Most transparent administration EVAH! used private emails to avoid official record

This is my shocked face:

POLITICO – House Republicans are accusing the Obama White House — and the president’s reelection campaign manager Jim Messina — of purposefully skirting disclosure rules and negating the administration’s often-repeated claim to be “the most transparent administration in history.”

A House Energy and Commerce Committee report out Tuesday is stocked with emails sent from private addresses and meetings scheduled away from the building to avoid official record. Among these are several sent to a pharmaceutical industry lobbyist by Messina, then President Barack Obama’s then-deputy White House chief of staff, making promises about language for the health care reforms despite the resistance of then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to the measure.

“I will roll [P]elosi to get the 4 billion,” Messina wrote Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) lobbyist Jeffrey Forbes from his personal account just days before the Affordable Care Act cleared Congress in March 2010. “As you may have heard I am literally rolling over the house. But there just isn’t 8-10 billion.”

The note related to the official business regarding an agreement reached by the Senate Finance Committee and PhRMA on the president’s health care law. Pelosi’s office referred to previous statements in which she declined to address the deal between the administration and PhRMA.

Other emails released on Tuesday show Jeff Smith, a senior adviser to the director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy, offering to meet with Jim Kirkland, an executive from the GPS industry, off the White House grounds. LightSquared clashed with the GPS industry for years as it tried to get approval to use frequencies near those used by GPS. Republicans have alleged that contracts for LightSquared, which was backed by several major Democratic donors, had received preferential treatment from the White House.

“Jim – coffee at Caribou Coffee – across the corner from the WH – would work at 11:30 a.m. on Friday…plus getting you through the new WH security rules these days almost takes an act of Congress almost (and you know how well that’s going these days),” Smith wrote. “[P]lus you’d appear on an official WH Visitor List which is maybe not want [sic] you want at this stage …”

Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.), the chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee, said in a statement accompanying the report that he isn’t alleging illegal activity — just that the administration’s actions has fallen far short of its transparency promises.

“What we have learned from our many investigations is that, time and again, the Obama administration’s actions have failed to match the president’s lofty rhetoric on transparency,” Stearns said.

        Action Step 1 :
We need to buy 20 copies of this DVD and ask the people to watch, take notes and buy 20 copies and continue the cycle. Also, send a copy to the Senators of our states and the Congressman and demand that obama be tried on grounds of treason ( the DVD provides the evidence), etc. After he is convicted, we must insist that ALL of this legislation be overturned.

    • Because it isn’t illegal. Failed campaign promise… yes. Meeting lobbyists however is not illegal.

Because no one in Congress has the guts to move on him!

  • kong1967

If he’s skirting the rules how is it not illegal activity?

As you may have heard I am literally rolling over the house.

And they still are rolling over the House.

This is a lawless administration, enabled by the press and all who work within the WH which has been turned into a sewer.
They lie because they can, because they believe the ends justifies the means and because there are few who will hold their feet to the fire. Those that do…well, Breitbart comes to mind.

  • Nukeman60

Transparency? It’s up to us to make it transparent.

Andrew Breitbart said, just prior to his death, “Who guards the guardians?” He was one to take up that task.

Who watches the watchmen? The answer is simple. We do. Each and every one of us is the new journalist, the new guardian. What do we guard? We guard what’s right and what’s just in this country, that which is Truth. We watch over the Constitution, we keep it safe, away from harm. It is a hard and heavy responsibility, but who amongst us shirks that duty? Not even the least of us, each one typing their thoughts and beliefs while the world reads, and listens – and learns.

“I am just a blogger”, you say? No. We are the new guardians. Wear it proudly.

    • badbadlibs

Well said. Here’s hoping there are enough new guardians who will turn out to vote in November that not even the bo lawless machine can overturn the outcome.

      • Nukeman60

Most people don’t really care about politics until it hits them in the face. They listen to the LSM and accept what they say – because they hear nothing else. Give them an alternative voice, and they understand and then ‘vengence is mine, sayeth the voter’.

    • Hmm. New Guardians.

Has more pep to it than Fifth Estate.

      I like it!

Of course, the mil guys might want to call it something catchy and mix up a few concepts by cramming terms together and come up with something like “New Five” or Guard Five or something much, much cooler.

We all have to get on this. It’s important!

Transparency? That’s a laugh. Where’s his college transcripts? And how did a complete dolt like Obama get into an Ivy league scool in the first place since he spent the last two years of HS smoking dope and living in a “daze”. Who paid for said college tuition and what were his grades? And how is it that Mr Choom has a CT SSN and a false Selective Service number?

Everything that Obama does is nefarious. Time for the Wusses in Congress to get off their wimpy keisters and go after this lying faker with the law.

  • Obama had never been transparent. Dupes on the left fell for it. Quite frankly if he was transparent he would be in jail.

  • If Obama and his administration are using private e-mails, we now know how secrets are being past about and hacked. E-mails are not secure lines to handle discussions of secret national matters. There is not security with this a regime of moronic imbeciles.

More obama transparency….wonder if the American people know how obama really feels about women.

