McDonald’s Franchisee: ‘Obamacare will negatively hit us like nothing else’

You know it’s bad when such a successful company like McDonald’s says “the future looks BLEAK!” because of Obamacare:

HUFFPO – Here’s one thing you likely won’t find a McDonald’s franchise owner happy to ask his employees anytime soon: “Would you like a side of health care with that shake?”

That’s because some of the fast food chain’s franchisees say that the costs associated with President Obama’s health care reform law will cut deep into profits, according to a recent survey of 25 McDonald’s owners conducted by Janney Capital Markets obtained by The Huffington Post.

One franchisee even went so far as to say, “Obamacare will negatively hit us like nothing else,” according to the survey.

Some franchisees said they’re suffering from McDonald’s overemphasis on discount deals. Others claimed the chain’s new product, the McWrap, isn’t a sure bet. McDonald’s has seen slumping sales since last summer and Obamacare, some franchise owners say, is only going to make things worse.

“Obamacare is going to destroy already low profits, [and] McDonald‟s Corporation does not seem to care,” adding, “the future looks BLEAK.”

McDonald’s did not return a request for comment from The Huffington Post.

Well, this is the hopeless change everyone wanted.

  • OneThinDime

Hey McDonald’s, do you know why your sales are slumping?  If not, here are some things to consider: (1) you aligned yourself with moocher; (2) ObamaCare waivers; (3) Obama’s economy

    • OneThinDime and Burger King is better 🙂

    • Conservative_Hippie

OneThinDime  Agreed , if you get in bed with skunks you won’t smell like flowers.  If you get my drift.

    • Wiggy111

OneThinDime Big business knows Obamacare is bad, but rather than try and get rid of it they want to offset the cost by legalizing 10-20 million illegal aliens which will flood the market with cheap labor.  As more and more people get their hours reduced to part time they will qualify for the welfare state; food stamps, subsidized housing and subsidized healthcare.  It is going to get ugly.

      • OneThinDime

Wiggy111 OneThinDime Ding, ding, we have a winner!  And the illegal aliens are exempt from the ObamaCare requirements until they are citizens but receive free health care!  Financially beneficial for unions and big biz is correct.

Looks like the gold is fading on the Arches. As one who hasn’t really gone there since I stopped buying “Happy Meals” I don’t know about their menu but I do know they are not the only business negatively affected by Obamacare. The plan of destruction by the administration continues.

  • MontyRay

McDonald’s and Home Depot are just the start of a larger corporate outcry that will build up leading in to 2014.  Even Democrat stalwarts are starting to see how OCare is going to hurt their career.  It needs to go.
I think it is interesting hearing celebrities run around crying today about how the majority of americans support background checks and the fact that the bill didn’t pass means that Congress is now broken, but they celebrated when OCare passed by shifty rules bending and very little public support–and they called that a giant success.
Oh, and by the way, the majority of Americans support the idea of back ground checks…that doesn’t mean they support the drivel that was in that bill.  Statistics, so pliable.

    • patriot077

MontyRay I bet 100% of Americans believe in enforcing the laws now in effect and that would include prosecuting the lawbreakers who fail the background check.

Best part about linking to HOFFPO is reading the comments from the ignorant people that go there for news then post. With each comment they show the failure of public schools and the lack of ability to critically think, an in this case to understand how business works. The display of brilliance by hoffpo participants is something to behold, they hate capitalism and business, yet have no idea what either is or means, but boy do they have opinions!
Always good for a few laughs!

    • SilentTexan

True, always a good laughs….then leave to mindblowing stupidity, then to downright pathetic. I do the same thing reading from the MSN website. Its good to read for entertainment, but just like anything else, take frequent breaks and consult your doctr before attempting to read more than 30 minutes. It leaves your mind to a depressing and mind-numbing mush! 😛

    • bookmoviegeek

clockwindingdown you are so right. They seem to hate everything.

      • deTocqueville1

        bookmoviegeek clockwindingdown Including themselves.

        • clockwindingdown

          deTocqueville1 bookmoviegeek Well said!  LOL

  • sDee

    Obamacare is working as prescribed.

  • Conservative_Hippie

It’s not a small thing to bankrupt a behemoth like McDonald’s, but hey, if anyone can do it, Obama can!  Oh, and his trusty side kick FLOTUS is just as much to blame!

  • PhillyCon

Did McDonalds try to stop Obamacare ever?  Did they lobby against it, and try to build opposition to it while it could have been stopped?
Did they not see it coming?

