Murder In Chicago: This Was A Heinous, Criminal Act And Worthy Of Protest

Yes, it was indeed a murder worthy of taking to the streets in outrage. Sadly, it is not this murder that has people in the streets saying enough is enough in Chicago. No, this murder of a 9-year old boy is not behind the thousands blocking traffic and demanding justice. This one has no protest songs, no signs, no more angry speeches. Only prayers.

Today an arrest was made in a gruesome case. Four weeks ago, 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee was “lured” into an alley and “assassinated” according to police. Gang member Corey Morgan, 27, has now been arrested in connection with that heinous crime. He is being charged with first degree murder.

Two other accomplices are suspected in the crime but have not been named by police.

TyshawnLee

Tyshawn was shot in the face on his way to play basketball this, the murder capital of the United States. There have been over 430 homicides in the city this year. His murder was not incidental. According to reports Tyshawn was targeted, lured into a trap, and executed, like hunted prey. Part of a gangland drug war. A nine year old.

Religious people have gathered in sadness over Tyshawn. And a small amount of press was made. But the thousands marching together for justice, blocking intersections and drawing the eyes of the world … that’s not for him.

Today the streets of Chicago are in chaos over another murder. Laquan McDonald was shot 16 times by a police officer, and the gruesome slaying was covered up by the corrupt Democrat-controlled city and police union. This is the reason for the protests today. The shooting of a teen by the police, and the subsequent murder charge against the officer, are reason for outrage.

But where, I wonder, have these marchers been as over 430 other citizens of the windy city have been slain this year? Where is the protest for Tyshawn? Where is the solidarity against criminals, drug dealers, gangs, and the death they bring to the streets of Chicago?

Maybe sometimes outrage and demands for justice depend on the victim and the perpetrator meeting the right criteria.

EDIT: I’m including my thoughts from Facebook earlier today by request and in the interest of openness.

There are two murders in Chicago that are in the news and worthy of citizens in the streets. One was the death of a man who was gunned down by a police officer. The other is a nine-year-old boy who was lured from his home and executed by members of a gang. There are two things about this worth saying.

1) it is shameful how many murders take place in Chicago with no marchers in the streets, no holiday shut-downs, no national spotlight. Over 430, including the brutal and unthinkable slaying of Tyshawn Lee.

2) That does not mean that the murder of Laquan McDonald, shot 16 times by police, and subsequent cover-up by the Democrat-controlled government of the city, is not worthy of the protest we see right now.

it is good that there is outrage. It is bad that it is late. Both are true.
