Mark Levin: Is Newt really Satan?

While Mark Levin is on vacation, he’s taken a little time to pen his thoughts on the ongoing disgusting attacks aimed at Newt Gingrich by those on the right, including Ann Coulter, George Will, and the NRO:

If you read the comments on some conservative sites you might think so.

Newt Gingrich is not my first choice for the GOP nomination. I have said if I were voting today, I would vote for either Michelle Bachmann or Rick Santorum. But I don’t feel the need to smear Newt, either.

My friend Ann Coulter says she would vote for Ron Paul over Newt Gingrich. Really? Despite his racism, anti-Semiticism, hate-America first pronouncements, 9/11 truther nuttiness, etc., etc.? What about this?

What about this?

http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/story/2011-12-21/ron-paul-racist-newsletters/52147878/1

What about this?

What about this?

http://www.textfiles.com/politics/ron_paul.txt

The list goes on and on. Coulter is undoubtedly aware of all of this. How can she or any sensible person, let alone conservative, advocate for or defend this? She backed Chris Christie, telling me that if Mitt Romney is nominated he will lose as John McCain did, and it will be my fault (along with Rush’s and Sean’s). Now, she insists that only Romney can win and the conservatives in the field cannot. Perplexing.

George Will is slamming away at Newt again today, having previously suggested he was a Marxist. A Marxist? Is this the same Will who supported George H. W. Bush and Howard Baker over Ronald Reagan in 1979? Somehow he not only missed the Reagan Revolution, but he initially doubted it and opposed it. Your judgment, George, does not match your conceit, with all due respect.

Over at NR, the hits keep coming. My friend Ramesh Ponnuru is waxing on priest-like about Newt and his Catholic faith. It’s a very odd piece. But Ramesh backs Romney, not Rick Santorum, who is not only Catholic but is clearly a more reliable conservative than Romney. Perplexing.

Most of Newt’s attackers have announced for Romney or are at least fronting for him, overlooking or excusing most of Romney’s deceits — which continue to this day and most recently involve his flip-flopping on the Iraq War. Moreover, Will has not said who he supports, having previously backed Mitch Daniels. No doubt Michelle Bachmann is just too wacky and inexperienced for his tastes, much as Reagan was too old and unsteady back in 1979.

Having consulted a number of friends and colleagues from the Reagan era, they agree with me that we’ve not seen this kind of daily attack on a legitimate Republican primary candidate in modern times, despite Newt’s weaknesses and faults. And most are disgusted by it.

  • Mark Levin once again spot on summarizing exactly what I was thinking! Coulter, Will, NRO, etc. are truly behaving like jackasses.

    • Is_Sense_Common

Evidently “Spot on” is the correct way to summarize Mr. Levin, as 3 of us have used that exact phraseology. However, “jackassery” might be one of my new favorite words!

    • Anonymous

I just plagiarized your word: jackasery. Hope it’s okay. It fits most everywhere:)

I can’t believe Levin is playing the race card against Ron Paul. Who does he think he is, Jesse Jackson?

You are absilutly right. Newt Has no baggage what so ever, He has been as clean as a whistle. He is the shining light in which we will place our constitution and bill of rights. He is the defender of of light and everything right. I place my life in to his hands he is our savior. Please vote for new 2012.

    “NNOOTT”

    • Dax

Congratulations! Most lazy and worst post I’ve seen. Did you even read the article? Or do you feel as if all the other candidates are squeaky clean?

      • Anonymous

I read every artical every word, You must take it differently than I. Did I watch all the videos? no. As I know you did not either. since the first one is 40 minutes long this has only been up for about 20 minutes, you bigot!

        • Dax

The videos are about Ron Paul, not Newt. Your lazy statement was about Newt being perfect. I get it. You’re upset…because they’re about Ron Paul. Don’t take it out on Newt. And learn the definition of bigot.

          • Anonymous

He had no point in the first place, so why on Earth did lapitup have to go and call you a bigot!

That was just jackassery. (taken from Doors XP) hope that’s ok. It fit so perfectly.

