as they know there is a large sector of Americans who have their back they will stand up for this country. We are, in fact, their strength…as it should be. Let’s not go back to sleep.

For the Record: As much as I admire and support Sen. Rubio — we know each other personally — he cannot meet the requirement of Art. II, Sec. I, Clus. 5 of a natural born Citizen, as every president since George Washington has known it to be (with the exception of Chester Arthur and Barack Obama), that being born of two U.S. citizens within the jurisdiction of the United States.

While his parents may well have been permanent resident, Green-Card holders, they were not naturalized U. S. citizens at the time of Sen. Rubio’s birth in Miami, Florida.

    That’s the America I know!

In a time when feel as though we are wandering through a desert of despair, voices like his are a refreshing spring.

I believe in an America where his vision and love of country is nothing out of the ordinary, but the kind of talk you hear from your neighbors and the average Joe on the street. That’s the America I know! Thanks for the reminder, Senator.

We need another Reagan to tell us it can be morning in America again. Rubio, West, Palin, etc., are our Reagans. I think in our guts we feel we’re doomed, maybe we can avert catastrophe in the eleventh hour if we get our minds right as a nation.
