I know this is way O/t so I'll be brief. My wife got me my very first smartphone a "Droid Razr HD" or something like that. It can take pics and video, and it's this latter I'm having trouble with. I can download the videos from the phone to the computer and Real Player will play them. But "Windows Movie Maker" doesn't recognize the format and won't import them. Does anyone have a suggesting for either (preferably free or cheap) video editor that can handle the phone format (I think it's saving them at mp4) or a good format converter. The movie maker wants them in wmv format. Thanks.
If you are watching them on the computer then download VLC player. It plays anything no conversions necessary.
I wanted to put them into a video editor to cut out the "rubbish bits" and the video editor I had wouldn't recognize the format from the phone. Watchman74 below helped me find a good free converter. I also go the windows live movie maker (also free) and with that I am able to rotate the videos that were playing sideways before! :-(I think I'm set now! :-)
if its mp4 it should be fine, sure its not .3gp or .mov ?
handbrake converter is free and, unlike other stuff, does not install tons of links to other software.
I tried this one first (because it had the link and... anyway... Works like a charm! Thanks! You just saved me $35.00 on a program I was considering and I'm now going to give that to a charity instead. God bless! :-)

For today's open thread I propose a new way to pay congress. Every congressman will be paid on commission only. Commissions are paid on all real spending cuts passed while in office. Commissions will not be paid to those who voted against the cut, or on legleslation that was passed while that congressman was in office. Commissions will be 1% of all cuts distributed among all congressmen who voted for the cut.
Better yet, why not have representatives and senators and their personal staffs' salaries paid by their respective states and districts? This would save US tax dollars and the added benefit would be in making all of our congressmen subject to recall elections if they didn't vote according to the wishes of the folks back home.
Can we just make 400+ clones of her ass and put them into the House and Senate.

I have a young, idiot friend who drives around town in some battery-operated mobile and he's going on & on about how awesome it is & how it's so great for the environment and his checkbook. However, it was 26 degrees outside & he was mentioning his drive home was 30 minutes and he was not looking forward to it. I asked "Why?" and of course his car only worked for 45 minutes (round trip) if he used the heater and the radio. He'd already driven 30 minutes to the current destination, so he didn't have enough battery to get him home AND have heat/radio.
Of course I hopped in my SUV, cranked the heat as high as it would go & turned on El Rushbo really loud & said, "Too bad. SEE YA!" :~)

Our neighbors have a hybrid Toyota from 2003.
She and I would take turns driving to our sons sports events. We live on a steep hill.
Her car didn't have enough oomph to make it up in "hybridy" mode, and the car would shut down, and start rolling backwards down the hill. Sort of like if you are using a stick and dont know how to use the clutch….Only her car would totally shut off and she wouldn't have any control while it was rolling…..Totally freaked her out.
The second time, she tried to gun it at the bottom….but no dice.
After that, I started meeting her at the bottom of the drive way.
It was hard for me to keep a smirk off my face, because she and her husband,both super lefty's---- lectured us because we had a truck…..
It was so hard for me to come up with things to talk about.
