Minnesota DOT tells veterans they can no longer fly American flags on bridges

They’ve been flying the American flag for on overpasses for 8 years, but now the Minnesota DOT is telling them they must take the flag down. Why? Because if they allow the American flag, they might have to allow the Iraqi flag. I’m not kidding.

Watch until the end to hear this patriot describe why he holds the flag so dear:

Backmann and Pawlenty weigh in yet? Guess a cat’s got their tongue, or something.

    • kong1967

Just because it’s not in the media doesn’t mean they haven’t responded….assuming they even know about this yet.

  • Nukeman60

Safety is just the copout to cover their own behinds. This story reminds me of those high school kids in California who were not allowed to wear shirts displaying the American flag on Cinco de Mayo, for fear of upsetting the Mexican community.

When we cannot display our flag in our own country, it is the beginning of the end for us. What happened to national pride? What about pride for what that flag stands for and what so many people died for?

This appears to be a nationwide effort to stifle the Constitution and what it stands for. It begins with a flag on a bridge. Let’s not let it end there.

    • Sober_Thinking

Same example I was thinking of… this is worth fighting for. Heck, it shouldn’t even be an issue!

And don’t get me started on Mexicans displaying the Mexican flag instead of the American flag… or American flag-burners. This is ridiculous. THEY should worry about ticking US off!

    • warpmine

Sure it was and so was the reasoning behind automated red light cameras and then the accidents began to pile up and they still left them critters up. We as the host know in fact it was another attempt to wrangle more tax revenue from us at the expense of safety.

    • Orangeone

This is Demorat Mark Dayton at work. He enjoys his buddy O’Bambi and does all of his bidding in Minnesota. Dayton is a drunk, a failure as US Senator and a disgusting governor. Neither he nor any members of his family, including his kids, have served in our military. He would hang the Mexican flag any day compared to the US flag.

  • I had not known that story about the British commander telling them he would stop shooting if they took the flag down! What a powerful and humbling story.

  • virginiagentleman1

Just as GOD has been removed from schools and courthouses and public buildings across the land, now it is our beloved Stars and Stripes that come under fire. Many who post here have FOUGHT under that banner of Freedom.
Minnesota citizens, are you going to sit idley by and let this travesty happen?

When does the removal of the Flag come to your states my friends? It’s only a matter of time you know, before it happens where you live.

It’s gut check time, citizens. Are you sovereign, or are the agencies that are supposed to SERVE you now sovereign.
In your hearts and souls, you know it has come to fight or flight time. Me? I FIGHT!

    How will you choose?

    • I’m with you myVirginiaGentleman!!!

    • Orangeone

Dear Mitt, Day 1, burning or disgracing the American flag is a felony punishable with life in prison. Only visitors they are allowed to have are active members of our military.

      • virginiagentleman1

ROFL! Good one Orange! If the prisoners are only allowed active members of the Armed Forces as visitors………………………Well, you’ve gotta know that there will be a lot bruises and black eyes from the sudden epidemic of prisoners falling down!

        • Orangeone

🙂 🙂 🙂 Thank you for making my day. I love your patriotism and thank you for defending our great country!

          • virginiagentleman1

Can I let you in on a secret, Orange?
By expressing your heartfelt conservative views on sites like this one, you too are defending America.
My friend, your views are as important as mine or anyone else! Thank YOU Patriot!

            • Orangeone

Thank you so very kindly. My daddy raised me to love and respect this country.  He and his father and put their lives on the line in WWII (grandpa was WWI and WWII) so his future children would have the opportunity to live and thrive in this great free nation.
I’m working to give our veterans the right to fly this nation’s flag on all taxpayer owned assets like bridges!
              Bless you!

  • Sober_Thinking

I saw this… so, the American flag is now offensive too? Nativity scenes, the Cross and the American flag. Let’s see, what country is this again? Oh yeah, the United States of Obama.

Take your anti-flag sentiment to another country… it’s sickening, wrong and offensive.

  • I’m not surprised. Minnesota is the California of the North. They expect you to be ashamed to be an American.

    • CrossHugger

      Amen and I live there……

      • Orangeone

Me too and I’m embarassed by Dayton once again.

