Mike Rowe was on the execrable Tucker Carlson’s show to explain why the coming robot apocalypse won’t disenfranchise every laborer, kill their goldfish, micturate in their Wheaties, and toss their televisions into the garbage.
I’ve been watching this debate closely and I kinda disagree with Rowe – he’s right that historically these kinds of innovations haven’t hurt as much as people thought and society has adapted. But in this case, we’re looking at massive displacement of lower skilled workers, and all those people are not going to be happy about being unemployed. And it’s not like you can train them all to be robot techs. But I guess we will find out very soon if we’re going to be replaced by superior robotic versions of ourselves, like sooper-robot-mexican.
