NBC Chief Medical Editor: It’s ‘pro-science’ to abort children with genetic defects

NBC’s Chief Medical Editor is very ‘pro-science’ and believes that detecting potential genetic defects in your unborn child has great potential for the future, but it also gives parents the choice to decide whether they want to abort their child. Despite ethical issues it may bring up, she’s pro-science so screw the social questions!

LIFE NEWS – On Friday’s NBC Today, chief medical editor Nancy Snyderman explained to viewers that it’s just good science to abort an unborn child that may have a genetic disorder, explaining that testing for such conditions, “gives parents a chance to decide whether they’re going to continue that pregnancy or not. This is the science of today.”

Snyderman then predicted: “I think the future will be such that you’ll find out that your child may have a genetic hit. You can fix that genetic problem, and improve your chance, a child’s chance…” When co-host Savannah Guthrie raised ethical questions about aborting children under such circumstances, Snyderman matter-of-factly replied: “Well, I’m pro-science, so I believe that this is a great way to prevent diseases.”

“NANCY SNYDERMAN: Well, you might learn that a child has a severe genetic problem. It gives parents a chance to decide whether they’re going to continue that pregnancy or not. This is the science of today. It is running fast into the future. And I think the future will be such that you’ll find out that your child may have a genetic hit. You can fix that genetic problem

GUTHRIE: Do you think it raises ethical issues? I mean at what point, if you have information that your child is going to have a genetic problem, and then you’re posed with the question of whether to go forward with the pregnancy?

SNYDERMAN: Well, I’m pro-science, so I believe that this is a great way to prevent diseases.

    Sick woman!

    that’s correct – Can’t fix stupid

    Abort all the democRATS

  • well I suppose that’s one way to prevent a disease, kill anyone that has it…

  • Rshill7

Sounds Pro-Satanic to me. Yeah, killing someone prevents every disease there is, except that which resides in the soul of the killer. This is the disease which you have, “Ma’am”.

    • So, perfecting the human race by minimizing those who are genetically inferior is just science? The early Progressives tried something similar in the early 20th century. It was called EUGENICS. They were wrong then and are wrong now.

  • odin147

i agree with this lady the best way to cure the disease is to kill the patient carrying the disease that way the disease goes away along with the patient..

    • PapaLouie

Is that where Obamacare is headed? Once a death panel decides you are too ill or too old to be anything but a burden to society, then all you get is a pain pill. And if you refuse to abort your child after the doctor notifies the review panel that the child has a defect, no healthcare for you!

No Lady. You are PRO DEATH.

  • SurfinCowboy

It already has a name, and it is not “pro-science”, it’s called “Pro-Eugenics”

    • Bucketheadbaptist

Surfincowboy is right… I’ve heard this term from the Discovery Institute (the Intelligent Design group).

Where the Nazi’s practiced Negative Eugenics… The Science of Eugenics had to morph into Positive Eugenics…

But it still leads to eliminating the “undesirable” from the gene pool.

  • johnos2112

How about when you are in early detection of cancer we just have a Kavorkian doctor take you out. I mean if you are pro science and believe in preventing disease by all means we should take you out of your misery? What a complete,,,,,,,,? I shall refrain. We must pray for her!

    • prey for her health, it is too late to prey for her wisdom……
liberals are educated beyond their intelligence; they are very verbal, but no wisdom ever -they just get old, never maturing.

  • James1754

Eugenics anyone? Have we decided yet on a breeding program? Once we start down this slope, where will we stop.

    • to satisfy our leftists, we have to
start with replacing our Constitution with Mein Kampf

  • When I hear idiocy like this I’m overwhelmed with an urge to go home! As a Christian
I am insulted by this pro-science crap. I can only imagine how a holy God feels over
comments like these. Every child is a gift from heaven and ony he has the authority
to take life. We’ve been made complicit in the greatest genocide in history, 55,000,000
killed thru abortion. Shame on these pro-science humans for their ignorance and disdain
    for God.
I can only pray that their hearts may be changed before its too late.

    • Rshill7

It’s a misnomer VictoriaV. There is nothing pro-science about abortion. Please don’t take it out on science. Real science negates macro-evolution, global-warming, geologic uniformitarianism, and abortion. It also does a great job of negating atheism.

What you are referring to is purely and simply, the politicization of science, not science itself. Other than that, you are right on. Real, nonpoliticized science is one of the Bible’s best friends. False science is it’s mortal enemy.

  • Goldni007

Somebody ask this lady who’s not “pro-science”?

  • Amy

I’m pro-God and he doesn’t make any mistakes.

    • AMEN Amy!!!!

    • mike morrison

That’s true, but it’s unscriptual to claim that every baby born with a defect is perfect. It’s not. None of us are because of sin. If you want to make the theological argument, you can’t blame or attribute a birth defect on God…that’s totally untrue.