        • Anonymous

I guess you read differently than I do.

To me it appears Levin is saying that although Newt is not his first choice, he should not be getting attacked the way he is. Especially by pundits that are now artificially elevating Romney after having formerly announced him to be so utterly lacking, in the past.

  • Anonymous

We may not have seen this kind of attack on a presidential primary candidate, but we sure saw so much worse for a republican VP candidate-Sarah Palin. And they are still attacking her!!

  • Darren Anderson

This is political storm that we are witnessing. We have the “good old boys” fighting the “non good old boys”. Why do they hate Newt? Probably because he pushed a lot of people to get the contract for America done! He created the Republican take over and made a lot of changes. I’m sure he pissed off a lot of RINOS in doing so. Now it’s time for them to get even.
One reason I like Newt is because the “Insiders” don’t! Is he perfect? NO. But I believe that he has the strength to make things happen and will call out the ones who resist him.
Romney is doing nothing but buying his way into office by using his network of money, influence and friends! I want to decide who I vote for an not be told who is going to win by lame stream media.

    • Anonymous

Exactly the POINT, WHY all this hostility and venom towards Newt, and from his OWN SIDE, is the worst! And all these RINOS and Republicans are quick to forget and disclaim Romneys many faults! Like the old saying goes “there’s something rotten in Denmark”!We all know we can’t trust the Mainstream media with it’s Obama agenda. I mean how can all these nit pickers on Newt forget WHY we’re all here: to defeat Obama at all costs and Romney will NOT get the job done,NEWT will defeat Obama!

    • Anonymous

You are revising a bit of history there…

  • Dax

We have to ask, what is the republican establishment afraid of? What do they really want? A true conservative? A moderate? If they want the most conservative then Bachmann or Santorum would be the choice. I don’t really care who it is as long as it’s not Ron Paul.

    • ApplePie101

They’re more afraid of Bachmann than of Newt, but she’s down in the polls so they don’t waste shot on her. Dick Morris thinks she might surge in the coming weeks. If that happens, the Romney machine and its supporters will turn their attacks on her. She’s used to it, though.

      • Anonymous

Not a chance. Bachmann will drop out after New Hampshire. Bachmann’s campaign has been a mess from the start. Her endless bragging about having “a titanium spine” was cringe-worthy.

Bachmann killed herself with the “anonymous” fiction she presented as fact. The crying woman Gardasil story and the eerily similar “we’ve been told that the SC Tea Party is selling out to Newt for money” story ruined any chance she had of being considered a serious candidate. If you have to get up on stage during a debate and tell people, “I’m a serious candidate for President”, then you aren’t.

        • My guess is since Michele Bachmann has banked everything on Iowa like Rick Santorum; if she is not in the top 3 or 4 she leaves the race. I am looking for a big shake out after Iowa.

My guess is that Huntsman, Bachmann, and Santorum will most likely drop out after Iowa simply for the fact they have not polled over 12% in the past 30 days. That is unfortunate because I think Rick Santorum is the strongest of Conservative candidates in the Republican field and he is my first choice. He has picked up a few points in the past 4 days and is polling at 10 to 11%. I hope the trend continues for Santorum.

        • Anonymous

Have you heard Bachmanns latest whopper? She told Monica Crowley she is the Magret Thatcher of the Conservative movement, she must have been reading Sarah Palins book again looking for material and direction, Bachmann is Palins little mini-me.

      • Anonymous

Dick Morris is a stealth advisor for Bachmann, thats why he always gives her some cred.

One thing that Rush and Mark are dead on with is that fact that Newt is constantly being assaulted from the beltway repubs. These THINKERS attack Newt with a ferocious fervor and yet they support Paul? Beck would support Paul over Newt? Really? Ask fellow Israelis what they think about that Beck! You too Coulter. The fact is Newt would be head and shoulders better than what we currently have.

    • Don’t forget that Beck also preferred Obama to McCain:

Awful isn’t good enough for Beck, it’s gotta be truly dreadful and detestable to get his endorsement.