    • badbadlibs

PhillyCon McDonalds is more aptly named, McLiberal….who was it that said chickens come home to roost?

    • TwinMs_OneE

PhillyCon Have we forgotten Aunt Nancy P. on health care – “We’ll go through the gate. If the gate’s closed, we’ll go over the fence. If the fence is too high, we’ll pole vault in. If that doesn’t work, we’ll parachute in but we’re going to get health care reform passed for the America people.”
      Still makes me sick.

  • notebene

You mean to tell me that NONE of these businesses saw this coming when Odumbocare was being pushed at us?  Don’t they have financial advisers that look into new government regulations and how they will affect the bottom line?  If any of these corporations that are now yelping about the pain gave money to keep this Imposter in office, they are getting what they deserve!  Perhaps they should really look at what a candidate is all about before buffering the coffers with corporate money.  It’s a shame that longstanding corporations are being hurt and it will in turn hurt their employees, but if they turned a blind eye on what the Imposter was doing, they have no one to blame but their own ignorance and complacency.

    • deTocqueville1

notebene One would have to believe they were either naive or inattentive.

      • patriot077

deTocqueville1 notebene still not paying attention after all these years. Remember Herman Cain objecting to Hilary care for the very reasons business today should have stood up and said NOOOO?

  • Krazy Ken

Its hard to feel bad for people who voted for Obamacare and have to suffer its wrath that they were warned over and over and over about.

  • deTocqueville1

Entirely predictable and it will hit a lot of part time workers, particularly students and older folks who depend on these jobs.

    • Laurel A

deTocqueville1 Oh it’s worse than that. You have people in those jobs barely hanging on that wouldn’t otherwise be in them. That is why when the economy crumps unemployment skyrockets the most for minorities and 16-24 demographic.

      • deTocqueville1

        Laurel A deTocqueville1 True.

    • Bac Si68

deTocqueville1 Sadly I see way too many 50, 60+ year olds working at fast food and grocery stores doing work that was performed by students and young adults.

      • clockwindingdown

Bac Si68 deTocqueville1 On the positive side they are better employee’s!

        • Godisright

clockwindingdown Bac Si68 deTocqueville1 Yes they are. But those floors are like snot on a door knob! 🙂

  • Wiggy111

This is why the elites in DC want “immigration reform”.  Big business is throwing around money like candy to anyone that signs on to this treasonous piece of garbage.  What better way to counteract the effects of Obamacare than infusing 10-20 million new people into the labor market to depress wages.

The McDonald’s I go to has quite a few hispancis working there.  They will be hurt one way or another by Obamacare,  They are looking at having hours cut to part time or getting smaller raises, but I don’t know if they will put 2 and 2 together.  We also saw recent hours being cut for managers in retail cinemas.  This is where outreach matters.  The RINO dolts think amnesty will magically give them hispanic votes.  They need to be out there beating the drum on stuff like this which hurts the poor and lower-middle class.

  • ryanomaniac

McDonalds corporate could care less. The franchisees are the ones stuck with the bill. Even if they bail on the business due to costs they’ll still owe corporate their money and fees. It WILL hurt McDonalds when no one wants to buy a McDonalds store. Big Business at its best.

    • deTocqueville1

ryanomaniac If the franchisees fail so will corporate.

    • c4pfan

      That’s true.

  • rockfish

If they are smart they will partner with another store and have the employees switch stores after 20 hours of work. Then they can work another 20 hours at the next store.  Just swap crews.  Sometimes they are within walking distance of each other.

  • Well, in one way, I can’t really feel sorry for companies like McDonald’s. Where were they when Obamacare was being voted on in Congress??? Oh, that’s right, they were falling all over themselves saying they would go for it as long as they got an exemption or “waiver” of Obamacare from the government. The unions, such as the AFL-CIO, said the same thing. They were all for it, as long as they didn’t have to pay into it. Now they do, and it stinks to be them. Try selling that idea to all your workers or union members that they are going to have to PAY for insurance they don’t need or want. So now they’re stuck with it, just like us. Well, gang, there’s always 2014 to look forward to. If they really don’t like it, then they should elect candidates that will repeal it. If they don’t, then they should shut up and live with it.

    • mike3e4r7

      Well said!

  • Godisright

McDonald’s is not the poster child for a healthy meal or lifestyle for that matter. McDonald’s supplies our health care system with long term repeat clientele. Take away places like McDonald’s and you jeopardize the job security of thousands in the medical field. Ok, I like a Big Mac every now and then….