      • Amy

I didn’t claim anything of the sort and am completely aware of the imperfect world we live and why that is… Nor did I blame God. Not sure where you got that at or why you are cruising for a theological argument.

I have a child with a ‘defect’ and she is a blessing. I worked for years with kids who had varying cognitive disabilities. They too are a blessing. That’s how God works in our imperfect world.

      • gilleysuited

The body may be imperfect, but the soul is!

      • sjmom

What you’re saying is true and this is why Jesus healed them all. He still does.

    • sjmom

  • What if they find the gay jean? Wouldn’t you hate to have a kid suffer through that whole ordeal?

    • Goldni007

Damn good point sir. That’d rock their little world. Wouldn’t it?

    • FreeManWalking

What if they find the gene that turns a what would be a productive member of society into a Leftist Socialist Democrat Communist SickO, opps I repeated myself.

  • Nancy Snyderman (pro-abortion)- —–> please perform late abortion…………..on Nancy Snyderman.
You are so wrong, you narrow (i.e. skinny broad) naivete . I know better —-> for many years I was gynecologist-amateur 😉

  • G_unitttt

oh yea, i am proscience too, and her mama should’ve aborted her @ss for being an idiot

  • Sandra123456

    Very Hitlerian.

If we can diagnose genetic problems with a baby in the womb maybe someday those defects could be treated before birth.

Like Rush says if they discover a genetic defect that causes homosexuality, this pro abort (murder) crowd will have an instant change of mind.

  • toongoon

So now unborn children are diseases. Pro-death people (people?), will go to any length to get inside the womb, won’t they?

    • NYGino

I used to use flowers and candy and sweet words but I was never pro death so what did I know.

      • toongoon

I guess the methods changed, as did the reasons.

  • panchita

Sarah should bring out her halibut club and beat this harridan over the head with a facebook post.

  • Islam_Sucks

Dr Mengele to NBC News. Paging Dr. Mengele.

    • badbadlibs

I didn’t see your reply….chalk it up to great right minds think alike! 😉

    • sjmom

      Good comparison. Heil NBC!

  • toongoon

    When does pro-science become anti-thinking?

I would be very interested in hearing her thoughts about Margaret Sanger and the black race. Do you think she would be that candid?

    • freenca

As I have come to think, WHERE oh WHERE do You draw that line? A time for Birth, and a time to Live, and a time to Die In our creator’s good time NOT OUR’S ! We ARE NOT OUR CREATOR !

    • sjmom

Wisdom comes from God and the pro science crowd usually disdains the Creator; that is if they believe in Him in the first place. Put simply; no God……..no wisdom!

  • Boxofteabags

    Diseases …like liberalism???

  • Jim Botts

    Hitler was pro-science too!

  • badbadlibs

    Dr. Mengele in drag.

  • aPLWBinAK

We detect a ‘defect’ in your thinking Miss Snyderman, could be genetic, could be a choice you made………so what’d’ya think? should we abort you? Or should we leave science behind for a moment and choose life?

    • PapaLouie

By her logic science demands that we perform a retroactive abortion on her before she can spread her defects to all of humanity.

      • NYGino

Yes. A late term abortion, very late term but what the heck, it’s science you know.

  • NYGino

Nancy, I’m not at all fond of your nose. Too bad you weren’t aborted.

  • UnsungPatriot

I believe her thinking parallels the founder of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger, who wanted to eliminate inferior babies. It was called eugenics.

The Hitler comparisons are too easy. Accurate but intellectually lazy. Ms. Snyderman is the poster child for everything wrong with our education system and our national morality.

    I weep for our future.

  • brendawatkins

How long will it take for them to announce that Christianity is a genetic disorder?

  • playsalieri

Wow…Margaret Sanger is back from the dead.

Hmm, I think there’s a small bit of irony in that statement!

  • Pyrran

    Ahhh, the new T-4 program!
    Sieg Heil, Fraulein Snyderman!

  • What a maroon!

This chick is most assuredly not “pro-science”. Science is not the opposite of morality. Science is merely study. It in no way demands human sacrifice. It is impossible for her to be “pro-” anything that she cannot even comprehend.

Her argument justifies the Nazi experimentation on Jewish slaves.

    • toongoon

Hear, hear. Right On The Mark.

  • M_J_S

Mrs. Dr. Menegle ladies and gentleman.

  • Guest1776rcp

This is the science of today.

Its also the science of NAZI Germany. What a sick sick disgusting woman!

  • WordsFailMe

Since these liberal cannibals have no handguns in which to cut notches for every baby killed and since they probably won’t paint dead baby pictures on the door of their Prius’ like fighter pilot did in the WW’s, maybe women could simply add another piercing to their ears to symbolize the children they’ve killed.

Certainly is a mixed bag here. Probably the children this women has strangled and mutilated are better off with out her as the sow.