      • Anonymous

In Beck’s defense, though, he did say, in Sept or Oct 2008, that he was not voting for Obama, and he was not voting for McCain. He said he would vote for Palin, and I am sure he did.

      • Anonymous

The only reason Beck said he preferred Obama to McCain is that McCain’s policies would have been just as damaging, but so slow we may not have realized what was happening.

The absolute lightning speed of the Obama regime’s destruction is what woke many people up.

      • Anonymous

I believe it was John McCain and Carl Levin who recently co-sponsored the 2012 Defense Appropriations Act that took away (destroyed) our 5th Amendment rights. Maybe Beck is not as stupid as you imply.

Beck is mentally ill…….”Light My Fire”

I can only assume that many pundits and politicians on the Republican side are worried they’ll miss the gravy train if a conservative becomes president.

    • Anonymous

ala Sarah Palin, that is why both sides fear her.

Mark Levin is the only voice that has nailed this issue. I am so perplexed by the intense nature of conservatives that I generally respect. Ann Coulter has totally lost credibility with me with her inconsistent and stance on a potential nominee. The fear of Newt on the right really has me thinking even more about supporting him. I am most disappointed with the willingness to look past Romney’s lack of conservative credentials to slam Newt by the right. You would expect that from the mainstream media. I remember when John McCain was the darling of the MSM until he got the nomination. The same will happen with Romney if he becomes the nominee and he will not be able to withstand the onslaught. He is a pretender that will be exposed by the MSM and by the conservative media giving Obama another four years. When did we lose our backbone and fight for principal, whether its fighting for Perry, Santorum, Bachmann, Gingrich etc…? Didn’t we settle the last time around? God Bless Mark Levin for pointing out this gross hypocrisy.

    • Anonymous

      I’m with you on this.

What’s wrong with these pundits? why don’t they just endorse? Are they so full of themselves they’re afraid they might change history if they reveal their favorite? Coulter, as screwed up as she is endorses a new candiate every 3 or 4 days and the world doesn’t come to an end. Are these bright minds waiting to see who will win so no one can ever criticize them?

We are at critical cross road in history, and these conservative mouth pieces are worrying about therir egos. Nobody gets out of this unscathed. Get with it! Join in! Take a stand. Let’s get this show on the road.

The Republicans, such as they are, are taking a stand against the tyrant Harry Reid and the lap dog Republican Senators right now. Can we not support them?

Now, I’ll take Newt. Who do you have? Jeez Let’s get on with this.

      • Anonymous

I agree, Coulter is screwed up. And full of herself, like her opinion really matters.

      • Anonymous

Exactly, but it just reveals what Rush has always hinted at, that NOT ALL the Republicans are ON THE SIDE OF CONSERVATISM! THERE ARE TRAITORS IN OUR MIDST IN THE GOP! Ultimately there MUST be a purging of the REPUBLICAN PARTY OR A THIRD REAL CONSERVATIVE OPTION MUST ARISE!

    • Coulter is getting back to her root[s]. She used to date bill maher.

  • Levin writes the same way he speaks…. brilliantly.

  • Anonymous

Coulter is backing Brave Brave Sir Robin.

You gotta laugh at how Romney is going around saying Newt can’t handle Hell’s kitchen while cowardly refusing to debate him in a civilized manor like Cain, Santorum and Huntsman did.

Brave Sir Robin ran away. (“No!”)
Bravely ran away away. (“I didn’t!”)
When danger reared it’s ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled. (“no!”)
Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about (“I didn’t!”)
    And gallantly he chickened out.
****Bravely**** taking (“I never did!”) to his feet

    • Anonymous

How about a Newt PAC ad with that song playing in the background of Newt challenging Sir Romney to a one on one debate and Romney’s poor excuse for not wanting to out of concern for the other candidates? Three of which already sat down with Newt one on one. Would that be considered a negative ad? I don’t believe it would. 🙂

    • ApplePie101

Debating Newt Gingrich is a test of courage, and the fact that Romney shuns that test, while Cain, Santorum and Huntsman accept it, speaks volumes about each man.

