A law enforcement source says suspect Akayed Ullah told investigators recent Israeli actions in Gaza are the reason he carried out this morning’s attack in New York City.
Here’s more on Ullah from Gov. Cuomo:
New York Governor Cuomo on explosion: Fortunately for us, the suspect's homemade device did not "have the effect that he was hoping for" https://t.co/llFdNu6oUe https://t.co/RW6wWr7QzH

Cuomo reveals the following in the video:
Ullah lived in NY for several years and worked for a taxi service. Cuomo describes him as ‘disgruntled’, whatever that means.
Ullah went to the internet to figure out how to make a homemade bomb and subsequently detonated the bomb near the subway system as you already know.
Cuomo points out that the bomb partially detonated, meaning the explosive chemical in the pipe did ignite, but the pipe itself did not explode.

Here’s a bit more from CNN’s article:
- Ullah is of Bangladeshi descent and lives in Brooklyn, two law enforcement sources say.
- He is a former cab driver, an investigator says, but he’s not licensed to drive a NYC yellow taxi and did not drive for Uber.
- He told police he made the explosive device at his workplace, according to a senior New York law enforcement official and a city official being briefed on the investigation.