    These people are sick.

  • She might be a doctor, who somehow forgot about the Hipocratic Oath to do no harm, but it goes to show how education does not equal brains.

Evil pathetic slope we’ve been on since Roe v Wade… all the things pro life folks have been warning about amid scoffers have been happening. I know parents who have down syndrome, cerebral palsy and other mentally challenged kids who would NEVER consider murdering these sweet kids. Whenever a jerk like Snyderman suggests advocating murdering babies because of genetic defects, how does she think parents or people with mild cases of DS feel? Do these evil murdering hypocrites ever think that these folks might feel less than human for being born?!

For those of you who might think that human life doesn’t begin at conception, and that all it is is a lump of tissue, think about it: https://www.facebook.com/index.php?lh=Ac_Z1CqthOZwez0p#!/photo.php?fbid=373340932700730&set=o.254455071242993&type=1&theater

    • badbadlibs

Did you hear that pounding? It was me hitting my head on the keyboard after reading some of those facebook posts…there are seriously heartless creatures with computers.

      • I know. I tried not to read any of them- but the point was excellent. The fact that such vile and evil posters, well, the harder the truth, the more vile the response from those who know it’s true.

  • toongoon

Is it pro-science to abort because it’s a girl too?

    • NYGino

Maybe that’s why they use the term ‘pro-choice instead of pro-death’. They want to choose to have either a boy or a girl. If it turns out to be not what you wanted well we have science to correct mistakes.

  • CalCoolidge

    Is liberalism a genetic defect?

    • toongoon

All of the scientific tests I have conducted are conclusive-One sixteenth of a brain is definitely a defect-Ok Doc, you know what to do…

  • DCGere

God would probably disagree with her reasoning, such as it is.

  • K-Bob

OK, I see her error is obvious, but I don’t think it means people need to jump to Nazi equivalences here.

Liberals don’t all think abortion is a good thing. The typical polling on abortion shows a solid majority of people don’t want abortion made legal “in all circumstances”. This means a lot of liberals aren’t pro-choice, even though they may not want Roe-v-Wade overturned. That may sound confusing, but everything about liberals is confusing.

A lot of folks in the medical profession “allow” for abortion as a possible choice, but remember that the vast majority of doctors will always try to save the pregnancy, and save the life of the fetus. So her thinking is flawed, yeah. And she stepped in it here. But she’s not Joseph Mengele because of it.

We just need to change the “default” thinking of people so that they resist the tendency to treat a fetus as a non-human. The good news is that, as medical science advances, this battle is tipping more in favor of the pro-life side, since more fetuses are being saved at earlier terms in utero.

    • Thanks for being so logical and clear headed K-Bob. 🙂

      • K-Bob

Thanks, AbiC! Hope you are havin’ a good late-Thursday/Early-Wednesday morning!

        • I think you meant “late-Tuesday” there, Mr. Bob. 🙂

          • K-Bob

Not if you go though life backwards, like me (and Merlin). That’s also why I have so many typos in my comments. I have to type backwards so you forwards people can read it.

I shall make a note of this, Tuesday-comes-before Thursday item, however.

  • Nukeman60

Well, I’m pro-science, so I believe that this is a great way to prevent diseases‘ – Snyderman

I’m pro-science, too, and I’m anti-abortion at the same time. Science is merely man’s means of discovering what God has already created. We, ourselves, are not gods and have never created anything. But we sure like to destroy.

I’m really tired of the same old line about abortion being a good way to stop imperfect babies from tainting our society. No matter which way you spin it, unless there is a medical emergency, all abortions and the excuses for them are merely acts of convenience only. Pro-choice is pro-death. I choose pro-life and I’m pretty sure that my reasoning will stand up just a smidgen better on judgement day than that of the ‘convenience’ of abortion.

  • 12grace

It seems that we may all have predisposition toward some disease or another so if Snyderman’s reasoning were followed who would be left?

    • Patriot077

This is exactly why our government should have nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with our health care.

      • K-Bob

I don’t mind stuff like the CDC existing. That is “research” and “preparedness.” Both fall under National Defense. But we don’t need some group of unelected bureaucrats deciding our medical care. No, hunh-uh!

        • Patriot077

Agreed, K-Bob. If I had been thinking, I would have added your words. I guess I was too focused on the private doctor/patient relationship.

  • 12grace

It seems that we may all have predisposition toward some disease or another so if Snyderman’s reasoning were followed who would be left?

  • TomGMS

Sigh…These people are altogether evil, and they need to be stopped.

  • dontdrinkthecoolaid

Pro-science, huh? She’ll kill humans before they have a chance at life, but stand tall to save animals.

  • kong1967

Isn’t this in the direction of Hitler? The perfect race….the perfect people with no genetic defects?