Obama’s State Dept criticises French Islamic veil ban
Historically America has been the global force for freedom. This has been our role in the world. It is only now, under Obama, that America has become a retrograde enforcer of everything we have stood against in our history: oppression, subjugation, and discrimination.
The full face veil is not religious. Even Muhmmad said that the woman’s body should be covered, not the face and hands. So it’s a political statement. A supremacist, racist sharia political statement. That is what America is getting behind. Stunning.
“The US is mixing up religious freedom with freedom of conscience,” he told FRANCE 24 on Tuesday. “In France we respect religion, but we also respect atheism. Believers and non-believers must have equal treatment under the law.”
The French are giving us lessons on freedom of conscience.
“US report criticises French Islamic veil ban” France 24, July 31, 2012 (thanks to David)

A wide-ranging US State Department report has criticised France and Belgium for passing controversial laws that prevent women from wearing full Islamic veils.
The US on Monday criticised France and Belgium for banning women from wearing face-covering Islamic veils in public, while warning of growing anti-Semitism and hostility towards Muslims in Europe.
The US State Department’s report on religious freedoms, researched in 2011 but released on July 30, 2012, warned that freedom of worship was being undermined across the globe — particularly in China and Pakistan.
Commenting on the report, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that more than a billion people worldwide lived “under governments that systematically repress religious freedom.”
“When it comes to this human right — this key feature of stable, secure and peaceful societies — the world is sliding backwards,” she said.
In Europe there was “growing xenophobia, anti-Semitism, anti-Muslim sentiment, and intolerance toward people considered ‘the other’,” according to the report, which also complained of a “rising number of European countries, including Belgium and France, whose laws restricting dress adversely affected Muslims and others.”
    France bans the niqab
A guide to the four main types of Muslim veil

France enacted its controversial law tha outlaws the wearing of “burka” or “niqab”-type full-face veils in public in April 2011 (Belgium passed its own law in July 2011) under then-President Nicolas Sarkozy, a move that led to accusations that the president was pandering to far-right voters.
Sarkozy was defeated by Socialist opponent François Hollande in May 2012 — although France’s new president said he had no intention of overturning the ban.
One French commentator, Socialist-supporting philosopher Henri Pena-Ruiz, said Hollande’s reluctance to change the law demonstrated that it had cross-party support while reflecting France’s longstanding attitude to religion.
“The US is mixing up religious freedom with freedom of conscience,” he told FRANCE 24 on Tuesday. “In France we respect religion, but we also respect atheism. Believers and non-believers must have equal treatment under the law.”
“And what freedom is this report defending exactly?” he asked. “When France banned Islamic head coverings in schools [in 2004], many girls said that they didn’t want to wear them and that if head scarves were not forbidden, their brothers and fathers would force them to cover up.”
“Clinton needs to think more about the emancipation of women. It is not as straightforward an issue as the State Department portrays.”
    A long history of secularism
France legislated for a total separation of church and state in 1905, a move that had its ideological roots in the country’s 1789 revolution.
This law, coupled with France’s prior experience of powerful [Catholic] church interests in government, goes a long way to explaining the country’s hard stance on religious symbols, according to Christopher Dickey, head of Newsweek magazine’s Paris bureau.
He said it also demonstrates the different attitude from the perspective of the US, a country that had never experienced the “domination of an all-powerful religious institution [like the Catholic Church in France] at the heart of government.”
But Dickey rejected the idea that the ban on wearing niqab and burka-type headwear was anything other than “a hostile act” by a president desperate to hold on to power.
“This report was researched at a time when Nicolas Sarkozy was transparently pandering to the far right and effectively legitimising xenophobia,” he told FRANCE 24. “It was recognised as such by the French who voted him out.”
    A ‘false and divisive issue’
Dickey pointed out that the ban only affects some 2,000 of up to three million Muslim women in France: “When you make an issue about such a tiny minority you are making a statement about your attitude to Islam.”
As for Hollande’s unwillingness to scrap the controversial law, this was much more because it was a “false and divisive” issue.
“Hollande and his Socialist government certainly don’t want to spend political capital trying to overturn it at a time when there are far more serious concerns,” he said.
But they may have to. On Friday July 28 a riot broke out in Marseille when police tried to check the identification of a woman wearing a niqab on the street, as the law requires them to do.
“The test will be whether the Hollande government really wants to enforce this ban,” Dickey said. “They will have to ask themselves if they are actually keeping the peace by implementing it.”

The U.S. Government won’t explain, but a 9 News Now investigation has found $30 million in unreported bonuses for fiscal year 2011 – making the already troubled General Services Administration’s total bonus pool nearly $44 million.

“Just outrageous,” said U.S. Rep John Mica, Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. “All put on the taxpayers tab. There are very serious problems for GSA. ”

GSA does not respond to interview requests

GSA officials did not respond to interview requests, but issued a statement saying Acting Administrator Dan Tangherlini “is reviewing all bonuses and the entire performance award system.”

Mica shares GSA oversight responsibility with Congressman Jeff Denham.

“We’ve known that there is a culture of waste, fraud and abuse,” said U.S. Rep Jeff Denham (R-Ca.), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Oversight. “This proves that this is a systemic problem that is rooted deeply within this organization.”