        • CrossHugger

Yup…thanks to the third party candidate and Emmer running a stupid campaign, we are stuck. But what sickens me more is we have repubs in the legislature that have no spines…..

  • Joe

That was a great historical story about that flag – I never heard it before

When I was a youngster (1950’s)- Flags were flown EVERYWHERE

In fact if you didn’t have a flag – You were the “bad” guy

I remember walking up the street (urban area 25 houses on each side)
and saw a FLAG on every house – bar none

Now if you have a flag – You are the “bad” guy –

We better keep up the fight to take back our PRIDE in OUR COUNTRY

  • When I read the headline here, I was sarcasticaly thinking, oh well, if the flags had a crescent moon they’d be fine. Good Lord I was kidding! The DOT’s explaination about the flags coming loose is a pile of crap. There are many muslims in Minnesota so this is just another way of bowing to them. This is bull. Old Glory ought to be flown from every bridge in every city. I love this man’s deep appreciation for our flag.

  • Bloody outrageous! Anyone should be able to fly the AMERICAN FLAG ANYWHERE in America! PERIOD! The ban it on safety and can’t point to SINGLE incident when safety was compromised in the last 8 years that the flags have been flying there! The “safety” argument is total BS! The “Iraqi flag” WHAT IF is another totally bogus load of baloney!

The veterans should put up the flags anyway! Then film the Gestapo brown shirts coming alone to remove them! Name and shame these anti-American traitors! I am SO damn mad about this!

    • Orangeone

Minnesota DOT causes more accidents with their useless changeable message signs that people read and crash into those in front of them Useful info on them is fine but they post junk. Not one single accident has been caused by that flag banner, just an increase in awareness for this great country. I’m betting the welfare folks that have to look at it are the ones complaining and Dayton gives them anything they want.

  • warpmine

To quote a well known sheriff “What the hell is the world coming to?”

  • Don

If you think the attack on Christianity and American patriotism has been excessive, you haven’t seen anything yet. If Obama is re-elected, the American way of life will never be the same again. Wake up America.

  • unbelievable.

  • kong1967

Ugh. I sure hope most Americans have had enough of this bullcrap and make a change in November. Obama has been systematically trying to destroy patriotism. No mo bama.

  • John_Frank

The assault on American values continues. Just another reason why Obama must go.

  • NYGino

Wouldn’t surprise me if the Patriot Riders showed up all over the State flying American Flags from their Harleys.

    • It would be fantastic if they did that!

      • NYGino

Just sent them an e-mail about this in case they were unaware but knowing that organization I’m sure they are.

        • NYGino

Just received an e-mail back from Karla Richardson, State Captain, Minnesota Patriot Guard/Riders, she says they are aware of the situation. phone:218-639-8482.

      • Orangeone

I’ll donate to their gas fuel fund!

  • CrossHugger

Mn/DOT lies…every political season…everytime there is a war protest…the crap goes up and they do not take the stuff down…….

  • CrossHugger

They never takeanything down in a timely manner especially if it supports the dems in Minnesota because they support the unions that those workers belong to

  • tvlgds

I’m so sick of the trashing of American patriots and Christians.

  • 12grace

Veterans and all Americans, don’t Comply!

  • This is America, english should be the official language and we do have a official flag,. enough pandering to everyone else, spanish is not our official language, the Iran flag, nor Mexico flag nor any other country flag the official flag in the US.

  • You’re the best RS. Watched Fox today – gets tiring quickly. For the other stations, not even an urge to take a peek.

  • Nice try, Minnesota DOT. Anyone think the number of flags on display will go down?

Me neither. I’m betting they start putting them on all overpasses, and on roadside towers, and on buildings, and on trees.

  • stage9

If you live in these gestapo states, you need to move! now!

  • carolrhill814

I can tell you something right now I would fly Our Flag exactly where I felt like doing so these are our Freedoms away.

Obama and his wife have already said “What is the big deal about this flag anyway” and now we see the way they truely feel.

  • Do it anyway! F ’em.