    • Josh

My 14 year old daughter posed a question to me just the other day. If Hitler thought that the perfect race was blonde and blue-eyed, what did that make him? I said “crazy”. We both laughed. Stupid liberals.

      • kong1967

  • mike morrison

abortion prevents disease…so does killing newborns, and toddlers, and children, and adults.

great googly moogly:( We’re going to hell…all of us.

    • badbadlibs

I laughed and got scared all at once reading your reply!

  • NCHokie02

Same type of people that don’t want to cut down certain areas for development because it may harm the North Carolina field mouse…..but their completely ok with killing an unborn child and more and more a recently born child.

God made it so that we can find things through science. Science supports His existence so how is she “pro-science” and “pro-abortion”.

She’s the one who’ll have to answer for herself one day not me.

  • Joseph ewing

This is great news. Please now someone identify the Liberal Gene?

  • Sober_Thinking

Thankfully her parents weren’t so narrow-minded when she was born… even though her genetic defect is an immature brain. Sick, sick, sick.

  • JoeMontana16

Please God forgive us for ever letting this happen. 1973, the year of infanticide.

    • badbadlibs

      In Jesus Name, Amen!

  • GiantM

Whatever happened to moral responsibility in this country!?

Oh don’t get me wrong, there ARE still many who believe in doing the right thing. The reality is the minority always seems to have a bigger voice.

  • no_kia

liberal fact vs. fiction. When these nutty liberals decree they believe in science that means junk science like global warming, eugenics, infanticide like they have in China and India.

  • TJinNJ

The Left = EVIL – This is the result of their God-less beliefs (communists)

  • lilium479

Aborting is neither pro or anti science. Abortion is a moral question not a scientific one.
    She is dangerous and ignorant.

  • FutureOnePercent

We don’t we just treat people like horses and take them out back and shoot them if they get sick? That will cure them right?

    God help us all.

  • This person and what she stands for is only one reason of many reasons, why the Democrat Party is known as The Party Of Death.
They destory everything they tounch one way or another, and still they aren’t satistfied, they must consum more and more like the insatiable appetite of a deadly bacteria.
Incurable diseases have nothing on the democrat parties well manifested record of death.
Just to name one who died at their hands, Terri Schiavo. lest we forget her.

    Tea Party Patriot
    Vote them all out 2012!

  • MiketheMarine

This woman is an idiot. Just two days ago she was complimenting Saudi Arabia on their work on women’s rights.

  • Birth defects have nothing to do with diseases. Quite the opposite actually. Did she flunk med school?

  • yhxqqsn

Must sacrifice the children to the god of science if we want to receive the god of science’s blessings.

  • ossnhughie

I have read many comments spot on, on this thread and this sounds like pure eugenics to me. Shall we ask this charlatan if she means “Lebensunwertes Leben” as the Nazi’s called it. “Life unworthy of life” was a key part of the Nazi regime program of purifying the human race. If this is progress I want no part of it. This woman and her ilk are nothing but barbarians hiding under a veil of modern science. Murder is not progress IT IS MURDER!

President Reagan said it best: “Ive noticed that everyone who is for abortion is already born.”

We must fight tooth and nail to keep these people at bay before they start slaughtering even more innocents.

  • sjmom

May God have mercy on her.

  • Brian Lasater

And what IF they can test a fetus in the future for gayness….still a good idea?

  • Naje13

This woman is so smart she doesn’t even have to think. Not your everyday smart, I mean like pro-science smart. Think about the people who could have been aborted by this nimrod.

    Stephen Hawking – ALS
    Howard Hughes – Tourettes
    Lou Gehrig – ALS
    John Nash – Schizophrenia
    Helen Keller – blindness/deafness
    Beethoven – deafness
    FDR – Polio
    Michael J. Fox – Parkinson’s
    Muhammed Ali – Parkinson’s
    Richard Pryor – MS
    Dwight Eisenhower – Crohn’s disease
    Bobby Fisher – suspected Autism

Lots of notable people have Autism. But I think this list proves that people who have problems (genetic or otherwise) can be safely discarded, without consequence.

  • Maureensay

Just another of the crazies from the world of NBC .Maybe the doctor should donate herself to the “proscience” cause so that we can figure out the brains (or lack of) of those who work over there!

  • Dan

well then …we know that Liberalism is a diseases and therefore we should put an end to all libs…and in the end …after all “I’m pro-science” and it IS… “a great way to prevent diseases.” ….SO ALL LIBS PLEASE REPORT TO THE NEAREST GAS CHAMBER WERE YOU CAN HELP SCIENCE AND BETTER THE WORLD…AFTER ALL “IN SCIENCE WE TRUST”

  • aelfheld

I’m pro-science, so I believe that [aborting genetically imperfect children] is a great way to prevent diseases.

Herr Doktor Josef Rudolf Mengele said the same thing.