      • Anonymous

Mitt is a glassjaw and he knows it. He needs the cover the MSM and GOP establishment provide him just like the glassjaw in the WH needed the Kennedy-wing and MSM in 2008.

Romney is Obama-lite in more ways than one.

    • Anonymous

Mittens whined like a whipped pup after his interview with Brett Baier and the real game hasn’t even started yet. I think Mitt should just pick up his ball and go home.

  • The choice is not between Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul. There are other candidates. I don’t understand how Mark Levin can be anti-Romney for his obvious Big Government Progressive stances he has taken in the past, but totally ignore the ones Newt Gingrich has taken as recently as this year. I remember Levin being one of the first people to take down Newt Gingrich over his complete insult to Paul Ryan earlier this year – has Levin forgot about this?

If you want a candidate who is Anti-Ron Paul then your candidate is Michelle Bachmann, not Newt Gingrich. You never hear Newt Gingrich speaking out against Ron Paul’s crazy ideas.

    • Anonymous

Levin’s article isn’t an endorsement of Newt. It is merely a denouncement of all the talking heads shooting at him.

Levin states his preference for other candidates but has said he would vote for Newt if he is nominated. He has also stated he would vote for an orange juice can if nominated as the Republican to beat Oblablah.

    • No…Rick Santorum is the best COnservative candidate. He is also polling better than Bachman!

    • Anonymous

Given all that ammo, have you ever heard him say much negative about anyone? Said something ‘semi’ nasty to Romney, then apologized later.
And about big Government Progressive stances Newt has taken?. Seriously, give me an example so I have a better idea of what you mean?…really… I have a hard time keeping up with all the modern foibles people have.

I haven’t heard anybody call Newt Satan. He is a Progressive, however.

If you want to equate that with Satanism…be my guest.

    • CPAguy…Newt is not Progressive and the facts back it up!

  • Anonymous

Newt is not Satan but he is also not the anti-Romney conservative answer. He is McCain 2012. He is Bob Dole 2012. He is a nice guy who will lose in a head to head with Obama. Given the choice between a Mormon who upholds the family values that I cherish, if not the faith I hold dear, and a man who has made a pledge to stay faithful to his wife while he is president, I will choose the proven family man. In the meantime, we need to do everything possible to see that our choices are not narrowed down to these two RINOs. Bachmann, Santorum or Perry (in that order).

    • Anonymous

Unless the RINO establishment already has the fix in, Romney will not be the nominee. He’s been running for President since 2007 – and he still can’t get even 30% *of the party he’s running in*. Mitt’s a dead fish just going with the flow.

  • Anonymous

Mark is right, and we are disgusted by it. All through 2008, all we heard was, “People have problems with Romney’s Mormon faith,” blah blah, blan. Now, he’s the man.

We don’t want him, and he won’t be nominated. The more they push him, the more people will back away from him. We don’t trust them, and don’t trust him.

    • Anonymous

I don’t trust Mitt and his faith has nothing to do with my opinion. His “accomplishments” as a politician and his flip flops have everything to do with it.

Can you envision all the “don’t touch” subjects during a debate with the current prez? Socialized medicine, cap & trade, wall street, etc. Many critical issues for our survival as a sovereign nation.

I am not surprised by George Will’s attacks, but honestly, I have been surprised by Coulter’s. She has lost every bit of credibility with me over the past three years, starting with her announcement she was voting for Obama over McCain back before the 2008 election. Anybody remember that? Boy, I do. I do believe it is high time that Ann Coulter be kicked out of the conservative club. She can hang out with the RINOs and Independents. She isn’t welcome in my group.

  • I’ll go with this guy rather than Anne any day.

  • StNikao

    Great analysis, Scoop.

I don’t know much about Coulter, except that she supported McCain over Huckabee. She sounds like a RINO or liberal in conservative clothing.

As someone else said the differences between Newt and Mitt are:

Mitt gives lip service to Conservatives, but governed liberal left. (abortion, gay marriage, health care)

Newt gives lip service to the Liberal Left, but legislated conservative right.

    • StNikao

Maybe Coulter is a political conservative, but not a social conservative.

