MSNBC’s “Stand Up” Ad Ought To Be Called “Vote For Wendy Davis”

This ad has apparently been running for a few months now, but I’ve only just seen it in the last week. There are more than one in the series, but the below is the perfect example of the campaign. I’d describe it to you, but you really have to see it to believe it.

.

Aside from being a gaudy, suck-uppy, gag-worthy pander to their liberal core audience, the ad dramatically depicts Davis as a sort of icon for the notion of “standing up”, showing her pro-abortion filibuster while Matthews’ voice-over says “for as long as it takes.” It also shows screaming crowds of clearly empowered women chanting her name. Not pictured: the trailer park where she attended Harvard while breast-feeding and teaching her mom to read, or whatever.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, all pretense of being a news network has been abandoned by MSNBC. Higher up, this is probably a money decision. But among the hosts, guests, and tens of adoring fans, it’s a movement. Occupy TV I suppose.

Now if you’ll excuse, after watching that video, I have to go have a “movement” of my own.