  • kocaloco

It’s a shame that Americans cannot show the patriotism and pride they have in their own country without it being deemed “offensive” to others who come to live here. Every American who is truly concerned about losing our Heritage better wake up and take a good look at where our freedoms are going. From our leaders catering to other nations before its own and allowing changes in OUR American systems: politics, economy, courts, schools, etc, to cater to enemies, we have turned a blind eye and deaf ear- not to mention taken for granted what it really means to be an American. Where is the patriotism? I haven’t seen it in a long time because of people like this in this article. A mosque at ground zero? WTH?! Islam is known to build their mosques at places that they consider to be triumphant to the cause of their god/religion; not to “honor victims”. How stupid we are to believe that! Our government thinks more of the non-Americans than it does of us and we sit back and take it. We see small groups of muslims out protesting en masse so that they look to be a loud majority: Where is the opposition? Few and far between. What do Americans do? Post their gripes and anger on Facebook, comment on sites like these, but where is the action? No wonder America is going to hell in a handbasket. Americans have gotten so apathetic that our own politicians think we are a joke to listen to now and they run with it! It’s sad yes, but we have no one to blame but ourselves. We let people come over here illegally, free of charge, and then pay their way without any help from them.
This is not a Democrat thing, nor a Republican thing. It’s not a Christian thing, nor any other religious thing. This is not a gay thing nor a straight thing. This is not a racial thing. So out with the excuses! THIS IS A FREEDOM thing! An AMERICAN thing! The only thing I see to do to take America back is to not TELL them we are tired of this crap but SHOW them that we mean it. Each piece that we lose makes it harder to get back. Ask yourself: Who are you? An American? Then act like it!

  • Our flag is not just a piece of material with stars and stripes. It represents our history and the sacrifices our soldiers and their families have made in human blood and the loss of thousands of lives. Everyone has their own opinion and freedom of speech allows us to express that. It’s part of the thread that is woven into our flag and our constitution. I think that other countries should be able to fly their flag at their embassies, however, that’s as far as I am willing to go in order to tolerate their need to fly their countries’ flags and/or forcing us to take the US flags down. This is America. We fly the flag of the United States of America. We are blessed to have that freedom. If you want to fly your own flag then leave. Go back to your homeland and don’t let the door hit you in your ass on the way out. Why is it that America allows small group’s to dictate how and where we pray. Our city council has been having prayer before each meeting begins. They have been doing this for years. Suddenly, out of the blue, a small group of people have demanded that the prayer be changed to a,’Moment of Silence,’ Why is it any of their business if our Council prays before each meeting. They aren’t routinely there for the meetings. They requested some time with the Council to communicate their intent to stop the prayers before the meetings. The same thing is happening in every state. Their goal is to force the majority to do what they, the minority, want them to do. What about the rest of us, the majority? Are our rights less important than theirs? I do not understand. I have no problem with religious diversity. If you need to get out a rug and bow down facing Mecca then do it. That is how a democracy is supposed to work. If you don’t want your child to hear prayer in school then buy them a pair of ear plugs so they won’t have to hear the prayers or let them leave the room. If you are an atheist or agnostic then we’ll get you some ear plugs too. As a nation with a Christian majority we should not be bullied by a small sect of trouble makers and lose the very freedom that we came here for. This is the way a democracy dies. I believe we are selling our Nation to the highest bidder. In the end there will be no currency that says,’In God we trust.’ The pledge of allegiance will have the words,’ under God,’ deleted. I don’t want to offend anyone or their believes but I am frightened by the zealots and fanatics that think they will be the only people to make it to paradise. They are very dangerous people who are taught to hate Americans from birth. Their Mother’s send their sons off with a suicide bomb and feel honored by the more people that die along with them… but, hey, that’s OK because they will have 72 virgins waiting for them in Paradise. Oh boy, 72 virgins!!!!! It doesn’t get any better than that does it boys?

  • Well, much to my dismay it is campain time again. Politics brings out the best in some men and the worse in others. I’m not quite sure what set me off to write this. I’m tired and I want to go to bed. Thinking gives me a headache, as my son once told me after a lousy grade on his report card. Thank you and good-night from Athens, Tennessee