  • J

Yeah. So shut up all you big dopes!

  • J

Yeah, so shut up all you big dopes!

  • StNikao

More thoughts on what Gingrich is doing that has gotten him demonized some of the conservatives:

Gingrich seems to be running as though he is not focused on just winning the election, but on shaking, waking and educating, giving courage and boldness to political AND social conservatives and trying to undo and make amends for the sins and failures of his past.

One by one, he has taken on the ‘sacred cows’ or myths that have been carefully propagandized to the public over the last century by various Liberal PC agenda groups.

    1. That the earth is suffering global warming/climate change myth. He recanted and said he was stupid for joining Pelosi in the global warming ad.
    2. That the courts are the last, best and highest arbitors of truth and law.
    3. That Palestinians were ousted from their rightful lands that Israel is occupying. Islam is misunderstood and maligned. It is a peaceful, just, respectful, benign religion. 9/11 is our fault.
    4. That the LBGTxyz lifestyles are healthy, happy, holy alternate lifestyles and behaviors. This ignores evidence in science research, CDC and police statistics, clinical practice in mental health and medicine, common sense observation.
    5. That we should open our borders to any and all who wish to come, legally or illegally. We should provide benefits and education, jobs and citizenship regardless of their political or religious beliefs.
    6. That we have Sexual Rights, and Abortion is good.
    7. That marriage is anything the state, voters and social agenda groups want it to be.
    8. That the government has a right to over-ride and control our beliefs, speech, faith and conscience, to determine what is correct thought and belief.

If all this is any indication, we can look for more attacks on the liberals most cherished political and social myths to come.

Bring it on, Newt. Keep it coming!

    • StNikao

Please note that Newt signed both the Pro-life and Defense of Marriage pledges.

  • Anonymous

Really? But all the negative attacks on the other candidates are fine? I don’t think Newt is getting any attention the others didn’t get when they were the lead candidate. The biggest difference is he has so much more to scrutinize because of his long career in politics…even outside of office.

There are things I like about him and things I don’t like, but I think the criticism is fair. If he doesn’t have a glass jaw he will tough it out and stay in the lead. One thing he CAN’T do, however, is run from his record. It’s not only fair game, but SHOULD be brought out in the open.

  • Anonymous

Great article Mark. This is real proof that the establishment want Mitt, he is not a real conservative, this man has been running since 2008. Mitt and the GOP establishment just don’t get it WE THE PEOPLE select the canadate NOT them.
I would love to see Governor Palin jump into this race and see all their heads explode. They know if Sarah Palin gets in they won’t be able to control the outcome. You got to love it a real conservative, who just may win.
Iowa the ball is in your court CAUCUS FOR SARAH PALIN! Like Rush said it is 5 letters PALIN.

Newt, you ARE just a big teddy bear.

    • KenInMontana

I would agree that Newt is not Satan, I think Satan would not leave what many have referred to as “baggage” just laying about, he has had much more time to “practice and hone” than any mere mortal.

      • What baggage again? The one where he made money legally or the one where you are interested in his sex life?

If Newt can’t handle attacks from Romney, Perry, Paul in Iowa, how is he gonna handle attacks by Obama? Newt is the biggest whiner in the world. Sorry, but it’s kind of hard to explain away taking 1.6 million from Fannie and Freddie and sitting on a couch with Nancy Pelosi. But oh well, at least he’ll campaign with animals and music now, that should win over undecided primary voters!

I ve had it with all the fuax Conservatives, these RINOS, the despicable Ann Coulter, has turned into a nutbag fanantic, George Will is a legend in his own mind,as Buckleys nephew said he would roll inhis grave to see what National Review has become, and The Wall Street Journal has become manure. Mark Levin calls Coulter a friend, but friends like that who needs enemies.

  • dougtheavenger

Keep it up Mark and you will manage to loose this election and give Obama another 4 years. Nobody said Newt is Satan. The “attacks” consist mainly of Newt’s past statements and positions; such as flip-flops or as you call them (when they belong to Romney) “deceits”.
