First Lady Melania Trump is trapped in her hotel and unable to get the security clearance needed to leave because of the violent G20 protests:
NY POST – First lady Melania Trump was trapped inside her residence in Hamburg on Friday because of the violent protests outside the G20 summit, according to reports.
A spokeswoman said they’d been unable to get security clearance from police to leave the guest house and that “it’s unfortunate,” The Hill reported, citing NBC News.
The first lady tweeted about the violent clashes between protesters and police.
“Thinking of those hurt in #Hamburg protests. Hope everyone stay safe! #G20,” she wrote.
Meanwhile…Mayor De Blasio has abandoned his city, which is reeling after a NYPD officer was assassinated Wednesday morning, to go join the G20 protests in Hamburg:
NY DAILY NEWS – Just days after the assassination of a police officer by a mentally ill ex-con shocked the city, Mayor de Blasio is jetting off to Germany to protest the G20.
The mayor will crash the conference in Hamburg — and will deliver the keynote address at a protest event called “Hamburg Zeigt Haltung,” or Hamburg Shows Attitude, his office announced mere hours before his departure overseas.
De Blasio’s Thursday night departure follows the early Wednesday morning slaying of Officer Miosotis Familia, a mother of three who was gunned down in her command unit as she wrapped up her shift. He leaves behind a city grappling with the emotional pain of the execution as well as questions about how the alleged killer, Alexander Bonds, was able to slip through the cracks of the mental health system despite seeking psychiatric help just four days before the murder.
Hamburg, the site of the international G20 gathering, has been rocked by clashes between protesters and police. The protest de Blasio is attending bills itself on its Facebook page as a “tolerant, diverse and nonviolent” event.
How pathetic and juvenile! I don’t care how tolerant, diverse, and nonviolent this is, De Blasio is turning his back on his city right after a cop was murdered in cold blood, all for a stupid protest. I’d be one thing if he were attending to actual city business out of state. But he’s going to a PROTEST.
Whatever. He’s a terrible mayor and hopefully this gives his city the impetus to oust him. But it’s New York…so this might actually be a plus to many of his constituents. Who knows.
